Honda (Acura) NSX 2017 review: Hero vs Legend | Head2Head

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

The new Honda NSX hybrid supercar has its work cut out if it’s to live up to its predecessor’s barnstorming reputation. The original NSX supercar was designed to give V8-powered Ferraris of the ‘90s a damn good thrashing - not only did its 3.0-litre VTEC-equipped V6 boast an all-aluminium construction, but so did its Ayrton Senna-developed chassis. Mat jumps behind the wheel of the brand-new NSX to see if modern hybrid technology can make it just as exciting as one of the 20th century’s greatest sports cars.

    The "Cheap Plastic" is actually interwoven aluminum carried into the car from the chassis. It actually adds rigidity. There are cupholders in the car, they mount into a slot on the passenger side.

    Old school car enthusiasts are not always keen on hybrid tech even if it's a better performing car especially if it sacrifices exhaust noise and in some ways feel very different in driving experience. Your entire life growing up noisier and bigger is better and you dream of being to be able to afford big dramatic sounding v12 one day but now the standards are shifting so it can feel disappointing. That and it's still also a Honda, a very expensive honda. I say this as someone who likes the nsx

    Good job Mat. It's good to see a positive review for this car. I got kind of tired hearing so many fussy and completely anal car reviewers knocking it for not being perfect. This is a brand new car, coming from a team that had the nuts to rethink and redesign the the drive train midstream, enduring the criticism for not getting it out when it was first anticipated to be released. They can always refine the car later, but they should be congratulated for building a brand new platform they cared enough to get right, no matter what.

    What are you talking about. Considering this has decimated the likes of the Pagani, Bugatti and tied with the Viper ACR around Thermal the NSX has tied if not competed with literally everything in it's class. It was even a second faster than the 675LT around Thermal that commands a 400k price tag...

    The new NSX is just too heavy for a supercar. On the other hand the old NSX is purely a driving machine. They are totally two different cars with no relationship in my mind. I think the Honda engineers should have a look on how the new MX5 is made with similar concepts from the old ones. Sometimes revolution is just not as good as evolution.

  • @skarpheinnsmundsson9741

    @skarpheinnsmundsson9741

    the gtr is heavier and r8v10plus is just 150lbs lighter so it´s right in the mix with the class, and the old NSX wasn´t just a pure driving machine it was built on a similar concept as the new one just it was built 25years ago, it was loaded with tech for that era and so is the new one just tech has come along way in those 25years... they have very much in common from a engineering standpoint but are seperated by a quarter of a century. And one thing to add is that they don´t have the same name but just the acronym NSX is the same, old one is New Sportscar eXperimental but new one is New Sports eXperience and according to all the reviews the new one fits that name perfectly.

    Nice review but with a few errors. The original NSX has a rev limiter set at 8000 rpm, not 7500. Only the NSX Automatic which had 252 Hp had it set at 7500 rpm and that's not the NSX you would want. During it's 15 year lifespan, the NSX was evolving constantly, although most of the changes are underneath. I happen to own a very good '98 NSX to which I've added a lot of modifications to keep the up to date performance wise and it still is a absolutely fun and amazing car to drive. I have been in the new NSX (one of the pre-production models) on the Spa track in Belgium and the new NSX feels amazing. Honda did want to just build another supercar like a R8 or Huracan or 570S, but do something new and they did. Simply put, with the new NSX, Honda has built a kind of Porsche 918 for a fraction of the price and then still has something new to add. It is basically the example of what future supercar will be like.

    Gee man, I wonder what else had an analogue driving experience back then. Oh wait! It’s EVERY SINGLE SUPERCAR! They don’t have it anymore, but you don’t hear people complaining about how the 458 isn’t analogue enough! You guys don’t even understand the point of the nsx. It was never a fun little sports car. It was a actual supercar, and so is the new one.

    The new NSX proves that Honda/Acura CAN indeed make a sportscar, but idk why they choose not to make more and instead hide the damn exhausts.

    I like your videos matt but i dont agree with your views on this car the old car was light fun and simple this car has no lineage to show its complicated heavy and unnatural quite the opposite of what the old nsx stood for.

    The problem with the new NSX is that the old one offered supercar performance at a much lower price, the new one is pretty much as expensive as Porsches, R8's, Ferrari's, Mclarens, etc. And it's probably not as good.

    the new one sits about the same place compared to others as the old one did just right in the middle price wise and cheaper then all you mentioned. And your probably not as good means jack shit as no real comparision has been done compared to it´s rivals but what we have seen seems to indicate that it´s just as good as most but offers far more tech so it´s price can be considered a bargain for it´s class. There is no problem with the new NSX other then peoples constant badge snobbery around it´s price and whining about it´s tech but for those who have an open mind will see how good it really is and will enjoy it for what it is.

    Who are the potential buyers of the new NSX? Honda tuners I talked to in Japan in May said customers will not get the new NSX because it will be too expensive. The tuners will not get any business either. Customers will rather refresh their old S2000 with new parts and pay 20 000 USD for a new K-tech (insert different company) built engine than buy a new NSX. The 1. gen NSX was 60 000 USD in 1990 and competition was 110 000 USD + (911 and Ferrari). Average household in the US was 55 000 USD in 1990 and is the same today. Why would and potential customers pay 156 000 USD for a Honda (with no NSX legacy the last 10 years) when they can get a 911 GT3 RS for the same performance, more prestige and price incl. better resale value? What will Honda link the new halo car to in branding and marketing? They have one "performance model" at the moment (UK built Type R) and maybe the S660 in Japan, but that is hardly a sports car. First gen NSX had F1 victories, Senna, CRX, Prelude, Civic SIR and the Integra.

    Wade H it was around 60k at first but the price grew to around 90 at the end of its production in 2005 and from then to now the price would have grown some 20-30k but considering how much more powerful and more equipped this one is compared to the old one the price difference is very minimal.
