Homeskoolin' Volume 215, Tom Bukovac, "Orange Skin Blues"
Uncle Larry addresses a major problem in the guitar culture...a complete and total misunderstanding of what that shiny metal bar that sticks out of your bridge is supposed to do.
Thanks for watching kids, i mean it

"Low pickups sound like records, high pickups sound like bad youtube videos!" 😂 Homeskoolin' at its finest! Loved that!
Great message about learning songs without looking at someone is playing it. Learn by ears!
Don't change a thing Tom. You are something we look forward to seeing and listening to. You're a top geezer mate.
The dead stare @ 9:10, after doling out the most sage advice...LOL!

hahaha, that reminded me of a scene from Hot Tub Time Machine when Craig Robinson mentions the name of the movie and makes direct eye contact with the camera for moment.
The dead stare at 9:11 is hilarious. As always, great content. Thanks for another great episode, Uncle Larry.

Just introduction performance alone... amazing master class! Thank you!
Uncle Larry, I’ve been playing for over 20 years, and someday I hope to be able to invoke one tenth of the emotion you do when you play. Those chords, man. You’re an incredible inspiration.
Damn near every song/tune I ever learned ( I started in 1974 ), was totally by ear, listening to records & tapes, with the help of Budweiser beer. The beer literally helped me get the vibe & groove of all of those songs. ( I've always played & sang at the same time. Still do. )
I'm an engineer. Never going to be a great guitarist. I enjoy the process of the hobby. Never wanted to make my hobby a job. Relearning to play after a couple strokes made it all the more precious. Every once in a while someone will mention some great guitarist who overcame some malady to be even better and that I have no excuse. Well, I wasn't good to start, lost the use of my left hand/arm for a decade. Feel blessed to be here...will die a guitar hack. I'm okay with that. Thanks for the forum to chat, Tom
Just slays me when Buko drops a nugget of wisdom and just stares directly into my soul. Cracks me up every time

