Esmeralda calling Frollo a liar after he claims Quasimodo led him to their hideout always gets a huge “THANK YOU” from me. In a lesser Disney film she’d be turning to Quasi with a betrayed “What does he mean?” look on her face. All that tropey crap is bypassed. Esmeralda’s faith in Quasimodo and distrust of Frollo is just that strong.

Like how in The Rescuers Down Under where Cody accidently leads the villain Mcleach to Marachute's nest in order to capture her, and he acts all grateful that if wasn't for Cody he wouldn't have found her, when it was he who manipulated him into going to the nest in order to protect her eggs, in the first place.

If you listen to the people saying "Release her!" "Let her go!" "She's done nothing wrong!" "She is innocent!", it's a total contrast to the original novel, where the people quickly condemn her for being a "witch" as quickly as they rejoiced in her dancing during the Festival.

There was another video of this scene on KZread that isn't available anymore but pointed this out as well. The user said (rough paraphrasing here) "I really like how the townspeople are NOT happy with this. They could've seen Esmeralda as the cause of all the pain and ruin since Frollo did this because of her and they could have been happy that she was finally getting out of the picture. But instead they realize that she's just another victim of this cruel man."

And in the novel Frollo was a much more complicated and interesting person. He wasn't evil per say, just very very obsessed. He did love Quasimodo and phoebus was kind of an asshole. The movie was very much black and white, while the book was interesting in that Frollo was the villain, but you could still sympathize with him.

Considering how friendly Frollo was when chatting with the flogger at the start of the film, Frollo probably treats his soldiers very well as long as they blindly follow his order. That' also probably why when Phoebus betrayed him he said "You could've had a promising career." Frollo genuinely WILL give Phoebus a huge raise & promotion if he accepted to burn the house.

I’m just admiring all of these voice actors. They all do amazing jobs as their rolls, and they make all of these characters believable, and even the side characters like Clopin and the other Gypsies. The thing I find so entertaining is that to begin with is that before Frollo sets fire to Esmeralda is that literally everybody is vulnerable to put a stop to this especially the Archdeacon. Well Frollo is obviously well organised placing every guard to any obstacle in case of any opposition. However also, I just love also when Quasimodo like the others who are vulnerable is the only hope (hence him being the Main titular Protagonist) on how his strength overpowers his bounds and confinement from being chained, motherfucking awesome and exciting!

Phoebus is a great guy! He respects Quasimodo and gives him more credit for finding Esmeralda and her people😊

@Jake Peterson How do you think that will go, if she chose him over the fire and became his wife? The gypsies are spared only if Esmeralda does everything Frollo says. Quasimodo is allowed out into society as well. Phoebus is spared as well. Frollo will be defeated, but under different means.

@@StephTHatt This reply is fucking me up because for the past year, I've been writing a story where exactly everything you commented happens! Quasimodo is let back into society and Phoebus is spared - the Romani people are decriminalized for as far Esmeralda fully submits to Frollo and obeys him without questioning. It's a branch of the story that's very intriguing to write - what would Phoebus do, what would Quasimodo do, how would Esmeralda deal with the situation... What's the plan, and how will Frollo end up losing the war.... it's basically exactly that. What would've happened if Esmeralda chose him instead of the fire.

It’s their duty, not their pleasure pretty much. The same position Phoebus would’ve been in had he actually burned down that house himself.

Actually, they're not executing the other gypsies. They are forcing them to watch the execution of Miss Esmeralda. Which is much worse.

Is it me or is the way that phoebus, quasimodo and esmeralda are standing when they are surrounded by guards the same way as the gypsies from the opening?

1:25 I probably know this already, but I'm going to ask this anyways, what is it that Esmeralda is wearing when being captured there? And why did Frollo and his guards decided to take part of her usual dress (with the purple and blue colour being shown) off and have her wearing only white? There's nothing wrong with it, I'm just wondering because I really don't get why she would be wearing it when being arrested and for the rest of the film.

Ok, anyways I find it interesting for no reason when she mainly wears white just because she had a lot on in her original outfit but then she wears something simple.
