Homemade Cement Saw

My father and I fabricated a homemade cement saw using a 7hp gasoline motor, an old edger frame, and a cement saw head.

Nice build. I've considered something similar .

no need for adapter, just twist the one perpendicular prong with pliers to make it fit 15 amp

yeh it seems like it.. maybe a bigger pulley on the motor, increase torque, and reduce speed.

We did the the correct math and installed the right sized pulley to make sure everything is spinning at the correct rpm.

4" pulley @ 3600 driving a 2" pulley? ... would be around 7000 rpm. 14" blades are rated for about 5000. Never hurts to run slower than too fast.

Your blade oiler stopped working when you put that orange plug in.

Doesn't use anything to oil the blade. It's spinning fast enough it cools itself. We've never had a problem with the blade overheating.

It is dangerous. One attempting to design something that has already been built, it is advisable to look at what has come before you. Floor rolling concrete saws do not rotate that direction. It's been the other way, biting the blade into the ground with the cutting force. What you have made potentially a runaway disaster should that blade catch something and bounce out of its slot. Have to assume that the motor for the edger was dead, otherwise you would have been better off using it and the direction of rotation it originally had. If this thing is still around I'd be surprised it hasn't already had an accident.

Xavier it's not any more or less dangerous than any other cement saw. As long as you keep your hands and feet clear of the blade it's safe, just like any other saw.

Lark Sowell yeah but those other saws are engineered for specific rpm blade speeds. This thing is a death trap. Blade speed is easily over 3,000 rpm and most 14inch blades are regulated for 1,700 rpm. That thing is gonna fling off segments and or kill someone

But I do give y’all credit for the actual build. It’s cool that y’all attempted making one but y’all just need to be careful. Blade speed ain’t no joke

Xavier that's why we have such a large pulley at the crankshaft. I will say my father is the one that did the math for the rpms so that I don't know.
