I grew up near Detroit and we didn’t call it Detroit-style pizza then. In my family we called it “the square kind.” As in, want pizza? Sure! What kind? The square kind. It wasn’t until I left Michigan that I realized it was unique to the area. Now I’m delighted to see Detroit-style pizza catch on so everyone can have the square kind!

I’m from the Detroit Metro area and we always called it deep dish pizza. Buddy’s is the only place I’ve seen that makes rows on top. Everyone else tops theirs like a traditional pizza-in layers. It’s all about the bottom crust though.

Detroit style is ssooo underrated! Fun fact about Buddy’s, they have also been making gluten free Detroit Style pizzas since the 90’s. Only 1 of 2 really good gluten free Pizzas. The other is from dun dun dun.... Detroit Style Pizza in St. Clair Shores just north of Detroit.

Have you ever been to Louie's in Hazel Park? I haven't been in a few years, but they were a spin-off of Buddy's and used to be pretty excellent. Plus, if you order a bottle of Chianti with dinner they let you write on the straw wrapping & they hang it on the walls when you're done.

I tried Buddy’s Pizza for the first time last November(I live in Cincinnati) when I was up there visiting the Henry Ford Museum. That was the best Sunday I had that miserable year. Best pizza I’ve ever consumed!

Corners are the best. Two of those extra crispy edges to gnaw on...🤤 Detroit style is my favorite style. Fresh out of Detroit!

I live near Detroit and my family has always gone to Buddy's as one of our favorite places ever and we had no idea they created the Detroit style pizza! So glad you loved it! The delicious crust is one of the best parts! Lots of people dip it in sauce if they need more :)

OMG, I just made this and it was AWESOME! We had to eat the whole thing, moaning in delight. I'm going to make another for Christmas but with spinach, olives and pepperoni! Emmy is the best!

It's my favorite style of pizza. It has the best of thin crust in the crispy edges, and deep dish in how well the center of the pizza holds up to copious toppings. It's the perfect pizza 😭

Oh my goodness this was fantastic!! ALDI sells dough already made so I used that and cut up mozzarella cheese with sharp cheddar and used marinara instead of crushed tomatoes. This is delicious yummy in my tummy pizza😍😍😍 Thank you for sharing 🤗

YESS!! SO happy to see this video. Detroit style deep dish is by far my favorite.. also living 20 mins outside of Detroit my whole life, working in the city for years. Ahhh. Just need a ice cold can of Faygo on the side! Red pop is my favorite but rock'n'rye is definitely proffered by most detroiters.

I used to say I didn't have a type when it came to pizza. I first tried Detroit style pizza at Via313 in Austin TX and I can officially say that Detroit style is my absolute favorite style of pizza lol

So happy to see you trying this out, some Love from Detroit. Funny, a lot of places around here who serve Detroit style started offering an option for corner lovers by using two half sized pans for a large so every slice is a corner piece. I hope you come visit us one day our food diversity here is incredible!

Detroit style is a really good way to make pizza. It always amuses me when New Yorkers and Chicagoans are at each other's throats about the "right" way to make pizza, meanwhile I get to enjoy this stuff in all its crispy, airy, square glory.

Emmy needs to try Green Lantern in Madison Heights, Loui's in Hazel Park, Primos Pizza in Oak Park.

I grew up with Buddy’s through the 80’s and 90’s, they were awesome! I moved away, but I still compare every pizza place to them.

I already know this pizza will be my family’s downfall. Fighting over the edges will tear us apart! 😩

That's why you buy the smaller 12' pans, and make a few all at the same time. 4 BIG slices of corners!!

this reminds of me the time when i used to work at a pizza place, we’d have to make like hundreds of these a day :) everytime i worked i never got tired of eating it bc i loveeddddd the crunch of it
