Dude, there are hundreds of channels that do this same stuff with equipment they built out of wood. You can multiply that with people who don't have channels that do this. Probably hundreds of thousands of people are like this.

U gave a new meaning to home made as i know some small factories that have less equipment ,resources,and skill power than u do. Nice job

Not to mention that all of his tools appear to be shop made!

I made this in an afternoon. I used poly carb plastic scrap in place of the steel knife alignment and scissor clamp. Getting the stainless sharpening rod down to exactly 3/8” took the most time. Try to find a rod that is the exact diameter or a tiny bit smaller. I also made a second rod about 6 inches longer which works better for me. A stop nut on the back of the rod is also helpful. Bottom line is that the design works great and is made for next to nothing cost wise. I then bought stones from Gritomatic for another $80. You will also need a digital angle finder.

Just a tip. Only stroke your stone downward then lift and stroke downward again. Very impressive jig!

That looks a very handy jig for making sharp knives. I need one!

A drop of 3 and 1 or any oil on metal as your drilling into it works wonders. You drill faster and keeps heat down so bits last longer. Someone tipped me this years ago so I'm paying it forward.

I was planning to buy a sharpening jig, then I remember the scissors had to be sharpen too. Then here comes you video, a nice jig for knife and it works for scissors too. A simple and very useful design. Now I'll DIY instead of buying one. Thank you for your effort. Just subscribed.

That second to last cut with the rolled paper, wow. That is scary sharp! Fantastic work sir! Just, wow. I've seen $1500 sharpening systems not get close to that level of sharp. That has to be like 25 or 40 on the sharpness index. I can't express how impressed I am. Really well done.

It's the fixed angle combined with a fixed location for the blade that allows perfect consistency on the sharpening. It's not so much the concept as the design and work he did to make it that's so impressive.

On my to do list. What is the plywood material you used? Available in US?

Nicely done! @3:56 is why I’ll never take up metal work as a hobby. The sound of a file going over metal. It disturbs me greatly. Never knew why.

Could you provide a link to those sharpening stones? I've found some on Aliexpress, but not going very high grit, and definitely not a leather one for final polishing.

Spectacular work, I am assuming that if the knife holder is at 15 degrees, the bar that holds the whetstone is parallel to the table?

I made the device that holds your angle grinder and all I have to say it's been the most used tool used for cutting. Thanks for the ideas and videos you provide for everyone.

Easy to make a homemade copy of an in-use design. Quite another thing to start with a blank sheet of paper. Do you find the Sawing method works better than Out vs In? I did enjoy the video.

There is no doubt you can get an edge on any blade! I don't think I could build this cause I don't happen to have a broke printer, I guess I will have to stay with bench grinder. Thanks tho, you did an amazing job!

They are called Heim joints or spherical rod ends.

The diamond plates, the grinding stone and the leather plates all have different thicknesses. So I assume the angle while sharpening hast o be adjusted depending on the tool you use. Do you also do this?

Кстати о напылении - когда-то имел возможность покрыть электроискровым методом карбидом вольфрама по одной режущей кромке на нескольких ножах.Они давно потеряли товарный вид, используются в подсобных работах, но никогда не точились! За счёт разной твердости кромок затачиваются при использовании.

That's right - the bottom nut allows you to accurately set the sharpening angle

What did you use for the magnetic-base..? A plastic magnet? Seems neodymium strong ... or is the strength just a product of its size?

It's not about just putting a keen edge on the blade but putting the correct edge for what's being cut and an edge that will last more than 3 cuts.

In my case the the rod end bearing has to be drilled to an diameter a bit bigger than 8mm since the steel shaft of my old printer has a diameter of also 8mm and I wasn`t able to mount the shaft in the bearing. And for sharpenning it should glide really smoothly. Think it`s easier to open the bore instead of grinding the shaft...;-) Did you have the same problem?

No, I used a roller from an old inkjet printer - it fits perfectly. The printer can be bought very cheaply on bulletin boards, cheaper than the shaft alone. I haven't tried it, but I think it's really impossible to grind the shaft - it's hardened, you'll only ruin it without special equipment.

The grinding worked perfect. At the end it was easier than bringing the bore of the bearing to 8.01 or so. I just clamped the shaft into the drilling maschine and worked the diamter smootly down with a 800 grid sand paper at the end. Now it slides smoothly through the bearing. The surface is not that smooth than before, but it is ok. Thank you very much again for your videos. Well done.

Лайк за ваш вариант универсальной точилки! Для кухонного ножа у вас угол выдерживается в пределах 25 - 30 градусов. Но, по моему мнению, лучшей заточкой кухонных ножей была бы радиусная заточка поверхности лезвия, которая в разы повышала бы стойкость остроты лезвия ножа. Ведь тонкая режущая кромка при "малой" твердости материала ножа заворачивается, при "большой" твердости выкрашивается. Радиусную заточку поверхности в зоне режущей кромки можно получить с помощью рычагов на точилке. Я уверен, вы сможете сделать и многим ваша конструкция сможет пригодиться. Здоровья вам и удачи!

В конструировании точилок для ножей мы с вами идем удивительно параллельными курсами! :) В своей первой версии у меня был аналогичный, до полного совпадения направляющий узел и стойка из шпильки и столик очень похожий. И стекла с наждачной бумагой - наше всё :). Во второй своей версии я от шпильки ушел - низкая жесткость. Сделал портал по типу козлового крана и направляющую сделал из продольного подшипника на карданном подвесе... Вам, возможно, в свой станок стоит добавить крючок, для паковочной позиции и базу для угломера. Поправьте меня, но на второй версии стамески точить уже нельзя.

Любую конструкцию можно усовершенствовать, благодарю ,что делитесь опытом. Соглашусь, что П-образная конструкция жестче, но и сложнее - тут надо выбирать. Сам думал над этим, но продумывал над стойками из шпилек. Крючка действительно не хватает, но смирился. А угол выставляю смартфоном, опирая его на деревянные зажимы брусков. Да, от заточки стамесок отказался, хотя можно приноровится и прижать струбциной.

Все понятно но непонятно одно-как Вы выставляете угол заточки,ведь область заточки ножа находится практически паралельно столу?И второй вопрос-какие размеры и угол косынки на которой крепится верхняя плита точилки? С ув.

Угол заточки ножа выставляется высотой установки шарнирного узла. причем это можно сделать довольно точно при помощи гайки под подшипником. Размер косынки, а также остальные размеры точилки вы можете посмотреть в чертежах. Ссылка в описании видео

@@MazayDIY Пытался скачать чертеж,но ссылки не работают.Если можно,обновите пожалуйста.Относительно угла заточки.У Вас нож крепится на плите уже с установленным градусом около 15-16 градусов.Не получиться ли отрицательный угол установки точильного камня по отношению к уже имеющемуся углу?
