Thanks for watching it. No KTM 125 Duke demo this year. FB Mondial? We don't have that in The Netherlands. Looks nice though! The engine is a four stroke PIaggio-Zongshen engine? Is it like Mash, completely made in China (white label) and marketed as if it is from France?

The bike is stock, but the 2 valves also don't help for top speed. The exhaust should be swapped from front to back and then it still would struggle more than 4 valve engines.

This is very interesting. So this means that at least in the 125cc displacement it doesn't matter much if a bike is naked or superport, 15 or 13hp, the top speed is around the same?

  • @MotoSnax

    @MotoSnax

    5 жыл бұрын

No. There is a clear difference between naked and supersport and 13 and 15hp and 2 valve and 4 valve engines. Supersports are a bit faster because of the fairing. 140km/h can be reached by those. Without fairing 135km/h is possible. With a lot of head wind in stormy weather, 110-115km/h should still be able to be reached on a 125cc, 11kW, 4 valve naked. That 132km/h I reached on the CB125R was pure luck, wind in my back and suction of other traffic making it easier to reach that speed. I never reached it again. In other words; the CB125R is really good outside of the highway, but on the highway there is a clear difference between that engine and a 11kW 4 valve engine. The CB125R lacks power on the highway and you must time when you want to overtake a vehicle. With the stronger 125's that is still the case, but you have more power and a higher cruising speed. In other words; Honda needs to come with a 4 valve 11kW 125. :)

Thank you very much for that informative reply. I was thinking of getting a motorcycle license, but after your gsxr125 video and you explanation, if it can cruise around 120km /h even with head wind I think it's enough if I have to go on the highway, not to mention less expenses on maintenance and gasoline.

I ride CBR 125 from 2008, so it is the same fuel injected engine with the same power, and up to 100 km/h it pulls really nice. Things change above that speed, where you lack power and accelerating takes a lot of time and effort. But it is really nice to cruise at 100-110 km/h. You ride on 6th gear with 7-8k RPM, engine doesn't vibrate a lot, and is pretty quiet.

drop 1 tooth on your front sprocket , you'll actually just gain on every aspect without even loosing max speed , the stock one is too big for this engine , just did it on mine and it make a noticable difference , you dont loose speed so easily when cruising on the 6th gear and you reach the rev limiter way easier especially uphill , and at the end you dont loose max speed because the stock demultiplication doesnt let you exploit the whole potential of the engine . its cheap and it work very well . People are scared to try it because they think they will lost 10km/h , but in reality the 4 stroke engine struggle so much to reach the power band with the stock one , this change actually just make you win performance on both side , acceleration AND top speed , and at the end you'll only loose maybe 1 or 2 km/h which is not even noticable compared to the gain. combine that with an exhaust if you can and you'll get a pretty decent 4 stroke 125 cc.

Hi you have probably already answered this comment, but there are a lot of comments, do you know how this bike compares to the gsx s125, cannot choose between the two. I only do a little bit of dual carriageway riding from time to time, mostly riding in and around London streets. I've gotten too fat for my trusty cbf125 which had 11hp new and probably about 10 now, and i'm about 16 stone, so i'm starting to lean in the direction of the more powerful Suzuki, but the Honda feels and looks more premium, choices choices lol. Anything you could add would be great, any sort of comparison, Gearbox smoothness? throttle response smoothness, w/e comes to mind.

The CB125R rides like a mature (bigger) bike. Really good bike to ride on. Downside is that it is not that fast on the freeway. The GSX-S125 rides like a moped with extra power. The plus side is that it is faster than the CB125R. You are correct that the Honda feels and looks more premium... both gearboxes are smooth, throttle responses about the same. If you don't ride freeways that much, go for the CB125R. If you are planning to take a lot of freeways on your daily route, go for the GSX-S125. The Suzuki engine has more power, but the Honda just rides more like a big bike. I would like to see the Suzuki engine in the Honda CB125R. That might make it the best naked A1 bike available.

