Dude, great "real world" long term review using actual miles on the bike and objective measuring. Really enjoyed it and now going to watch your other vids on this bike. I´m actually cruising around the CB 1000 R, thinking about to get me one. Because I´ve looked around, I´ve learned some about it and must say, that all additions you made to it, would be on my list as well. Thx for sharing.

found this really useful, I was considering getting one of these, but I think after watching this and the type of riding I regularly do I should look for something more comfortable on the shoulders and probably steer more towards an adventure bike for comfort as I have a bad back. thanks for the good and honest review.

Glad you found it useful. Sorry to hear that my review might have steered you away from it - but yeah, I think if you are looking to do long touring rides, you might find this bike to get a bit uncomfortable at the 250-300 mile mark for sure. It's a great bike though. Good luck!

Thanks for the kind words! Yeah, inventories are actually pretty scarce for many bikes in the US right now. My CB1000R is a 2018 and I am probably going to put it up for sale before the end of the year - I primarily ride my Tenere 700 now and just really enjoy ADV riding much more than just shredding on the Asphalt. But the Beezer has been an amazing bike and I have had some awesome rides with it!

Can't really go wrong with R&G parts 🙌 The new plate holder looks really nice. The seat was the one uncomfortable part of my old CBR... It hurt after an hour of riding. Great video!!

I stocked up on a lot of quality condiments for it 🙂 6 quarts of Castrol Actevo 10W30 engine oil for the first 3000 miles, 8 gallons of Motul 7100 4T ester 10W40, Engine ice coolant, K&N 204 oil filters, Motul RBF600 brake fluid, ASV brake/clutch levers, Lightech & Evotech accessories, Pyramid fender extenders, Puig heritage windshield & Footpegs. What a nice and straight forward review! You sound alot like me when it comes to maintaining the bike, your cb is my next bike in line and I can say that I'll be doing the exact mods as you did except the windshield. I have seen the video with the wrap around the exhaust, did you saw the fender extenders? In my opinion that would be better as it stops water going all over the engine aswell. Cheers and waiting for the next great video!

Thanks for sharing your experience. The CB 1000 R might be my next bike and this is why this video was very useful for me. Regarding the windshield, the bike looks really good and the purists should know that Kawa z 900 rs (my other option -::))) has a stock windshield on the Cafe version and it still looks very classic. Good job!

Its a honda, you wont have any major issues. I have a 2004 cbr1000 with 40k miles. Ive beat the piss out of that bike since 2005 and it wont die. My speed triple on the other hand is only 5 yrs old and has been a pain in my ass.

I’m going to buy a brand new black edition but I’m going to hold onto my 2022 cb 500F. I’ll keep that for the small country roads. It’s a very underrated motorcycle. I guarantee I can keep up with any big bikes in the twistys.

I think the CB1000R was HUGELY underrated. Mine was an absolute rocket. I would routinely pass R-1s and GiXXers on it and they would always do a double take to see what I was riding - lol. Total sleeping beastie.

Fair comments. The original exhaust is very high quality for sure - I just felt it blocked a lot of the single sided swingarm and it is super heavy! There are a lot of different ways that you can set up this bike - which is one of its great qualities. Cheers and thanks for subscribing!

Love the mods and great review. Question, did you get more vibrations at the bars when the mirrors where installed? I want to add the same mirrors but I’m concerned about having to remove the internal and outer bar weights.

Thanks for watching and commenting. The CRG mirrors have worked great and not vibrate at all. I Have also tried other bar end mirrors by Rizoma and they vibrated terribly.

Anyone fitted a 200 rear on these bikes? Wonder if It will affect the TC system..

I’m hoping for this spring to get mine.. sold my 919 a couple years back, bought it new and put 41k on it.

That Akra can looks way better than the stock muffler. I feel the real advantage to going with a full system on the 1000R is weight. It's a heavy bike from the factory, so you really feel the difference getting rid of the big cat and can.

Yes, the stock exhaust is a HUGE chunk of metal for sure. I think if you are committed to the entire process of removing it and tuning it, than yeah - do it up. I felt good just replacing the exhaust can (which is a big chunk of weight by itself).

Highly considering this as my next bike, really appreciate the videos (yea I went back and watched the others as well). My biggest concern is the fuel. I commute about 110 miles twice a week. Sounds like the bike gets around 30-35mpg? Mostly about 60% is highway riding, with the other 40% being in the city. Any other info would greatly appreciated. Also your fender mod and slip on can look phenomenal!

