I had a dog named shadow. She was a cocker spaniel. My 2 favorite memories of her are whenever we go to the farm I say these words "shadow we're going to the farm wanna go?" And she just comes out of the front door and into the truck. 2nd memory was whenever the mail carrier comes to deliver our mail she runs out of the house chase the mail carrier especially the male ones 🤣. Those are my favorite memories of shadow.
Yeah, I lose it every time Shadow comes over the hill. EVERY. FREAKING TIME. 21 year old male and I bawl like a baby.

My Uncle had a dog like that someone hurt him when he was away and he was very old look like someone hit his leg with a object nothing they could do for him... He was so old my elderly uncle had to help him get to his food bowl. That vet had a hard time trying to put him to sleep it took almost more then five doses before it took affect. The nurse and vet were almost in tears cause of how much that old dog fought for his life just because he didn't want to leave my uncle by himself. My uncle died near the end of that year from a massive stroke. Scenes like this really hit me on a emotional scale cause of that

No joke, Shadow coming over the hill always makes me tear up. If the visuals don't break you, the music will.
as soon as he appeared over that hill I cried. Shadow fought the hardest out of all the animals to return to his boy and refused to give up, even when he looked death in the eye time and time again. nobody deserved this more than Shadow did
Musical score after Shadow says ”I worried about you so” (and when he and Peter start running towards each other) - THAT’s what brings tears to my eyes.
Voices of Michael J. Fox , Sally Field and Don Amechi were perfect. Don Amechi's voice as Shadow exudes so much wisdom and love. Great movie. I saw the original Disney movie "The Incredible Journey" along with "Old Yeller" as a double feature back in the 60's with my dad. A cherished memory.
I've seen this movie countless times and even though I know exactly what's going to happen I always end up crying no matter how much I try to hold back.
This was my favorite movie as a child. I've watched it soooo many times and I always cry.

Shadow's leg is beat up and he's a muddy mess and he's only worried about Peter. All of his dialogue is "i worried about you" and "i thought about you all the time." Just so awesome. Shows you the heart of a dog.
Every time Shadow comes over the hill, “OPEN THE FLOODGATES OF HEAVEN” I’m done
This was the first film I ever remembered crying in. When Shadow came limping over that hill I was literally bawling my eyes out and jumping up and down with excitement. Granted I was 8 back then but I still tear up a little even now.
"Looks like the family's back together, huh?" (Looks at Peter) Ouch, man.

khfan4life365 Some say, you're still bawling to this day.
I was laughing slightly when sassy "Sweetie heart sassy can't breathe."
This movie played a huge role in my childhood. This movie inspires children to love and respect animals. It's probably just me not being a child at this point in time (I'm 25) but I feel that the entertainment industry copy and pastes children's movies and shows, putting very little effort into them.
I recall shadow had been injured right before, and even the other animals (and us, the audience watching) thought Shadow wouldn't make it home. So when he comes over the hill with the music swelling it's the most emotional moment you'll ever experience!
The moment Shadow shows up, I lose it, just... bawl like a baby T__T
Right in the childhood!
I've cried. Thanks for this golden piece, such a great nostalgia.
"He was old. It was too far. He was too old." Shadow: Hold my bone, bitches. Me: I've never been so happy to see a living thing returned home safe in my life.

