This sounds very similar to Washington state homeschooling, where a letter of intent and standardized testing are required. Many homeschoolers prefer to live in Idaho to have even greater liberty homeschooling. Since I live in Spokane, I'm right on the border of Idaho. Yes, every state is slighly different.

How do you get in touch with those groups? We are in Greenville

Facebook has been the best way for me to find groups! I usually search homeschooling and the county I am on or ask I'm a local mom's group isn't here is a homeschooling support group for the area. There is also an NC homeschooling Facebook group that might be helpful.