Thanks for the feedback! Yeah, unfortunately, it's a thirsty beast. And that's correct, I generally get about 35-38 mpg. As far as ergos and control, I think it's a great commuter, but yeah, it likes it's gas for sure! It's a great bike, I don't think you would regret buying it - I love mine.

Thanks for the kind words and the great question. Truthfully? I rode (post plate hugger removal) in a heavy rain storm and the only difference I noticed was a bit more muck build up on the back of my license plate - I got nothing more noticeable than usual on my backpack or seat area. I am very happy with the R&G tail tidy both in looks and in functionality. Safe riding!

Hi, can you tell me what setting you used for the chain tension. The manual says 40-50mm of play for the chain. But I can't measure that because the chain comes on the swing arm. Thank you

Honestly, I used the owner's manual as a guide. But I also just sort of "eyeball" it by feel. I try to make sure the chain as some slack in it, but not enough to where I can lift it off of a whole tooth on the rear sprocket. Remember, the Single sided swing arm needs a lot of play, and the chain will touch the under side of the swing arm still when correctly tensioned (why there is a chain guide there). I feel it's better that the chain have a bit too much slack than be too tight - a tight chain will wear out both the front sprocket and shaft and the rear sprocket much too fast. I have 13,500 miles on the OEM chain and it has very little observable wear on it - neither do my sprockets. Lube them every 300 miles and I don't keep my chain super snug. No problems with any of those parts.

Thanks for making this video. I own 2 CBR1000RR and I'm seriously looking into getting a more upright bike for longer distances. In your vid, I noticed that you were able to sit the rear wheel on a Pit-bull stand. How did you set it up since the rear wheel has only a single swing-arm?

The CBR1000RR is an amazing bike, so I think you will love what Honda did with this Naked. Great question! I use a product on the rear axel made by R&G called a rear wheel "spindle bobbin". Its rear bobbins that go through the rear axel and allow you to use a regular paddock stand. Thanks for watching and commenting.

I am not sure if I have asked before but do CRG ship to the UK and what did you have to do to get them to attach to the standard CB1000R bars i.e. there are bar ends which have weights in the bar itself and also the removal of the original mirrors what did you do ?

Well, I had the CRG mirrors installed at the dealership when I bought the bike, however I have take them off and inspected them. Amazingly, the work really well without bar weights. The mirrors are fairly heavy and they do not vibrate at all. I am not sure if they ship to the UK or not, but I would be surprised if they didn't.

are you using stock handlebars? I just got one but I was thinking about getting some a tad bit wider alleviate a bit of pain in my right wrist.

Yes, mine are the stock bars and I agree, they are a bit narrow, especially when using bar end mirrors.

Only complaint about mine... needs some soul from the exhaust, looking at a slip on arrow sc or akra soon. Hope it pops a little more after

Thanks for commenting! Honestly, these days I ride my T7 mostly - the CB1000 has basically been resting quietly in the garage at about 13,400 miles. Honestly? It looks brand new. I maintain it and run it periodically, but it's held up well. There is no real paint behind the front wheel, however the exhaust header does indeed take a gravel beating from the front tire. I have kept it at bay with regular metal polishing and elbow grease. ;) It's a great bike for sure.

How do you like the puig windscreen at high speed? Does it make any difference in wind? I love the way it looks but I’m worried there won’t be much actual Functionality. Puig makes another that’s a little taller but I don’t think it looks as nice

Excellent question/comment. The screen I put on definitely cuts some of the wind buffeting in the chest area, but yeah - you still get a nice blast in your visor/forehead area - especially on faster roads. I actually had the "number plate" style wind screen on for a bit and yeah, that did nothing at all. This one at least deflects the chest blast, deflects some of the bugs and keeps my display and bar devices shielded from rain.

140 miles off a tank isn't very good at all !! I never would have guessed. It looks like a fun commuter bike, though, or a blast at the track. :) I think for an adventure bike I'd choose a Honda 250 dirt bike with highway speed sprockets. Awesome on gas, plenty of flickability, and super reliable. I've seen long epic adventures on them, and they seem to be the easier choice than say, an African Twin or bikes in that size/weight.

Yeah, the gas mileage sucks - I can push it to 150 miles, but I generally won't allow my gas light to come on before I fill up. I am looking at a couple of ADV bikes now and hoping to maybe get one before November - we'll see!