“Try not to cry or tear up” bro I can’t even THINK about this scene without crying
I'll admit, i cried like a baby
it's impossible to watch this without tearing up or crying, especially if your an animal lover.
I saw this movie when I was 3 years old and instantly knew that I wanted a "Shadow Dog". My mom promised me that if I was good/behaved that I could get a "Shadow Dog" when I turned 10 (Golden Retriever on my Golden Birthday). I spent most of my childhood planning for my Golden Retriever 'Shadow', but my mom made it seem like she wasn't going to be able to get him for me as I got older. However, after school on my 10th birthday, she surprised me and had me pose for a picture while her friend plopped my baby Shadow into my arms. Getting to grow up with Shadow was the biggest blessing ever-- he was my best friend and taught me so much about empathy and love. He was always there for me whenever I was having a rough day. I always hated having to leave him when I moved to NYC for college, but I looked forward to being able to see him during breaks. Yesterday while I was at work, I got a FaceTime from my mom at the vet. Shadow was getting too old and was suffering too much, and putting him down was clearly what was right for him. I got to say goodbye to him and watch him fall asleep for the last time. I miss him so much already. I wouldn't be where I am in life right now if it were not for receiving the greatest gifts eleven and a half years ago. RIP Shadow
1:29 Hope: Oh, Sassy I'll never let you go again. Never, never. (squeezes Sassy) Sassy: Oh! Sweetheart, Sassy can't breath.
*Chance coming over the hill:* I'm so happy, eyes are starting to burn! *Sassy cute meows and runs over the hill:* Oh, god my heart. My eyes are all blurry I CAN'T SEE *Shadow limping over the hill:* bawls
Peter was the reason Shadow decided to live and continue on his journey, he was his strength and motivation.
So, the scene with Shadow and Peter always made me cry right? Well, I went to basic for 5 months and my dog Rocky, was about 12-13. Well, as time progressed, my little dog got worse. He was blind and deaf, and then got hit by a car on my moms birthday. My whole family was devestated and didn't tell me till I graduated. Now the part with Peter and Shadow makes me cry even harder because I never got to have that with my dog. :-(

I had a dog called Rocky he wasn't that old but someone took him up to the forth road bridge and let him go and he was on his way home, but he got hit by a police car. He only had to cross one more lane and he would have been fine. He died on my brother's birthday. What the police done was sickening put him in a black bin back and put him behind one of the bins. Everyone went out looking for him that night. Couldn't find him. My uncle went out looking the next day and found him. My mum had to go out and see if it was him. She opened it up and saw his white paw and that was it she was howling in the street our neighbours seen her and they started crying. He was an amazing dog. Got 2 dogs now and my mum looks really similar to him .I still miss him loads. Really sorry to hear about your dog. Why did they wait until you graduated?

Damn Lisa. Im sorry about your dog Rocky. That's heartbreaking. It's so sad when a pet dies , because it's like a member of the family. That's so sad. You never really stop missing your pets :( & They waited until I graduated because I had a lot of tests and exams to do to graduate, and they didn't want to stress me out even more. Plus, if they had told me what could I have done? I wasn't even close to being home, I was miles away. /:
@lisaallan7616

Ashey Jimenez It is that. Pets are a member of the family you get people saying oh its just a dog or its just a cat. But until they experience it they have no idea. I cried my heart out when my hamster died. She was one of a kind. No other hamster could replace Shier-lee. She got out once when I was cleaning her cage out she managed to undo the bars from the side how she did that I'll never know lol anyway she started walking and went behind the poofy my mum noticed and her reply was shit lisa your hamster's out so I called her name and she turned around and came right back to me and sat on my lap until her cage was done my mum's face was priceless she went oh a hamster that listens to you. She was the best you ask her to give you a paw she'd do it you told her to stand she'd do it beg, high five, kisses, turn she'd do them all. I had her for a few months she was only 9 months old when she passed she had two eye infections and an ulcer inside her mouth which I didn't know until she passed hamster's a very clever at hiding their illnesses. I had a hamster Remy before and after she passed got him a couple of months after her he died of old age but a couple of days before he got out don't know how my mum spoke to her neighbour about him being gone and our other neighbour noticed his cat had something and he was like that doesn't look like a mouse so our neighbour told him well he was hitting the cat because the cat refused to let go. Eventually the cat did let go I got him back there was no cuts on him he wasn't bleeding sadly he died 2 days later. Got another hamster Akira now. But all the animals I've got I have 13 pets the now. My mum and dad always said no more pets well that didn't work out. Haha. I feed them, clean them, give them water, so they don't really grumble on it too much. The only food they help out with mainly is the dog food got 2 one is mine and the other is a family dog which still makes him mine even know he calls my mum his mum literally he says my mum. Sometimes they'll help out on the rabbit food and the hamster and gerbil food they 2 get the same Akira used to get just hamster food she used to be a picky wee shite but she ran out of her food one day and the hamster gerbil food was the only one available and she finally started eating it. So I stuck with that. The only food they don't help out on is the degu food but if I needed their help they'd do it. Sorry for rambling on here. Were you kind of annoyed at first that they didn't tell you right away? If it was me I'd be but then realise why they did it. If they did tell there's not much you could have done. How long was it that he died by the time you graduated? If you don't mind me asking?

