The best review of the CB500X handling there is on KZread! I love your descriptions of the feel and especially the why of the feel. Just what a noobie like me needs to hear. A real bonus is these are exactly the types of roads I take my bike on.

I think you have to live with a CB500X for awhile to appreciate what a good bike it is. In terms of quality, quality and cost its a good deal. I have one and i also have a Triumph T120. They are different bikes for different rides. I know that i am pleased with both. I keep wanting to do more and more miles on my 2019 CBX.

Better solution than bar risers is to change the pegs for 1.5cm lower ones, SwMotech Ion will do the job perfectly, I istalled them on my Strom 650, huge difference in overall comfort, clevet made not restricting the leaning angle.

I heard that cb500x is not so good on the highway, it struggles around 130kph. What do you think which one is better? I will use it 80%roads and 20% highway. Also my weight is 120kg.

I hope in the future when Honda decides to update their 500cc lineup they come up with 270 degree crank twins instead of the 180 currently in production. They've got the know-how from their flagship Africa Twin.

I have one, it is a great dual sport bike but if you want to do any off roading then you need to buy different tyres as the factory fitted are supposedly 80/20 which is a fair description. I have changed to Pirelli MT60s and they are way better, both on and off road.

9:09 to 9:19. But question...How tall are you? If you're a good 6 foot 2 inches or taller, ( aka 188 cm's or taller) well I can understand why you'd say it needs higher bar risers given your arms might be automatically angled downward more than sub 6 foot tall riders..even sitting down( such as on a typical sport bike) more than shorter riders riding this exact bike. Just changed my oil this evening. IF you own a cb500x 2019, the engine oil drain plug is 12mm.. It's located on the left side of the bike at the rear of the oil drain pan close to the side stand. --Owner's manual says 22 pound feet of torque ( aka 30 newton meters aka 30nm) to tighten it, and yes it's horizontally screwed into the oil drain pan. Part for Fram oil filter is ph6017a, Walmart sells them for under 7 bucks USD, I use gn4 10w-30sj which is supported by Honda per the manual. Cheers.

  • @premavilasa

I have CBR300R and believe Honda is better. More people seem to choose MT03, but that proves nothing. Honda has better brakes, way better suspension and is overall much more refined bike. MT03 has more power but if you need more power, go for the 500-650cc bikes. I've had my CBR for over 2 years now and now am on full license but will take my time before upgrading. It's great overall bike, plenty of power for anything, including freeways, unless you want to hoon on it. I also don't like MT03 cartoon/toy like look. Matter of personal taste.

I bought the cb a month ago. I have 800km more or less on road. Although it is a nice bike, I'm not sure I would recommend it. While riding through a national road with 120-130km\h, I got irritating vibrations on footpegs, seat and handles. After no more than 30 minutes of riding on that speed my hands got numb. However I am taking under consideration the fact that it is my very first bike and feel quite comfortable on it. Test ride it first and then decide.

If you are a very tall large rider the Versys will be awesome. It will also be a far better bike for long distance travel with far superior wind protection. Both bikes are agile but the Honda is much lighter and will be easier to handle in low speed situations. Throttle control will be easier to manage on the Honda for a new rider. If you are in Europe the Honda is unrestricted , free revving and more fun. The Versys will be restricted to meet the A2 standard. An unrestricted Versys is WAY more powerful. The Honda feels like a good 500. The Versys OTOH feels more like an 800cc in the midrange from 4000 to 8000. The thing is; bigger isn't always better. I had a V-Strom 1000 before I got my Honda 500. The thing was a beast, but I'm having more fun on the Honda because it's so much easier to ride and handle.

Haven’t had chance to ride a cb500 yet but they seem to be a bargain. I’ve ridden a versys 650 and am familiar with the motor from my er6. Offers good power and not too heavy, I’m 5ft 8 and the versys was manageable for me despite being quite tall. I’ve sat on the 500 and it felt similar maybe slightly taller but it was nice and light. If you’re thinking of going 2 up or being loaded up I’d probably go versys. Otherwise the cb is very good value especially the 2019 model

  • @MrBenHaynes

I want to love this bike, I really do. I can accommodate the light engine power (coming from a V-Strom 650) but the sound of the parallel twin is a deal breaker for me. Why oh why can't it have a 270 degree crank phase to sound like a v-twin. Surely it wouldn't have cost more? Guess I'll stick with the Strom or try a Yamaha Tenere 700 (at twice the price).

If you don't mind my 2c, Ive been cross shopping these two. It somewhat comes down to how much freeway you intend to crush. If you don't plan on much freeway the lighter, cheaper, spoke-wheeled kawi is probably better/easier off-road. Which isn't to say the 300 can't do freeways, it can, I put thousands of road trip miles on my ninja 300. However, If you are really going to rack up the freeway miles to get to where you are exploring the CB500x is going to do it easier as well as needing much less frequent engine servicing. Range and MPG better on Honda as well.

Cast wheels on an adventure bike? No thanks 😣 When Honda sell this with factory fitted spoked wheels, then they will instil confidence for green lane adventures and long weekends away. The ULTIMATE solution though would be for Honda to team up with Rally Raid in order to allow factory for RR stage 3 right from the Honda dealership. RR would have to gear up to almost Renthal sized production though to meet the production demand.

"The wheel is not spoked so they're still trying to do that in-between." ...and the alloy wheels are a perfect match for the application. Why would Honda put spoke wheels on a motorcycle that is targeted for road and unpaved roads...it's not a dual-purpose or enduro bike designed for difficult motocross trails. The stock rims will take serious abuse and all the bike can dish out in terms of an overall package. If you need spoke rims you also need the ground clearance and suspesnion to justify the need. You could spend $3000 on a Rally Raid conversion but at that point you may as well get the t700 or KTM 790.

I did take it as a sign to finally subscribe. I am finding the cb500x to be a bit of a sweet spot of a bike too. Big enough motor to handle freeway work easily, but light enough to not be intimidating off the pavement. I'm also reading that the service intervals are generous and the valves rarely need adjusting. Full economy is great and the range is close to 300 miles. Might very well get one when I give myself permission to own a 3rd motorcycle. Gotta give it a year or two 'till the used ones work their way onto the market anyways.
