Homemade Wooden Go Kart Build | NO WELDING or Expensive Power Tools!

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Ever wonder How To Make A Cheap Go Kart from Scratch?
In this video we show you guys how to build a motorized go kart for a good price with no complicated tools, only stuff that you would find in a typical garage; saws, hammers, drills, ext. What we did was began by making a wooden go kart frame for the base our of 2x6 and 2x4 wood, then held the frame with plywood. To support the wood on the homemade go cart we used screws and bolts to hold the wheels on. Then using a predator 212 engine, clutch, and chain we made it a driver!

Where was KZread when I was a kid? O wait the internet didn't even exist! This brings back so many memories of trial and error. That is when I found out what a horizontal shaft motor was. Most people have no clue what an engineering feat it was for a 12 year old and his friend to figure out the engine set up with a mower vertical shaft engine! I hope many kids watch this and get the building itch! Thanks again guys!

A tip to anyone doing this if you have bike parts laying around you can use the handlebars to turn by drilling through the wood the size of the wheel mounts and you put them through and tighten bolts on the bottom to keep them from coming out then you can drill holes in the tubing for more bolts to keep it from scraping the ground.

Many kids these days, stuck in their rooms blasting aliens and the like. Does absolutely nothing for their development. In the 60,s in Ireland we built these, but without the motors (obviously) and we called them "Guiders". We had ball bearings at the back. Some noise. So she sat higher at the front because we used old pram wheels. Mean looking things , but the fun of the build and getting the parts on no money at all, really tested your ingenuity. Oh and by the way, when you spun her, the ball bearing "wheels" at the back threw out some sparks I can tell you. What joy! Well done boys. That,s a great build.

If you make a metal engine plate with elongated holes, bolt the engine mount plate to the wood and drill out the wood below the elongated holes that should keep your engine in place. To make it even better use two mounting plates one on top and one under the wood this would ensure that your engine stays put.

Good thing i did not let my kid go first. Too much steering, too much power, and a bad driver. Always wanted a go cart and then one day my uncle came by wanting to store a VW dune buggy which was everything but the bug shaped metal casing and windows. It was the ultimate field car without seat belts and danderous as hell being without roll bars...

I’d definitely reinforce the front end with some kind of arch. Knowing how I like to thrash what I build, I could see that splitting like a toothpick if you come down on it wrong!

I love the fact that you guys are using your hands and developing problem solving skills. This sort of thing will set you apart from your peers in so many aspect of your future lives. Just one suggestion .. use two boards underneath since that wood is not very good quality. At least check and see is the grain in vertical; think diving board. You don’t want it to snap in half when you’re driving.

2 words for ya, rope steering. Mount a steering wheel on your handle bar mount with a rod going down. On the bottom of your steering rod mount a pulley with a groove at least wide enough to accommodate 3 coils of rope (more = more friction and less chance of slipping but 3 is typically enough for a slow cart). The larger the pulley the more responsive the steering will be, smaller gives finer control but you will need more revolutions of the wheel to reach full lock. Next, fix the end of a rope to the top of your steering board, as close to the wheel as you can making sure the rope mounting point is on a level with where the top coil of rope will be on the pulley. Wrap the rope 3 times around your pulley keeping the rope tension tight and attach the other end to the bottom of the opposite side of your steering board. Fix the rope coming off the bottom of the pulley to the underside of the steering board on the other side, that will keep the geometry better aligned. You can also install guides to help keep the rope from popping off the pulley if you didn't measure things up right. If done right you will have a cheap and dirty steering system that should give you full lock both ways.

Thank you so much on showing me where to get everything I'm in a wheelchair and I'm going to make one my wheelchair can roll on it. I'll of course have to put ravers and electric start but it will be a cool project. I'm thinking it should not cost no more then $500.00 pretty much I have everything but the power set up

My spy at Recaro called, he swore me to secrecy but they are looking at producing a seat just like yours as an aftermarket upgrade for high end sports cars....don't tell anyone, its a secret! 😉 I might have missed it, but I didn't see a kill switch, even with a basic design a kill switch is an important safety feature in case of a stuck throttle. If the throttle gets stuck and you don't have a means to kill the engine it could result in an injury. This is such a fun starter project we shouldn't forget this important safety feature, and as my shop teacher used to yell at us, wear your eye protection you only have one set of eyes!