Great episode. Love the guitar talk.
Such a great helpful episode! Really needed this info, won't even say how much. Thanks for sharing all your expertise as always! 😎
You're the best Tom, thanks for everything you do
Always interesting, never boring. Thanks Uncle Larry. Much respect. "Never Leave Spontaneity to Chance"...
He cracks me up..! “ I gotta have the stick exactly 1 3/4”…” but then…” This one’s higher..but that’s ok “…!! Whaaattt..?? 🤣🤣🤣
Solid fundamental Skoolin' today! Unc' Larry, Thank you for all you share.
Tom.. thank you. You’re an inspiration to us all. I wear you homeskoolin shirts with pride! Thanks for the videos. Been watching since the beginning and am grateful for your time
Good stuff thanks Tom. Practicing daily again after a break.
Sitting outside alone on my break, and just exalted "OH" right when the first chords show up. Amazing! Thanks.
Thank you sir for your videos and inspiration. Have a great weekend!
Tom, in the few short weeks that I've been watching your videos I have been inspired, intrigued and very much enjoy what you provide so freely for everyone. I especially enjoy your digressions on so many gigs, sessions and general guitar playing guy shit that you've done, it's very hip, please continue brother!
Thanks for the lesson. Will go practice now.. Liking theese longer ones
The good Uncle dropping knowledge in-between knowledge. "In many ways in life". Brilliant, as always. Uncle Larry always keeping us on our toes and learning. Thank you!
Pure inspiration! This is gold
Great episode today. Thx Tom. They all help, but this one really helped.
In watching you play, one of my favorite things to see you do are all of those cool chord voicings! Makes the music even more interesting.
I now love my juniors because of you telling me about the music city bridge. Thanks Uncle Larry 😁
Great episode! Skool is in session today. Everyone needs a friend like Uncle Larry. Top dude.
Excellent as always tom .
I love the way the whammy detunes your chords when you start with it depressed as you hit the notes so they sound like they’re falling apart, then you release it and everything’s in tune. Hell then heaven.
I started coming here a few years back for the playing but as time goes on I’m coming here for the chatting. Power and respect to you Tom. Greetings from Brisbane Australia.
Uncle Larry - love your videos. Helping folks get through the day - its much appreciated. Ignore the noise out there...if they have an issue w/you or your content they can go pound sand.
I wish you and Marshall the best in the talent show! Thank you Tom! ❤️
Keep doing what your doing... it's awesome.. like hanging with guitar buddies...
Wow, what a cool song! Beautiful!
Salut Tom ! love ya buddy ! and thanks for everything !
Uncle Larry please just carry on doing what you do. Its appreciated.
Another great session. I get alot out of these chats. That jam at the front of the video was beautiful. 👍
That intro tune was fabulous , so colorfull, impressive uncle Larry !! ..
wow what a masterful intro, great lesson, thank you!!!
Soooo glad to have stumbled on to this KZread channel back during the not-so-great distancing. Tommy Emmanuel was the first to truly leave me gobsmacked while watching/listening to him play....Uncle Larry is definitely on that very short list of musicians that ooze musicality when they play...that can bring me to tears or make me cheer as they do what they do sooooo well. Fan for life Uncle Larry...
That opening jam was so awesome!!
Thank you for the whammy bar technique. Only over 40 years of playing. Learned something new.
By accident I stumbled onto this channel during the covid sessions day 1. I had no idea who this guy was/is. Ever since Tom has not only given us "free lessons" but most importantly has given me and others amazing insight into to his life while maintaining the most humble of attitudes. Thank u !
I got a Music City bridge for my 62 LP/SG Jr and it works perfectly. The guitar actually intonates well now, and sounds amazing. Awesome video and thanks for the gold on using the bar and the slide.
First time commenter… Love your videos. Thanks for the “talent bar” tips… great info and me laugh… sometimes advice is good… sometimes a laugh is good… good advice that can make me laugh… priceless! Thanks man… I really needed that.
Good luck to you and your Son at the talent show. You're such a great Dad!!
just tooled over to MCB. thanks for mentioning it, impressive gear. love your show !thanks Allan
Glasses? $1500.00 for 3 sets of frames + tests and perscription. I used the whammy to wiggle and shimmer chords, and with a volume pedal, used it to play fake steel guitar in the variety band I was in for 27 years. I had a real early Paul Reed Smith, like from the 80s. Uncle Larry shows more musicality in 2 minutes on here than I demonstrated cumulatively in all of my 27 years on the bandstand. Talent is real, as is the lack of it. :-)
Tom, your comedic timing is... insane. those deadpan looks and and silence are... perfect - thanks for making my day more enjoyable
Your playing is flawless but I love your words of wisdom Tom!
Excellent slide advice.!!👍🏼❤️
When you're the one that has your comment acknowledged...your day is immediately better. Thanks for the vid Tom
Alright Larry…. I’ve watching the channel a lot!!! So much that I’ve gone back to early episodes I missed… a lot!! Lol Man! I gotta tell ya a BIG THANKS for reinforcing what I already knew and the shit ton of stuff you’ve shared with us. I’m a semi-retired musician that decided to give it another go… Hit the studio recently with a band and had most likely my best recording experience in 30 years after soaking up your knowledge and experience. You Sir are a gem 💎 Beaucoup d’amour Jean Machine!!
My friend, English Phil, was a Teddy boy in Darby England. They were in between the mods and rockers. Huge James dean quiffes.
Beautiful and inspiring every single time! Thank you for your effort and knowledge. And you have cool hair dude. 👍🏽

Uncle Larry the 3 years or so I’ve been watching you has helped my playing improve and I’m so grateful to have found homeskoolin your guitar playing has changed my approach and made me inspired to practice daily and really work on implementing the skills I’ve learned from you! Thank you for HS lessons. I’m looking forward to the new 11 song album from Guthrie and you. The black and white wearing pants #10 is so good I’ve watched it at least 20 times and have been working on playing it…also really looking forward to new Trip the witch and Plexi Soul projects? This current HS episode is excellent the wang bar and slide are areas I’m looking to improve upon and this was very helpful. Thanks again for what you’re giving us it’s appreciated greatly!

