You're one hardworking mechanic with humor. Bless you man.
I feel your pain. I used to have to do this years ago myself. Now, with my Milwaukee 2767 and the Lisle weighted socket Honda crankshaft bolts have no other choice but to listen to me. I am now the boss, not the bolt. Plus, looking back, this was a great way to get hurt and no bolt is worth that. The good news is that the new Milwaukee 2967 hits even harder than the impact that I have.
Nice job getting it to break free. I will use a 1/2" Milwaukee Fuel impact with the Lisle Honda crank socket, makes easy work of them.

Big Dog50001 Automotive I used a generic lisle 19mm crank bolt socket from amazon and the big dog Kobalt 24v impact with 650 ft lbs. it did not break away on the first pull of the trigger. But the second pull was like money. Zip zip off she came. I was so excited. You would think I was having a kid or something. It was a good day. Haha.

Most realistic "day in the life" vid of how it is to be a mechanic/fixing things. Congrats on getting it loose. It's funny, I was just saying to myself, "get a jack stand" and then you did. Well done!
I had to do my Wifes 2007 Accord. Broke an extension, finally tried the bump start trick. Worked like a charm.

Good stuff
I just a DIYer but before I bought that Honda socket by Lisle I used a setup similar to the one in the video to remove Honda crank bolts. There were minor differences in the way I set mine up but it worked just the same. Although I now have the special Honda socket to remove the crank bolt, I still use the old setup for install torque.
Just wanted to let you know that your video helped us get our crank bolt out. We did exactly what you did. Thank you.
This looks identical to the set up I used when I did my 90 crx timing belt. We ended up splitting my 19mm socket wide open. I feel you man!
I really appreciate this video man! I was borrowing all kinds impacts and shit wouldn’t come off. You reminded me that all you need sometimes is just ingenuity and muscle grease. Bolt is off now! Was also laughing my ass off at your struggles cause I felt your pain😂 great video bro!
Thank you so much for your video. You saved my day. I am working on my wifes honda pilot. I went out and bought the special socket and the crank shaft holding tool. My impacts wouldn't do it so I spent 300 on a high torque battery powered one and still could not get it off. I used your jack stand extension and cheater bar method. Bam it broke loose. You are the best! Thanks!
Brother you deserve two thumbs up. A great example of adapt and overcome.
I use a 1 inch impact on those. You also get a little bit of flex in the extension. Another way you can do it is by heating the washer up a little bit.
One of the reasons that Eric the Car Guy had an easier time removing crank bolt is that he did not have a breaker bar on the Honda tool. He has a heavy pipe on his. Breaker bars are like a heavy spring and they flex so you don't break bolts as easily. So, if you use an impact gun with a breaker bar it absorbs the force of the impact gun. When you use two breaker bars at the same time you are putting half the torque on bolt with twice the effort.

"Alright, I'mma raise the car right now" Engine falls out.
Man, I've watched several videos on how to remove one of these bolts and tried everything to no avail. So thank you for this video.
I had a Rover 827 (aka a Sterling across the pond). That ran a C27A engine, had exactly the same problem with the pulley bolt. It defeated two good quality air impact guns and I couldn't bump the starter as it had lunched its timing belt. My last resort was my 12v Liftmaster wheelgun I keep in the car for the wife to use if she gets a puncture, £70GBP from Amazon. It got it first go. I couldn't believe it. They work in a bit of an odd way because the motor spins up inside the gun before engaging drive then it engages and whacks the bolt. A good addition to the toolbox for DIY'ers for sure.

@@leonardtrump9155 hi, I've had a look through Amazon and eBay for you and can't find the exact brand and model BUT I've found one that looks externally identical but without the digital torque readout and Torque programming setting on it. Here is the link: smile.amazon.co.uk/Clarke-CIR13C-Impact-Wrench-Kit/dp/B07MW7JMCT/ref=mp_s_a_1_25?dchild=1&keywords=12v+impact+gun&qid=1586853963&sr=8-25 In long term use of this tool I've found that they have one minor weak spot, there is a MosFet on the PCB and due to vibration in ordinary use it breaks it's legs occasionally and the gun stops functioning. An easy fix with a dab of solder and you're on your way again. Also, when using this tool, use the included battery terminal to cigar lighter adapter to plug it in as your car's internal wiring/fuses may not appreciate being stressed out trying to run this tool. Remember that these guns DO NOT work like conventional impact guns, when you pull the trigger the internal motor first spins up to speed (so you need to keep holding the trigger down) then when it has achieved it's desired speed, it flicks out an internal clutch to engage the drive to the socket on your wheel nut/lugnut/bloody big stuck nut. This "BANGS" through your stuck nut/bolt and creates the impact needed to undo it. Hope this helps and good luck.
I just used the same Nitrocat 1250K that you said didn't work to zip off my 2006 acura tl crank bolt yesterday like butter. I also used a Lisle 19mm crank socket(thicker) instead of a regular socket. I just have a 33 gal compressor at home and cranked up the tool regulator to about 140 psi and the aircat gun cracked open the crank bolt with about 4-5 bursts of the trigger.