such a basic story
When Chance blasts into view I always choke. Then during Sassy's rather understated arrival and the jokes about not being able to breathe I am able to re-compose myself. Then Peter says Shadow was too old and I'm still okay. Then he comes into view and the mom sort of gasps and that's it, I'm gone. Knowing what comes next I am just gone.

+Luke Scates I totally agree with you! He also did a great job with the narration of the movie as well. To be honest though, out of the movies that I've seen with Michael J. Fox in or in a voice over role, I thought he did an amazing job, just an amazing actor. I think his best work had to have been in the Back to the Future trilogy. Part 2 especially, when he had to play 3 characters Marty, Marty Jr and Marlene.

That's the exact thing that my dog kaya did as well! One time we took her and my other dog roxy to camping right on a beach, and they both went swimming and yeah, but before we were about to start a campfire, she was just lying on the ground. She puked a little bit so we thought she swallowed too much water, and she was like that the whole night. Even roxy was staying by her, making sure she's ok. But then, one time when my mom got up to go get a drink in the middle of the night, kaya was dead on the floor, with roxy beside her whimpering and her head bowed down. She was only 4 years old and roxy was only 3 at the time.... After that, Roxy was not her normal self. She used to always just sit by the staircase, staring at the picture of kaya. When she finally got over it, she was playing, and barking, a normal dog. But she still sat by the staircase sometimes, not remembering why. She is now almost 9 years old and is being better
Been watching this movie since I was 3! Now 30 years later it still gets me!

This movie is PERFFECTION! I completely adore Shadow .. golden retrievers are soooo not from this world 💜
There's something about when Shadow comes limping up the hill & says "Peter" that it's impossible not to cry. You can hear the relief in his voice to finally see his boy (safe) & it was worth the long journey
This movie made an entire generation of kids want an old dog like Shadow. What a good boy!
I bought these two movies on DVD the other day and just watched them. I never cried when I watched these as a little kid but I did today when Shadow came over the hill.

I tried to be the cool kid who didn't cry, but this movie, god damn, there is not enough cool in the world.
I remember when I saw this in theaters as a kid, I cried all the way back to the car. They could not have found a better dog to play Shadow, and after reading about Ben aka Shadow's antics after the movie, makes me love him even more. This line: "It was Shadow's victory really. His belief is what got us through, and in that moment I saw the years lift from him. He was a puppy again, reunited with his best friend." Melts my heart.
This is an unbeatable test. This killed my feelings when I was 7...
Okay, it's been a few years, this'll be fine! *Starts Video* Okay, just normal. *Chance comes back* Oh god... It's so adorable! Okay, don't cry, don't cry. *Sassy walks in* COMPOSE MYSELF! *Peter thinks Shadow is dead* Poor Peter... Aww... *Shadow comes back* I failed the test...
"...Peter." *Tears up and starts to sob uncontrollably*
I have 2 golden retrievers so I can’t help but sob. In scenes like this I find myself grabbing onto them and telling them I love them.
It doesn't matter how many times I watch this I still cry every time.
This is beautiful, the fact that it makes you cry, even IF you still had the belief that he'd make it home. Thank you Disney, for the wonderful memories from childhood. (个_个)
I loved it when Chance came over the hill, I started to cry at that moment. By the time Sassy and Shadow came over the hill, well let’s say Kleenex made a great profit on me that day. I never had a movie do that to me. I’ve cried, but this one really made me to really bawl. I’m 63 and I’ll still watch it every once in awhile. Get ready to start up crying again.
No tears is impossible!
I legit haven’t seen this in years and still ended up crying again when I saw this 😭

Penny sorry
I loved this movie as a kid, this part always made me tear up. Great movie ❤️
I am a teacher and I almost cried in a classroom full of 6 year olds when Shadow came back!
As someone who just lost a golden retriever of 16 years, this scene gets to me. Such a beautiful and bittersweet scene. Really shows the love between a man and his dog.
When Shadow comes limping over the hill.....I broke. That music, the little boys reaction. How can you not cry or at least want to? Wonderful, classic movie.
That's the guy from Airplane.

