Our next installment of the Cactus Atlas Camping Guide brings us to Homolovi State Park Campground located in Winslow, Arizona. In our guide, we show our site, explore some of the other sites with electrical hookups, and check out the facilities. Later on, we walk to the Visitor Center, ponder time around an old Mormon cemetery, stand on a corner in Winslow and check out the fireworks show for Independence Day.
Homolovi State Park Campground is a great place to stop and temporarily call home if you're traveling along I-40 in an RV or are exploring a lot of the nearby destinations. The campground is conveniently located inside Homolovi State Park just off I-40 and a short distance away from popular attractions such as Petrified Forest National Park, Meteor Crater, Homolovi State Park, Winslow, and more.
The campground has 53 campsites capable of accommodating RVs of different lengths and needs. At the time of filming (July 2020) the following site info was valid:
Non-Electric campsites: 7, 14, 16, 35, 40-42, 44, 46
30/50 Amp campsites: 5, 12, 20, 24, 28, 33, 39, 43, 47, 52
(all sites not listed above are 30 Amp sites)
ADA Accessible campsites: 8, 10, 12, 24, 38, 52, 53
Campsites with tent pads: 6-10, 13, 14, 16, 21, 26, 27, 30, 38-42, 44, 46, 49, 51
Campsites are well spaced apart so privacy is plentiful at the campground.
Facilities include restrooms with flushing toilets and showers with hot water. Accessible stalls and showers are available.
A dump station is located at the front of the campground and is available for registered guests. Non-campers will need to pay a $15 fee.
A 1.2-mile trail leads from the campground to the Visitor Center. Within the Visitor Center are a gift shop and museum exhibiting pottery and artifacts of the ancient people of Homolovi.
Five other trails within the park provide plenty of hiking opportunities. Numerous species of birds call this area home and bird watching is a common activity.

Very enjoyable Glenn. Surprising being so close to I-40 that more people don't stay there. Love the sunset and the fireworks too. Thanks Glenn and Amy.

Nice campground. For an extra $7 I'd pay for an electric site to plug in a fan. Something I've found useful is a cordless impact wrench, 8 inch lag bolts & 2 inch washers to stake down tents plus the impact wrench is great to get lugnuts off. That skinny mark on the trail was too skinny & deep for being a snake IMHO. What a Beautiful Sunset. Hey & you even got a good fireworks show.

At 17:25 you speak of lives of the Mormon people buried in the cemetery, the internet and how everything came together to allow you to video this place. Now that's a VORTEX! ;)

Time to go back and find the twisted juniper. 😂 In all seriousness though... It's thoughts like that that we think of frequently. How documentation of stories/tales and what have you have changed and we all get that opportunity to be part of it now. Kinda cool stuff. 👍

A fun place to go visit with its quirky items you filmed in Winslow. Love unique statues to sit with. You know they say nothing goes away on the Internet, maybe aliens will intercept signals and come visit winslow in the future like starman did. It appears to be a nice quiet get away place we could all use today.. hope you enjoyed it

Winslow certainly appears to be an interesting town! One we will have to delve into in the future. Not sure about any aliens but maybe they're already there and we didn't know it.

There's meteor Crater and also clear creek nearby. Clear creek is home to a yellow water serpent and we were told as kids never to go and swim there. Wish you had more actual footage of the ruins themselves.

We've been to Meteor Crater a number of times and actually have a video on it as well! 😃 During our stay we did visit the ruins and that footage is included in a separate video on Homolovi State Park - sites 1 and 2.
