the few video's you have, will help me out a lot. I just 1) got my M-Endorsement 2) I just purchased a 2015 CTX7000n DCT version, w/ 1 mile on the gauge. Thank you for simple, and non-glamorized videos. Hope you make more...

Everyone over at the CTX700 forum who has reported in on initial oil change has had trouble getting the factory-installed filter off, but this is a one-time deal. It'll be easy after that following the owner's manual that states to turn it 1/4 turn past hand tight, which is not nearly as tight as from the factory. I bought one of those filter wrenches that look like channel locks with red, padded grips after I broke the first one that was guaranteed not to break. This wrench can be used for other things plus it gives lots of grip and lots of torque cause it's got a fairly-long handle and that oil filter didn't stand a chance using one of those. It took alot of squeeze and a lot of turning effort, but it helped me avoid the ole puncture-a-hole-in-the-filter trick, which I have done before and enjoyed watching. On a related note, everyone can absolutely go to your Honda automobile dealership or Autozone, OReillys, Pepboys, Autozone, etc., and pickup a Honda car filter and use this $5-$6 filter and feel at ease. Almost all Honda cars use this same filter that also is exactly like the MC filter except that the auto filter is slightly longer. This means only that it has more filter media in it and thus it is at least as good. There was a member over at the NC700X forum who compare tested both filters. Same retention pressure or whatever you call it and all parameters are exactly the same except for the length. I'm on my third one. I like to use Honda Genuine, and so I pickup up two at a time from the West Knoxville dealership for $5.99 a piece. Great video. Good stuff!

Thanks for making this. I just got a 2014 ctx700 that had been sitting for 2 years, with the factory filter on it. I am a new rider and have never changed the oil on anything before, but I needed to do this myself. Your struggle with the factory filter was the same as mine, and luckily I had watched your video so I knew I could stab it with a screwdriver!! The clutch filter was incredibly easy at least

Great video and lots of fun however you might want to check that the oil capacity is not 3 quarts and 6 oz but 3.6 quarts which is a little over 3 1/2 quarts.

A pipe wrench works to remove stuck oil filters. Had to use one on my car. The dealership service department overtightened it during its previous oil change. I was shocked at what you went through to remove the CTX700 oil filter.

To avoid further struggles with inadequate filter wrenches, just buy the filter with the 17mm nut welded on the end; then it's just a wrench that's needed - series HC204 either HiFlo or K&N or whatever all the same ref number.

I use the clamp / socket style filter wrench,, but I found that I had to put 2 layers of duct tape on the clamp pads to get it to grip the filter better. I also drilled a 3/4” hole in the front of the skid /rock pan, slip the filter wrench on, use a long extension & the ratchet from outside the skid pans

On that first cup style filter wrench was that the correct Metric size .....? The trick with those is to duck tape the filter to take up the slack fit so its tight on the filter and the screw driver is always the good old standby, another trick is WD40. great video keep it going

She did use a standard ratchet wrench after puncturing the filter and loosening it with the screwdriver. Shoulda done it from the start. When replacing the drain plug, she should have used a new sealing washer ! Did that get mentioned? In fact use a new one each time you change the oil. I keep several on hand.

Ok, just bought a 2016 CTX700 fully loaded with 2k miles on it. Yeah - deal of the century. That said, I have always been a large CC scooter person and this bike is kind of the best of both worlds but I am still a bit timid about doing things to it myself. Your vids help a lot, let me tell you! That said, I like the automatic shifting but it sounds clunky and the first 2-3 gears sound loud. Is that normal? Also, I love your vids because I actually do learn from them, however, I would love you to suggest oil change intervals, chain cleaning and lube intervals and how in God's name we get to that air filter. I read it's a mission and a half to access. Have you tried yet? If so, got a vid for it? I really like the bike a lot and want to do better at self-maintaining it. Repairs are just too costly these days for most of us...so thanks for being a super hero to fellows like me.

Maybe a little late, however you would have to slide the rear wheel backwards incrementally using the indicated marks on the swing arm. You will need to get the rear wheel off of the ground and i would suggest a torque wrench for retorquing the wheel again once the free play in the chain is within manufacture specifications, those specs can of course be found in the operating manual as well as on the swing arm of the particular bike. Take Care, AC

I just had to laugh out loud. As Maxwell Smart . . . do you remember who Maxwell Smart was? . . . would have said. "Ahhh yes, the old screwdriver through the oil filter trick!" I loved this video, and you're pretty darned good with a Hula Hoop. That's two videos now with you doing that? :D Last weekend I took my Basic Rider's Course, and in the middle of last week, I got my endorsement on my license. Over this weekend, I went to the local Motorsports dealer, who has a 2009 Yamaha FJR 1300 AE that I'd really like to own. However, being unemployed from February through September of this year, and under-employed for the previous two and a half years, has basically destroyed my credit rating. Kind of kiss the FJR goodbye. :( On the bright side, or maybe just a little less of the darker side, the dealer near my work (30 miles each way with a 45 minute ferry ride inbetween) has a 2014 Candy Red CTX700, new, one mile. :) I would love to have bag supports like your husband made for your CTX, but if I get the factory bags, I can order the inserts when I order my Cee Bailey windshield. Yup, you're the deciding factor on the Cee Bailey windshield, if I'm able to get the bike. Thank you for that, too. :D I will ask one question, which you may or may not know the answer to. Is the mounting hardware for the bags the same on the CTX700 as they are on the NC700X? Givi makes a very nice set of aluminum bags which I would prefer over the Honda bags, but they only list the NC700X as being able to use them. Thought maybe you might know. Please, keep up the good work, the great videos and I'll tell you, I really enjoy them.

+Gary C I own a 2014 Honda CTX 1300 Deluxe. The CTX 700 is the "baby brother" of the CTX 1300. I am working on a video of my first oil change on my bike at close to 10,000 miles. I have usually had the dealer do my oil changes until now, and will hopefully have it up soon on my channel. Depending on the length of the video, it can take a long time to produce and upload. If you would like to, in the meantime, check out my channel and see what I have been doing, and the places that I have gone on my motorcycle.

Always remove the filter first. If you can't remove it, then you can take it to a shop and let them worry about it. Also, use a K&N oil filter with the nut welded on it. Then you only need one wrench and don't have to bother with all the other crap.

I hate oil changes! I hate paying the shop 75 dollars even more. Unfortunately I have to disassemble my BMW 650 to change the filter--but I simplified the process by investing in an oil sump pump to empty the reservoir. Once I have the bike properly disassembled it's not so bad. Since I am looking at and drooling over the Honda this was helpful--and entertaining!!

@@colbrt The G650GS had 3 places to drain oil. Bottom plug, oil reservoir and you got a 1/2 cup when you replaced the filter. I sold it after 50K miles and bought the new F750GS. It seems easier and only change it about every 6500 miles! As it's a once a year deal I have it changed when the bike gets it's other servicing.

7:38. I"m sorry but I disagree about " not screwing it back in" to check the engine oil level. That's about as dumb as NOT inserting your engine oil dipsticks on your cars and pickup trucks all the way and then you end up adding alittle bit TOO MUCH engine oil..which can blow your seals over time. It's not worth having that level of brain far. ALWAYS insert that sucker 100% in..always. Better to be low on engine oil by a tiny tiny amount than to risk overfilling it as a result of an inaccurate reading.

Maybe try reading the manual to see what the manufacturer recommends. Gonna guess the team of Honda professional engineers know the proper way to check the oil, which on this bike is without screwing the cap in.
