My FAVORITE veggies to grow in the garden are PEPPERS!!! I have been searching for years for the PERFECT PAPRIKA pepper. Have I found the one?? ***** About Living Traditions Homestead *****
Living Traditions Homestead is all about living a simple and sustainable way of life. We believe the world has gotten too “busy” and that people are missing out on many of the true blessings this world has to offer. We started as a small urban homestead in Gilbert, AZ and after the city grew up around us, decided it was time leave corporate America and take a big leap of faith by moving our family to the Missouri Ozarks.
We put out 5 new videos every week! Tuesday through Saturday. We hope you will become part of our homestead family by subscribing to our channel and watching as we transition from city dwellers to full time homesteaders!

Hungarian Magyar Paprika Pepper has a sweet spicey flavour . Ideal for grinding.
Sarah, paprika is made from Marconi peppers. They look like the long tapered peppers laying on your table. Peppers made from Marconi peppers at home is said to make even better paprika than what you get from the grocery because it is much fresher. You may not be able to find them in a grocery store and may have to get the seeds from a specialty store.

Marconis are also great for roasting and putting in oil. Great sandwich or salad condiment.
Leutschauer Paprika Pepper, I got seeds from baker creek. This is a Hungary pepper for paprika so it has a kick to it. Great producer though. Paprika is usually a mix of good tasting peppers.
This was a great video! Funny story.. years ago hubs grew some habaneros and we dried them. Well, one night he decided to grind them in a little coffee grinder. 🤦♀️ He did it in our first floor mini kitchen. The rest of us were up on the main floor. Well, suddenly, we hear my hubs coughing, then he comes upstairs with his eyes all red and he looks like he was stung in the face! We all rush to the top of the stairs to see what’s wrong and we were hit with the cloud of habanero powder... I will never let him live that one down! 😂

I grew habaneros in a pot one year. Dry productive. My teenage son and his buddies decided to eat one raw. They were guzzling milk eating bread and rolling on the floor crying like babies. I warned them but they were he men and could take the heat. My daughter and husband and I got a good show and laugh out of it . One mom called me to complain about her sons eyes burning and his poor little lips. Please !! I warned them about the peppers and has to clean up the milk and bread mushy mess they made flailing around in my kitchen floor and bathroom floor. By the way they hurt coming out too. I told her to come over and help herself to some Drive By Peppers as my husband named them. Drive by your house holding one our the window and they spice up your face food and eyes nicely.

Celine Bridges I purchased my seeds from Baker Creek. I too smoke mine as Michael described. You can also pre-grind and place on a cookie sheet. Place the cookie sheet on the top level of your grill (in case you don't have a smoker) and leave for several hours at a low temperature. You can control the smokiness flavor by the amount of time left in grill.

I'm growing the Leutschauer peppers also! I've just harvested a few red ones. How spicy is the paprika after it's dried?
Next year you should make smoked paprika. It's my favorite!
I love your no nonsense way to putting food up. Informative without a ton of fluff and filler! Thanks.
The pepper you use and call paprika pepper we call tomato pepper. And actually in Slovenian pepper is called paprika (did I confuse you? Because I think that I just confused myself haha). Don't know about any pepper that would be the same as the powdered stuff you buy. But I have to say, that I love your channel. I just found it and since I have a diploma from college in agriculture and live on a farm it's nice to see someone who loves farming and growing vegetables just like I do :).
I love using the red and green jalapeños for Christmas gift cowboy candy!!! -Kristy
Thank you for sharing all those videos, I don't know why but it always makes me feel happy. Your whole Family is amazing and you explain everything so good that even I can understand it (sometime I'm dummy). Have a great time in the Garden and keep filming... Big hug from Switzerland.
Ostra-Cyklon Pepper & Leutschauer Paprika Pepper from your very own local Baker Creek ..... take care.
Milos, that posted below, mentioned Peppers to make AJVAR. It's a pepper spread they make... Try Elephant Ear Pepper,Donkey Ears, or Slovene Uvo. The peppers are thick walls, and are fantastic flavor!
You make it look so easy great advice on not breathing in the hot pepper powder thank you so much for your instruction I saved this video
I love this! I have never made my own seasonings but will have to plan to do so next spring season. This year my peppers were a big flop though I only grew bell peppers. Thank you for sharing all of your knowledge and experiences with us. I’ll remember that when working with the spicy peppers my toddler will need to be kept entertained elsewhere for safety.
Great video! I wish you would have filmed you vacuum sealing the jars. I haven't done that yet with any powders for fear of the powder being vacuumed out. Would love to see you do this.
as always a very informative video! Thanks for sharing your knowledge with us.
Hey Sarah 😊 Thanks you .. will add this to your pickled eggs recipe... great to add to salads .. yummy Blessing 👩🌾
I like jelly jars for my spices, either harvested from home or purchased at the Amish store. I put a recycled parmesean cheese lid on them (it has a shaker side and a spoon side). You could do that on just the jar you are using. I have them in a drawer next to my stove so I label the tops instead of the sides. I don't know how you would smoke paprika but, like other commenters, that is one of my favorite seasonings.