No matter how old I get, this ending always gets me
I had recently lost my 14 year old German shepherd/collie mix shortly before my 37th birthday. He was always happy when I came home from work. When I had this movie on DVD, I always thought he would react the same Shadow did. Though I have a new puppy keeping me company now, I miss my boy.
Not gonna cry this time. Nope, nuh-uh, not gonna do it. (chokes up a second in) GODDAMMMIT! (cue the ocular gushers) 😭

This ending scene of Homeward Bound of Sassy, Chance, and Shadow running home to their owners and kids always makes me cry!! SO EMOTIONAL!!!
I must have seen this film at least 20times, so I know shadow comes back in the end but I'm still a blubbering mess when it looks like hes not made it.
I love the sound of trumpets when Shadows crests the hill. They sound warm and triumphant.

Every time I watch this scene it never fails to make me cry and I'm 24 years old haha
Soon as chance cleared that hill i started sobbing
I still think the ending to Marley and Me makes me cry more, only because it's a man saying goodbye forever to his dog. I was completely unprepared for that and BAWLED like a baby My first time watching Marley. Not cried, but Bawled- you can hear me crying from across the aisles. But that's okay because everyone else was too. At the ending of Homeward Bound, I did cry a little because I was happy for Shadow Chance and Sassy and for their family for getting them back. It's a happy ending.

I totally agree... To an extent. But here's the difference: With Marley, we saw the progression of a puppy to a dog - but the human characters were adults. Marley was a pain in the ass but he was like the eldest kid... And when he passed, it was a their child, or an early part of their relationship dying. With Shadow... And Sassy... And Chance... A lot of us saw this movie (and heard the "true story") as kids and related to our childhood pets. There's a difference when a pet is almost your age... Especially when that animal relates to you and takes care of you (ie: Chance to Jamie, Sassy to Hope, Shadow to Peter). And when that older animal, who you look to as your family emblem and your childhood love, passes away, it's so FUCKING hard. Shadow *maybe* not making it represents Peter becoming a man...

I stopped the movie when marley got sick. I knew what was coming. I only watch animal movies with happy endings... I can't stand when hollywood kills off a pet just to make you cry. The animals here make it home and that's why you cry! HAPPY TEARS!

@@Elisheval Please watch A Dog's Way Home. I went to see it at the movies. You will love it. It's about beautiful precious baby girl Bella making her way back home to Lucas. Bella meets furry friends along the way, before she reunites with Lucas. There's happy ending with Bella and Lucas, and happy endings for Bella's furry friends.
What a beautiful ending ♡
I have watched this movie SO many times... I just... It's just so... THERE ARE NO WORDS!!!!! I cry every time!
32 years old and I saw this movie a dozen times as a kid. Still freaking tearing up.
If 3:00 were the actual rest of the ending, this would have been considered an avant garde arthouse masterpiece.
I didn't cry. And then again, I've already seen the movie and read the book. However, I did feel energy come out of me as soon as Shadow came up the hill. People are right when they say the movie isn't as good as the book. The animal's real names are Luath-Shadow, Tao-Sassy (and yes it's a boy), and Bodger-Chance
How can you not cry over this? It's to beautiful! *sniffle* I'm crying right now over this reunion!
when chance ran over that hill I smiled, when sassy cam over, the tears started, the shadow came and a waterfall fell from my eyes
Shadow, friggin gets me all the time. Even when I was young. He's a good boyo.
I watched this movie when i was like 6 or 7 years old. I'm 28 now. KZread recommended this out of nowhere. A trip down childhood, and goosebumps all over!
