Nice looking bike but my question is: A drum front brake? Also why not go with an RC Engineering Valve Cover (has hold-down bolts to hold the rocker shafts)? It worked good on my 73 with an Action Fours 836cc kit. Really like your exhaust tone.
@ducatiman856
4 жыл бұрын
rayworx - thanks for your comments, very relevant as you have owned a similar bike. 1. Drum brake ? The 4 leading shoe setup in my opinion is at least as effective as the period HONDA disc & calliper system. It’s reliability and appearance is a bonus. 2. The RC cam cover with torque bolts is a great idea for very high compression, CC and higher revving SOHC’s. Not really a requirement for my engine, unless I take her on the track. I’ve not noticed any loss of torque to the cam cap bolts .. yet. I have seen it fitted to track / race bikes not street bikes as yet, worth considering though.

Absolutely beautiful bike. Do you have a thought on how much power it puts out? I'm trying to learn all I can about the Honda CB series, and so far I am in my infancy of knowledge on them. I just picked up a 1980 CB650 the other day, and plan to build my dream cafe racer out of it. Main problem is there is next to nothing in the way of performance parts I can find for it. This is a long shot, but do you know if the earlier SOHC CB750 cam would fit into the CB650? I'm sure it would have higher lift and maybe more duration as well, though it may be too long to fit as the engine is wider. Still, I feel that'd be my best shot at getting a "performance" cam for the CB650, short of designing and making a completely custom one. Any help or recommendations would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Hi Dan, Thanks for your kind comments. Re your CB650 challenge, I strongly suggest quizzing the collective on the SOHC forum, a font of knowledge for all SOHC’s. This is a link to a discussion about your bikes performance options. forums.sohc4.net/index.php?topic=169126.0 As far as my bikes HP output, currently putting out 86bhp, but I’m messing about with cabs at the mo. Good luck with your bike. forums.sohc4.net/index.php?topic=169126.0

Now that’s a fine buildt Honda. Absolutely fantastic. 👌 One question though, why did you route the hoses for the oilcooler that way instead from the filterbase as the most used way of doing that?
@ducatiman856
4 жыл бұрын
Kasper Kjærsgaard thanks for your comments. The oil hoses are routed to closely replicated the CR, I’m using the CR oil cooler. Also down to my taste, as you say “most people route from the filter”.
@ducatiman856

Kasper Kjærsgaard also, the longer the oil is out of the engine the cooler it remains.... less frothing also

Dave Morgan Thanks a lot for the reply. May I ask, where are the oil lines connected? At the return feed to oil tank or???
@ducatiman856

Kasper Kjærsgaard - the return simply routes via the oil cooler under the neck, before returning to the tank, hence the visible lines left and right of the engine.