Going to test ride the cb125r on sunday, see if it carries my 100kg self with ease or not. A lot of extra cost on insurance and fuel. And whenever I get road rage I'll go too fast because the engine will allow it. These are the reasons I don't ride bigger than 125. If I'm honest my ideal bike would have about 20bhp. But yeah I think I get what you mean about the differences between the Suzuki and the Honda. Up till 2020, Yes. Yamaha is better than Honda. But for 2021 Honda has changed the CB125R engine. Two extra valves and more power. So I wonder how fast it will be. I won't be testing it as Honda The Netherlands / Belgium over here won't lend me any motorcycles anymore. Honda not doing so well over here so they had to cut back on demo bikes and people borrowing their motorcycles. Stupid move if you ask me because now you have less coverage and they were doing not so well in the first place. Honda motorcycles are really good motorcycles, but more time for me to give other brands some audience. :) If I will be riding Honda bikes on this channel in the future, they come from dealerships.

Euro learner laws really should allow a few more BHP . I had this Honda, yes they could have got it to 14.7 BHP instead of 13.1 BHP, but that wouldn't have made too much difference. I think learner bikes should be allowed about 20 BHP maybe with an electronically limited top speed of about 75MPH for the UK , 130 Km/H for the rest of Europe. Then the 70MPH UK roads or 120 Km/H European roads become possible to safely use. The problem I found was getting up to 70MPH , it took ages. Over taking slow lorries was dangerous, not enough power to get past with the draft off the lorries.

The Yamaha and MT-125 and this bike have exactly the same power to weight ratio of 0.1hp per kg. That is the maximum allowed in Europe for a 125cc. The Honda is lighter hence the maximum power the engine can produce is 13hp.The issue with this bike is top gear is taller than the Yamaha. It's probably got the same gear ratios in the box as the 300cc with different sprockets to save costs. As others have said change the sockets if you want to hit the the maximum of 75mph for a euro 4 125. The Honda's handling is much more pleasing. The MT series track is very short so the handling is pretty unstable. I think the MT09 is actually dangerous.

The CB125R rides as a mature, bigger, bike. One of the best, maybe the best 125cc out there if you only take a look at how it rides. But the engine also has only got 2 valves, the others have 4 valves. I think that is also important on high speed rides. But it can also have to do with gear ratio. Not sure if it is the same as the 300. It would be bad if Honda did not change that. On the other hand, you are able to get on the freeway... for urban rides the CB125R is one of the best out there for the A1 license. I wonder how the Kawasaki Z125 will ride.

This is quite funny, mine on a sunny day holds 125km/h easy on the highway on 10k rpm. But i usally cruise at that speed. i realised that it kinda has a barrier on 10k rpm like it won't go further. But if you get in a tunnel it just snaps and goes up to 150 km/h no problem, and start floating on the valves at around 11500-12000 rpm. Now i love the bike and all since it's comfortable and easy to ride. Even tho it does have a let down on the 13hp it still pulls away from the Yamaha YZF and MT. probably because of it's litghtness. I realised if you gonna go on the highway just go as far as you can in 5th gear (around 110 km/h) and shift into 6th. and you'll pull like crazy. 6th gear has a bigger space between it with 5th than 5th has with 4th and 4th has with 3rd. So you gotta give it that extra push. BTW if you know about some nice lowkey exhaust on the bike hmu. still looking for one going under the bike.

So i tried first outside a tunnel (wind and other stuff) max i got it too was around 137 km/h. then i tried in a short tunnel (no wind) it shot up to 150km/h no problem. But when i bought the bike i was babying it until the engine was breaket in. so when i got above 500km i started giving some full throttle pulls do get thos high RPM's into the system. But the thing is. The CBR 2018 has a problem with the chain. So if you let it be loose (more than 3 cm) you can really feel that the bikes slows down and has some problems with gearing. But if you reguarly pump air into the tires and get the chain tight. You will have a easy time on the highway and it will be able to compete on the highway. I suggest buying O-ring chain, so you don't have to tighten it every other week or so. and have it more like 1 month. Do these things and put YZF/MT and see how you will pull away from them with only 13 hp

Oh and yeah, Leovince are making exhaust for them now. Dyno charts says it will have a more uplift on the high RPM's with power. so that will probably help achieve top speed as well

Yup it is not that powerful on the highway. But on the urban roads it is a great bike and feels like a bigger bike. The CB125R is in my opinion the most mature 125cc bike. It just lacks power on the highway.

In the 132 km/h part I was leaning forward (but still had to keep the camera facing the speedometer). Not sure if you can really reach 140 km/h on a naked bike. Most of the times up to 135km/h or so is possible.

For a beginners bike it is good but the top speed on the freeway varies, so I would be careful on the freeway.
