    Honestly not a huge fan of this direction. The Boys was always a satire of American Corporatism and to a further extent idolisation. The reason Homelander was a piece of shit was because no one told him no, he was able to do whatever he liked, get whatever he wanted because he had nothing to hold him back. Greed corrupted him, this just humanises his backstory to making his outlook more relatable but removing the social commentary.

    I can see where you're coming from, but I do think it's important to understand the psychological aspects that lead people to become who they are. You can have both social commentary and psychological exploration in one, as long as it's handled well at least.

    @@t.rieper But the point was that the psychological reasons Homelander became what he is is because he has a disproportionate amount of power. It's literally the entire point of the comics. "If Superman existed, he'd likely actually be a huge piece of shit". They went with that angle first, but now are steering to try make Homelander more relatable by making his reasons for being the way he is completely up to his upbringing.