Wilee Coyote great quote. I like it. I grew up with my dad saying “leverage is your friend.”
I appreciate the enthusiasm in this video. However I found that using a 1" impact took the bolt right off without having to hold the outer ring. I then took a spanner wrench and adjusted the harmonic balancer back to TDC. I know a lot of people don't have a 1" impact but it is definitely a time saver on this job.
You work like I did when I was a hgv fitter.well thought out it’s all about getting your angles right to get the max torque. You made it enjoyable to watch. Good luck to you .
Took me less then a half hour to take off the power steering pump, belt, upper timing covers, wiring harness going to passenger side, the mount, but this bolts been kicking my ass. I like the Jack stand method that’s a good way to prevent coming off/slipping plus it applies more torque when your straight. Good job
hi I just wanted to help by saying that lisle makes a power socket as well as ingersoll rand in different sizes for this application. lisle and ir have a special 19mm impact socket for about 20 bucks that you use with your air impact wrench and it removes it with in seconds

You still need an impact gun putting out > 600 ft-lbs torque even with that socket. It helps but it won't make a little 18V impact suddenly a crusher. I know because I tried.
I took it off with a 1/2 breaker 19 socket and the pulley holder tool on another breaker. I put tension on the socket and hit the bar with a dead blow plastic hammer to simulate the sudden impact from an engine crank.
Unreal. I'm in this exact situation right now. Just sheared the end off my 1/2" extension bar. Not sure I'll ever get it off. Edit: replaced it with an impact bar and used your jackstand technique and finally got it. Whew. Three hours of my life I won't get back though.
Use the starter as the power, worked for me!!
I'm usually good at these, got stuck on one today. The jack stand was an awesome idea, got mine to bust loose. Thanks man.
I thought I had my air gun turned up high, I cranked it up to 100 psi and it still sucked. Ok I made an inline air gauge with one end in the air line and one end in the gun. I pulled the trigger and got 75 psi LOL . My air line was too long and I was using a 3/8 hose. I had to crank my pressure up to 140 to get 90 psi at the gun while running the gun. I was only looking at the static pressure at the hose end. Not sure if this applies but worth a check.
I was about to do a timing belt job on my 2002 honda accord 2.3l, and I got stuck at the bolt. that stupid bolt bent my extension out of shape, and I gave up. I need better quality tools. I'll get a really long 1/2" drive ratchet without a flex head like you got. I have a steel pipe, but I think I'll need a longer one. the cheater bar for my floor jack seems like alluminum, so I wouldn't want to use that, probably.
I too ran into the "infamous" super-hyper-tight crankshaft bolt on an Acura integra, never did get it off. Has anyone tried a Torque multipler? There are torque multipliers on the market that can output 4275 ft lbs.....truckers use them all the time to take off stuck lugnuts on tires, with little effort. Look up torque multipliers on KZread and you'll find them boys remove high torque, over tightened, rusted up, stuck lugnuts with minimal effort.
Wow patients. Using force with force, good job.

You will get more torque if you reposition the snap on breaker bar in line with the Honda pulley holding tool. There is some loss of torque since the tool socket is at a 90 degree position. (Instead of it being angled like this _| it should be straight like this / )
I tried everything for my 2005 civic with a 1.7l in it. So I'm just bought a 19mm harmonic dampened socket and shelling out for an impact gun with 1200ftlb of torque. Hopefully it works

Wish me luck. I’ll be doing the timing belt on my Acura TL.
Lisle 77080 is the part number for the socket. like around $25
I went and got me a pulley from O reilleys and the middle of the pulley is smooth and includes a note saying there is a change without the spline because it is not needed because there is not crankshaft. Can you tell when you got the balancer off if it even matters if it smoother and a little smaller the note says it is better designed
The struggle and the triumph haha I loved this video
I struggled with the different methods like the starter bump trick and the breaker bar with a long pipe, nothing worked. I did some research and found out that getting a Milwaukee cordless impact with 1400 lbs of pressure will break it loose with ease.
I did the same and now my pulley is broken and I am thinking how to remove it as it is not possible to use the part to lock the pulley!!!
Just watched this after failing to take a crank bolt off today 2020 still a pain to get that off.
Think high mass lisle socket and lube and short bursts, mallet and breaker bar or air wrench..I see people with 4 extensions ,breaker bar and cheater bar, risking flex and twist and stripping steel on this monster yes,you need the lisle socket and short distance between it
Lisle 77080 19 mm Harmonic Balancer Socket for Honda , looks like a tool that can be used for this type of problem, have you tried this? Any easier? What are you thoughts?
Not sure the torq wrench is the right tool to loosen a tough bolt a half inch breaker bar might be the suitable tool with a extension or a air impact wrench

If you position yourself correctly, you can stand on top of that breaker bar or long jack bar, put some force on it by hoping up/down pressuring it down, and it’ll break loose. 9/10 it works for me. Again, I don’t recommend it, but that was an old school trick that I learned back in the day. Now days, we just shoot it with an impact and it comes off like butter! Haha
