    I just pressed out the bearing and reused the pulley body. $12.50 for the bearing. Thanks for the videos- they have been quite helpful.

    Thanks for the video, the cracks are not a big deal unless pieces start falling off. There is a wear/stretch indicator on the tensioner. A small triangle points at a rectangle, if it's stretched too far the triangle will point outside that rectangle part of casting. But such a cheap and easy maintenance item, may as well do it at 100,000 or so and keep old one in with spare tire for emergency spare if regular one snapped due to some reason.

    FWIW on the tension assembly there is a little index pointer, and it points to a little range "rectangle" showing if the belt has stretched too much. as long as pointer is still in that range even with some minor cracking of ribs you should still be good. If there were areas of the ribs missing then I would do it for sure. The real strength is in the fiber woven and reinforced flat part of belt. But it's such a cheap easy repair no harm in doing it proactively.

    I noticed that there are two rectangles one higher than the other. Which of the two would indicate if the belt has stretched ?

  • @TheGerbsteve

    @TheGerbsteve

    I’ve had it for about 3 years.... I think that the idler tightened up somehow and wore out the belt. Plus being in cold and warm weather doesn’t help much either.

    Going to replace my belt when it arrives. Thanks for showing everything so clearly! This is a really helpfull video. I did order a cheap tool to help me out releasing the tensioner pulley. Looks that you removed some plastic parts.. did you need to remove any plastic covers and is it required to get the belt on there ?

    Is the Honda belt quieter? I noticed a kind of low toned cycling noise with the gates belt when I changed it a good while ago. The kind of noise only the driver of the vehicle would distinguish cuz my wife couldn’t notice it.

    This is super super easy compared to the non SI civics. I’ve seen people have to remove alternators, water pump pulleys, wheels, even remove motor mounts and raise then lower the engine. Sheesh

  • @TheGerbsteve

    I’d have to agree with you on that! On my 2001 civic, you need to remove a ton of crap. The hardest part about this is getting it back on because the belt and pulleys are sooo tight under there.

  • @BurkaLifter

    No, it's a spring loaded tensioner. if tensioner can move freely, it can't be too tight

    @@melvinjubay If it's outside the line, then I would assume the belt is stretched past it's recommended wear limit. The only way it can be out in the tight direction would be if a non-stock pully was on one of the accessories, or the wrong belt was previously put on. I would not sweat it if it's close, but it's such a simple and cheap thing to change. for $25 I would just put a new one on.

    @@jayc4283 nah mate I just replaced the belt. I replaced the belt and it was out of the line on the too tight side then I replaced the pulleys hoping it was the problem but it’s still the same. I really think it’s the belt but I couldn’t be bothered now , made 70k kms with it already.
