Honda Grom Sprocket and Clutch Upgrade

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Roland and I dive into a 14T front sprocket install and clutch upgrade installing 60% stiffer clutch springs and Chimera lifter plate. We explain some things we ran into that will help you should you choose to do this install, and I show a before and after demonstration in an attempt to show you whether or not these mods are worth the money. SIDENOTE: I’m not a stunter and don’t pretend to know how to lift the front tire well, I’m just trying to demonstrate the difference the clutch upgrade and 14T front sprocket makes.

    I bought a Kitaco clutch cover so while I was there, I installed a high flow oil pump, stiffer springs, spring plate. I don't wheelie my bike but am looking at installing a 14 tooth sprocket and new chain for more torgue. I installed a cam and flashed ECU. Between the cam and oil spinner delete, I lost a lot of low end and midrange torgue. I installed a Koso instrument cluster with the steady garage dash to clean it up. With the Koso cluster, I should be able to adjust the tire diameter to compensate for the 14t sprocket. Is this 14t sprocket going to hurt top end? I'm concerned where the rpms are going to be at going 55-58mph for prolonged rides.

  • @CTGromer

    @CTGromer

    3 жыл бұрын

    Man, lots of good mods there! I run the 14T to compensate for the lost low end. Yes, it does affect the top end, not by a whole lot, but if your focus is top speed, I might keep the 15T on the front.

    For about $70 you can snag a DRD speedometer calibrator form 12oclockLabs and fix the inaccurate speed reading. Mine was off by about 9% from the sprocket change and new tires. The speed being wrong isn’t a huge deal, but racking up more miles due to the indicated speed being high isn’t something I wanted.

  • @CTGromer

    @CTGromer

    4 жыл бұрын

    That's my biggest concern is the extra miles on the odometer long term. The mph reading doesnt bother me. Might be worth it for only $70, I appreciate the heads up!

  • @CTGromer

    @CTGromer

    3 жыл бұрын

    I guess it depends on your application, I think the 60% springs are good for most modded bikes, but from a pulling the clutch with your hand stand point, you'd probably be good with the 80% springs (which I didn't even know they made), the 60% springs full replacement doesn't make the clutch lever much harder to pull.

  • @CTGromer

    Man, I would if I still had one! But you're right, that would be a legit test! It would help, no doubt, but ideally you want more air/fuel to flow in AND out better. The stock airbox is super restrictive though, so it will help, just don;t know by how much.

    It also depends on how much you weigh. I weigh 143 but I wheelie my crf300l with ease from 1st-3rd gear. I did it on my buddys 2023 grom and I got it up in 2nd no problem. Maybe it’s the experience I have on wheelies and stunts but I think that how much you weigh is a big factor on if you should do stuff to your grom or not.

    HELLO! Found your channel while searching if a Grom is worth purchasing. On the surface it absolutely seems likely. Possibly do you know the best site/place to purchase one? In total, I would like to spend no more than 2500$. And truthfully even that seems out of reach because my health issues impair me socially, getting a job is hard. Hopefully i get this Census job cause if I do without a doubt i need and will get SOMETHING motorized. I'm 21 and have been dealing with health issues as a kid and depression is getting worse day by day.. one day when I was 19 while riding a MOTORIZED BIKE i had a blast...at just under 20 mph.... I just want to get something where I can be alone and ease my mind. Please, hoping you can help me out.

    Hey David, I really appreciate you sharing some of your personal life on here like this. It takes guts. I feel for you, I suffer from significant social anxiety, especially in business, and I'm in sales! Riding a motorcycle for me is better than any drug to ease the tension, decompress, destress and go on a solo adventure. Free of everyone and everything else. It's empowering and therapeutic! I really hope you get your census job as well. As far as a grom, you can absolutely get into a clean slightly used grom for $2,500 or less. I would check your local Facebook Marketplace. I've actually purchased all five motorcycles I've ever owned on there. I've heard LetitGO App and Craigslist can be good too, but I like Facebook most. Where are you from? If you'd like to talk more about it, add me on Instagram, and DM me: dsimon11.

    Those screws are steel not aluminum. If you snapped it you either have an inaccurate torque wrench or you had the torque wrench set wrong. 9 ft lb is not going to break a bolt like that.