They are spindle bobbins and as far as I know (Check with R&G), yes, they are designed to be left in all the time. They have a stainless rod that slides through the rear axle and each bobbin is held on by a Nyloc nut. I love them - fantastic product.

Hey last question about those sliders, I'm just getting around to installing them did you tighten them all the way? I keep getting hung up on the fact I'm worried that they won't spin freely. So I have two 10 mm wrenches and I'm afraid to tighten it all the way

@@miller98lsc Yep, I crank them up! They should use Nyloc bolts that keep them locked down. I periodically tighten mine down and I have had no issues at all with them interfering with the normal motion of the rear wheel and sprocket.

Get the cb500x 2019 and 2020 models have bigger front wheel, and good mpg for adventure touring bikes plus a small turning radius makes it great bike.

@@tomyboumboum9822 Honestly? I think you would LOVE the CB1000R and I think you would find it very easy to ride. Standard mode is super smooth and super well behaved. Does it have power? Oh YES it does, but it is that smooth, linear Honda power that will feel familiar to you immediately. My bigger concern for you coming from the 500X is ergonomics - the 1000R has zero wind protection (while the reviews I have read on the 500x have said it is a really comfortable bike to ride with nice wind protection). So that might be a consideration - but yes- I think you could move easily into the 1000R. (I moved up to it from the CB500F).

You can do it sure, but I feel it was WAY easier taking the rear wheel off. Either way, Honda needs to make it easier to remove.

when you change to Alcantara Seat. Did the Seat Height change?

Slightly - I would say it raised the seat height by 15-20 mm.

Hey man, I bought the same tailbag you have and I literally cannot make the seat clip back in without applying an unnecessary amount of pressure. Is there a specific way you installed the straps? Thanks

So you are saying that once you lay in the straps, you cannot get the Pillion seat to snap down into the lock? So what I do is this: I take my Pillion seat off. I lay the straps (clips point up) across the Pillion storage area. I put the Pillion seat on top (just lined up) then I make sure I can slide each strap freely. Once they slide freely, I snap the pillion seat down into the lock. Then I strap on the bag and adjust the tightness. I honestly have never had an issue and its worked great for me for 3 seasons - sorry to hear you are having difficulty with it.

Oh ok. I've been trying to tighten the bag to the seat before snapping the seat into place. I think it's the bulkiness of the loops that are obstructing the seat from snapping down. Once you tighten where are you putting the excess strap? I was trying to make it as clean as possible and hide everything under the seat.

@@SkepticalShrimp Yeah, dude, don't do that. Agreed - the straps are really long. On my first time mounting (the way I described) once I tightened the bag down, I trimmed (and singed) just a bit of the excess length off the straps, then I rolled and tucked them into the elastic loop holders on the ends of the straps. They have never unraveled on me on a ride.

Yeah, I might be. I still love riding it, I just think I wanna try more ADV type riding going forward.

My only problem is the problem all litre bikes have... They're too fast for the street. I can't even hear the high range without breaking the speed limit so much that I'd lose my license. If the cb650r wasn't restricted to 35kW (in Australia), I'd have bought it instead.

You make a valid point. In the case of the CB1000R, I will say that Honda did an excellent job of tuning the engine "down" for the street. It has a very wide, smooth powerband - so yeah, you won't be able to get any MotoGP screams on the street, but it growls nicely from 2nd to 3rd when you get on it a bit on the back roads. ;)

If you remove the cat will make you bike run and sound better plus bit better fuel per gallon plus bar riser will help the shoulders .... As for adventure bikes try loads i went bmw R1250GS ride all day 200 mile range Great vid tho good luck with the adventure pick lol

Thanks for the info! Agreed on all points, I just do not think it is worth it to me (personally) to go through the expense of a full exhaust install and the need to have it re-tuned - I am happy with how it performs stock.

Mustad bikes in Australia do a more sleek closer hugging tail tidy that shits on the one shown.

Meh, the difference is minimal, let's be real and not a Mustard fan boy. Plus, I'd rather have the R&G one that is solid and well made and delivered in 3 days than the Mustard one that I paid full price for and never received. I never experienced that on mine, sorry. It's suspension allowed it to go into corners like it was on rails and the front forks were fully adjustable Showas no different than what is on most high end sports bikes. Sounds more like rider mistakes to me. Cheers.
