@@ram64man I decided that I was going back to long-range touring. I have had 2 K1600’s before, so was very familiar with them. The luggage on the Honda was not big enough and the BMW also gave me a cruise control, which when sitting on motorways for a number of hours was a great benefit.

The reason the centre stand is an optional extra in the States is that they sell the two versions, basic and de-luxe. Only the de-luxe is sold in the UK. Basic does not have the audio system, heated grips, centre stand, TCS and ABS. Hope to see you on the CTX1300 forum. Cheers Dave (djrose007 on the forum, mines a white one by the way).

Mr Steve, A+ commentary on the CTX1300. I didn’t know this bike existed By chance, I came across a used CTX1300 at my local California dealer. I thought ADV bikes were comfortable with their upright riding position, but the CTX1300 Seat and forward pegs was incredibly more comfortable. Your review was spot on, at 6’1” I also experienced slightly inadequate windscreen protection at 70+ mph. I hope to buy this fine machine in lieu of a 1000-1200 cc ADV motorcycle.

Thank you for watching. I have had 3 Gold Wings, a 1200 and 2 x 1500's. They are big compared to the CTX. If you are going on holiday for 2 weeks, then get a Wing; however, for day trips or a few days away the CTX is great. But specify the touring pack. Otherwise you do not get the topbox and tall screen. The CTX is also considerably cheaper than a Wing. In the UK about £10,000 cheaper! And that's the price of another CB1100.

Hi Steven, just watched 3 of the series and returned to the first as you said the bike had ABS and traction. But your bike is not the Delux with the blacked out wheels and footrest panels. I could not find a comment on this....it maybe a regional variation, I am in Australia, the bike was only available in 2014 and only the Delux had ABS. A hard bike to find in Perth WA....but luckily found one for sale, I will test ride. They were apparently massively discounted before being unavailable....!

Thank you for watching. I do think the bike could benefit from an extra gear for motorway, 70 mph, cruising. This bike was made for one year to use up parts off the shelf. Honda simply used the gearbox they had in stock at the time. Having said that, it only has 5 gears and it seems fine when riding.

Hi. How do you find the power delivery on the CTX? I have always mainly had powerful bikes but last cruiser I had was a Harley V rod muscle with 120 BHP . I loved the cruiser aspect of the bike and would like another cruiser as I’m nearing 60. What’s it like at getting up to motorway speeds?

  • @StevenUpton14-18

Thank you for watching. I am not someone who red-lines engines.I tent to change up at just over 3k rpm. Sometime up to 4k. On that basis, it is very smooth acceleration as you go up though the gears. I would call the bike quick, not fast. With this style of riding I tent to get the best mpg out of it. The CTX regularly returns 60 mpg on A roads and 55 on motorways. Having said all that, if you wanted it to, I am sure it would be a lot faster if you revved it higher, perhaps to 6k or 7k. You would be up to 70 mph in a few seconds. For me, it a cruising tourer, not a sport tourer. It suits my style and I like it.

The CTX has the same engine and drive train as the Pan, but its lost about 20 bhp. Whilst the Pan is a sport tourer, I would class the CTX as a cruise tourer. You sit more upright and your feet are in front of you rather than beneath. I have never ridden a Pan, so I can't make the comparison. What I can say is that I like the CTX. Just taken it to Germany for two weeks (on a trailer) and did about 1800 miles on some of the best biking roads in Europe. First time I have been on it for 14 consecutive days. No problems and very comfortable.

The CTX has the engine and drive train from the Pan European. The gold Wing is a six cylinder 1800 cc, whilst the CTX is four cylinder, 1260 cc. GW has cruise control and adjustable air suspension. Its also quite a bit bigger and offers far more luggage space. You also get other stuff on the GW such as GPS, integrated sound system etc. You could say that the CTX is a smaller and cheaper little brother to the GW.

Thanks for watching. Whilst the mirrors are not ideal, I can see behind me, which is the object. By retuning the engine they have given it more torque at lower revs. It is a cruiser not a sport tourer. It suits my style of riding. I agree that if you want faster, get the Pan European. If you want to carry more luggage, get the Gold Wing. For cruising around in a relaxed style, sitting upright with no backache, the CTX does it for me.

  • @007djrose

I don't have a problem with the mirrors at all but I know it's a common complaint for shorter people although I'm only 5' 10". Some have just dropped the handlebars a little to overcome this and other have added after market mirrors to the bars which looks to be very easy to do. As to the short production run I think the CTX was more to do with a design concept for the 2018 Goldwings. The GL1800 without the armchair on the back looks very like the CTX, or the older F6B. The engine was developed from the ST1300 engine but modified cam, altered compression ratios, valve timing improvements, air intake and exhaust settings altered for low and mid range speeds giving better efficiency with combustion. So yes, it is the 'same' engine but much improved. ST1300 owners reckon there are pluses and minuses on both sides but the CTX is a more comfortable ride for long journeys.
