It seems most likely they did but we don't know in what capacity, there isn't that smoking gun which would really knock the debate on the head.

Cooking tubers, roasting nuts, toasting seeds, steamed leafy greens; the cooking of the easily gathered plants increased nutrients needed for human brain growth. Scavenging meat was a messy nasty job left for the more deranged members of the tribes.
Where is the fossil evidence for the wide nostrils?
Graecopithecus and his successor, Homo erectus georgicus, are who humans evolved from. We came from the Eurasian Mediterranean coast, NOT Africa!