Love everything about you and your show Tom. I have rewatched a few of your vids 20+ times. God save Uncle Larry!!
That strat sounds sweet, Tom. Sound great as always dude.
Man, I love this channel. The Uncle Larry “get the f$&k off my lawn with that bulls$&t guitar method” is the best resource on the web.
Tim Pierce tipped me off to your channel, and I’m so glad he did. Now I get up mid-morning, grab a coffee and check out what’s happening with you-a great way to start the day. Stay cool, bro.
Your music, teachings and way of seeing life are the best example of the benefits of technology for those of us who live thousands of kilometers from Nashville. Don't you ever change!
This channel is an example of how cool the internet could be. Bravo. I couldn't ask for a more unpretentious, wholesome, educational, and FREE content. Maybe perfect IS easy?
Man Tom! Those voicings and bends (both fingers and wang bar) are stunning. Beautiful clusters. (Heard a bit of a Lenny Breau-style harmony at the beginning). Thanks for doin' what you do so well!
Your pause at 9:15, so fracking good. I can’t thank you enough for doing what you do.
Soooooo good as always Uncle Larry! Fabulous git fiddlin.
Uncle ....love u....im biased i think thats my favorite of your tones...reverb with a rosewood board...played clubs 45 years your my favorite... great chord work sir.....
That sounded sooo bloody good. I rode that whole wave. Thanx Dave.
That opening tune always make me cry.
One of the best teachers...thank you uncle Larry!
Tommy, the gretsch sounds so nice.. Super rad, thanks for makin these for us to learn from!
So fitting that you chose a Paul Simon tune to learn off a record. I just learned One Trick Pony and Nobody from the One Trick album! That recording, and many more of his songs are an exercise in harmonic excellence. Funny note to include in a message to you, a former Cleveland native is: when Richard and Paul, in the film of same name, are talking as Paul is bathing, the camera then looks out the window across Brookpark Rd. including the marquee of the hotel they’re in. On the marquee it reads “ Vince Harrison and the Naturals “. The band I was sideman with at the time. Playing at Joe Finan’s Four Seasons Lounge. Not long after I met your guru, Bubba and had the pleasure working with him and remaining friends to this very day. Sorry about the meandering grammatical extravaganza herein but a bit of Cleveland mini history. Love Home Skoolin’!!
If I had to describe Tom Bukovac with a single word it would be the word real. Real meaning that his demeanor is down to earth, humble and sincere, with a refreshing lack of pretension. There are as many life lessons here as there are music/guitar lessons.
I learned America by Paul Simon many years ago and absolutely love performing it. Thanks for the inspiration to revisit it and polish it a bit more! Been working on the George Martin piano part on In My Life that you played a few vids back. That’s a bit of a challenge for me on guitar, but fun!
Love your cast. I've been playing so much more since I started watching. I used to be a session bass player in LA back in the late 70's. There were too many shitty whammy bar guitar players , I switched to bass.i stopped playing for a living in the late 90's. Love that opening song. Sweet
Thanks for that bar and slide advice 💡moment !
Ever think you'd have to self analyze your playing and describe it to world in endless detail? Crazy man. 👍🥃
I have to remember to close my mouth at the end of you playing. you sir are exemplary
You have inspired me to work on wang bar technique so I’m going to learn to play Apache today. Thanks Larry!
Man, I love you. Thanks the lesson on vibrato bar, and pickup height, and ignoring the gear page, and practicing. You described exactly what seems intuitively obvious to me. But know-it-all big-mouths in other places spout off like they are the last word in everything. So thanks!
The man does it yet again.
Uncle Larry... I've been subscribed to the channel since the early beginning about volume six (6), early on when COVID had everyone locked down. I've always enjoyed your work and each volume you've posted. I'm sure you've been a big influence on many of the viewers as well. Thanks for stickin' to it and hangin' in through all the pains of life! P.S. Please make sure to post the session with you on drums and Marshal on guitar!
These videos are an amazing resource for guitarists, and so far it seems like every episode has at least one incredibly valuable diamond of essential knowledge or wisdom based on your experience.... Sometimes it's something you say directly, sometimes it's hidden in an aside/passing comment, but it's always there. And then there are videos like this one, where you're just kind of throwing handfuls of diamonds at us like a six-string slinging Oprah...
Folks, this is what a professional sounds and plays like ! Love that buk!
I watch several guitar channels and you, Uncle Larry, are at the top of the list. I learn so much from y'all. Triads, CAGED, but I know that I'm desperately lacking in certain areas. When is one of you guys, and I'm assigning you, going to do the video on guitar face? 😩😟😖😵💫 This is too important a lesson to be left neglected. ✌️
