Oh, the days before over regulation. Honda made this 1500 V12 based on their 250 twin racing bike. Their only win was at Mexico City in 1966. This was the last race of the season. I do agree that we need atmospheric engines back with at least 8 cylinders, but that's so unlikely to happen. If anything, we could suggest to them to experiment with V8 or V10 hybrids. And a formula 1 with similar technology. I saw an interview with Lewis Hamilton the other day , when Alonso was demonstrating the Renault V10 which was built 30 years later in the 90’s. It did sound gorgeous. So formula one owners, maybe you should sponsor Honda to demonstrate that beautiful car around the circuits, with maybe Jenson Button driving, as he is definitely an anorak 😉.

A four stroke engine with a two stroke power band...awesome to say the least.

Did you ever drive an in- and outlet guided two stroke engine? Their power band isn't necessarily narrow. Striving for high specific power output will always result in a narrow power band, no matter if two or four stroke and culminates in a turbine.

I imagine the tooling to build such a small displacement V12 would be a real marvel. Any engineers out there care to chime in? Such a beautiful beast.

I shared a pit garage with one of them at a Donnington Park ACU test day about 15 years ago. Honda were shaking it down for some event or other. I had no idea what it was untill they fired it up and started revving the tits off it ... Holy mother of Jesus...what a way to sustain permanent hearing damage!

I saw one of these cars race at Watkins Glen in the mid 60s with, I believe, John Surtees driving. The sound was incredible but I'm pretty sure the car didn't finish e race.
