Homemade silent ATV exhaust

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

My stock ATV muffler was shot. So I took my old Ford Ranger exhaust muffler and welded it up to my ATV. Much quieter than silent exhaust that you can buy. And at a fraction of the cost!

Quiet is best, why go deaf from noise when you can go quiet and hear all the rich sound quality? Its like Beats vs Sennheiser, sure you could make Beats far louder, but it doesn't sound good. Actually, Beats kinda suck, and straight pipes also kinda suck for anything but a vehicle built to be raw, like an Aussie burnout machine, or a drag car. If its going on the road or meant for long rides, quiet is king every single time.

Purchased this to replace a guide pulley kzread.infoUgkxO9seYZjlnuP5UvMkb7osQW3WxPVeSnPk on our John Deere x304 snowblower. As I stated in the title, it is just about perfect. The stock pulley has a spacer at the bottom. I used four washers to emulate said spacer, and it works perfectly now. Great product, and great price especially if compared to typical JD prices.

Just a FYI the sound reflects off the ground so if you point the exhaust tip out it will make less noise! Almost 99.9% positive it will!

I like it, nice job man. Disregard any negative comments below, they don't understand that as hunters quieter is better. There also would be absolutely no loss of power either, that muffler size is not restrictive at all. In fact you probably could have gone with a smaller diameter like a muffler from a Toyota Corolla, might even be bit quieter. Thanks for sharing bro!

Great idea. You could even weld another muffler under that one and the valves would probably be louder than the exhaust note. It would be almost silent. That would make it great for riding at night, hunting or anywhere there's a noise ordinance.

Considering how much larger the truck muffler is in diameter, there's less flow restriction than there is in the ATV's original exhaust pipes that come before it. The inner diameter of the flared stock muffler is smaller than the truck muffler, some people in this comment section just don't seem to understand that. If anything, any flow restriction may come from turbulence generated by the sudden _increase_ in diameter, and even then not much, and fully alleviated by replacing the input end of that muffler with a short section that gradually increases in diameter to make the flow rate reduction smooth and not abrupt and minimize turbulence.

Very nice and clean modification there. Also very logical to do, quiet is and has always been better if the vehicle isn't a drag car, a funny car or a burnout machine. For those in these comments who think they know physics, the only possible flow restriction this muffler causes is precisely the opposite of what they think, its the sudden increase in the pipe diameter from the smaller inner diameter of the blown stock muffler to the truck muffler. Let me guess, the Ranger had somewhere around 2 inch diameter dual exhaust pipes, and the ATV has a 1.5 inch diameter exhaust? Fitting, given the ATV has less than a quarter of the horsepower of a Ranger, not like it needs the horsepower of a V8 given that it weighs maybe a fifth or a sixth as much and has far shorter gearing. A '90s V6 Ranger has, what? 160 horsepower? This ATV, maybe 30 at best? I just looked, its a Honda Foreman ES, the related 2011 Rubicon made 33hp, so maybe 25 for an older one. Closest I could find was the '09 Foreman 500, that made 27. So yeah, a Ranger muffler is a bit big, but whatever you got, eh? Whatever you've got on hand that works is always best, why spend money when you can do good with what you got? That's a smart thing to do through life, it leaves you with a lot more cash than you thought you'd have, even when all your neighbors who spend more flagrantly are wondering where all their's went.

@@fish_R_stinky69 so I can tell you are younger bc the profile pic…. No loss in power means it’s still FAST and POWERFUL as a hunter when I go get my deer feed ready I don’t like all the deer within 100 acres to hear me they run off and it takes a while for them to come back comfortably, on top of that i ride my four wheeler on a property a few neighbours down and race it as well as hit the mud. Having both of those options is great… atvs are not meant to be fast and loud you are talking about race quads and dirt bikes, atvs are vehicles like cars but for off-road and work if you where actually in a big atv group you would know it’s not about loud it’s about whose can get through that mud and climb that hill and who is going to get left behind in the dust. Then the work aspect what atv is going to pull that load through the forest I bet your crappy little loud box will do 70 more mph but it’s not going to make it to the party pits or the job site. So my rant is almost over if you are going to hype up your community within the atv realm don’t shame any other rider it makes you sound like you don’t know anything about them. There are many types of atvs just like trucks and cars some are fast some are slow some are loud and some are quite they’re built for the rider not ever quad is the same.

How's the long term durability of the weld and exhaust flex holding up? Really considering this, for my son's 450s Foreman. I commend your resourcefulness!!

would be sick if you made a u- turn out of that ford muffler, and went back into another 3rd muffler.. bet it would cut the noise in half again..