Sarah you have inspired me to dehydrate my food. You've certainly had an amazing crop this year!
I love seeing all you are harvesting. Thank you
That looks awesome!!!! Great job.... and we are looking forward to hearing more about your spice mixes! Thanks for sharing!!
Great to have all those beautiful peppers! Love dehydrating.
tomato peppers are whats used for hungarian paprika powder, which is in my opinion by far the best paprika powder. Great for smoking too. (there is a sweet and a bit spicy variety)
A beautiful sole Sarah & lovely family. It’s so nice to see & enjoy what you guys have had the courage to create. God bless you all. 💕
Awesome! I have been learning how to make my own seasoning blends. Looking forward to the ones you will share!
I didn’t know that ancho chili powder was from the poblano pepper! You taught me something 🦋💜
Your gardening videos are my favorites!
We love peppers, thanks for sharing how you preserve them. I have more peppers this year than ever before but next year still more peppers in my garden!!!
Sarah, get a staple puller and use it to bite the 4 holes in the peppers...so quick. I haven't tried it, but that popped into my head. Lol

That's the variety I am growing this year and am very pleased so far.
A good friend swears by the Leutschauer paprika pepper. We are going to try them out next season. I am going to include them in my next Baker Creek order and give them a try. I liked the description I read from Baker when I started researching them and I think that they will work out well for us. (From Baker Creek: "A lovely drying pepper that comes from Matrafured, Hungary. It has been grown there since the 1800s when it was brought from Leutschau (Slovakia). The medium-hot paprikas have great flavor, are terrific for drying, and make a delicious spicy powder. Very rare!") It's worth a shot. (-:

I really enjoy watching your videos. I am so glad I found your channel. You 2 do a really great job!!!! I have learned soooooo much!!!! Keep up the great job.
Random thought for next year - a meat tenderizer (one with needles) may help you poke holes faster. Multiples at once. Really enjoying watching your videos, even as someone who (while obsessed with food) lives a very different lifestyle. Thanks for sharing!
Y’all did really good! Very well done! Next year my wife and I are looking at growing a good selection of different peppers. We’ve grown Sandia Hot and Big Jim green chiles for years but it’s time to broaden our horizons. We wear gloves full time!
The paprika that tastes the best to me has been smoked. You can dehydrate jalapeno also, it's good for those that like there chilli a little warmer than everyone else in the house. Your red pepper powders, they should be kept in a dark place. The uv light will bleach that great red color... Nice video!
You may have already done this on your channel, but I would love to see your pantry and how you store all of the amazing things you grow. Thanks for sharing all of your knowledge and teaching me how to use things from the garden in ways I have not thought of!
So informative !!! You and your family are doing a Fantastic job !!
Such a great video!!! Very well done! TY I always learn something new from you!!!
Now that's how I like to get my own spices, from the garden and not the grocery store. Very Nice!
Wonderful!Thank you for sharing!
Thank you Sarah!
I just let my chiles dry on the counter. One of these days i hope to grow enough to make some beautiful braids to hang in my kitchen!
Love your show ❤ I've seen sweet Alma paprika seeds from Eden Brothers highly rated look forward to another episode 😀
I've had good luck with peppers in the past, so for me they are really fun to grow. I'm not always crazy about raw peppers, but dried and powdered, or in spice blends, that is exciting to me. So glad you are going into detail on your process and hopefully your recipes for any blends that you use. Good stuff.
Another great video! Thank you and God bless!
Just curious and am enjoying the comments. I have a friend who is from Hungry and the ones they grow in bulk to dry are not hot at all. Some large manufacturers add hot peppers to add into the sweet ones to sell. Plus they also told me that Paprika was brought from Turkey and not at all originally from Hungry but as with the spice trade of generations ago, that's the case with everything I guess.
Very cool! Always great to see what y'all are up to. Cheers!
I grew ozona peppers. Was impressed with the harvest and enjoyed them.
Enjoying the Chanel...:) thanks to both of you!
Sheepnose Paprika is getting planted in our garden this year.
Just love the pepper video. Good luck on the paprika mixture.
Good looking peppers!

Have you tryed using a "Corn holder" to poke with? 2 holes at a time!! With you being so lucky to live so close to Bakers Seed, they may can help you find a paprika pepper!

In my research for a paprika pepper. I came across the Aji Rico pepper.. in Hungry paprika is a main stay spice they use, and this pepper is recommended. Either smoked or not. Found some seed and will give it a go next spring.

It was great to see Grace helping out. Woohoo peppers dried. Oh ya👍
try threading the chiles on a peice jelery wire that was washed then smoke dyhiderate and grind
Those are going to make for some terrific spices! Thanks for such an informative video. We are still waiting for our peppers to turn red so we can do different things with them. Sometimes I just string them up and hang them to dry.

I did jalapeños and Serrano peppers for my homemade salsa. I slept with a ice pack in my hands for two nights before the pain went away but I could not feel any pain or anything else for almost two weeks. Salsa won grand champion at a Texas county Fair and I’m a little Arkansas girl born and raised on a home garden by my parents and grandparents.

How about a pantry tour?
Hey Sarah! I prefer hot paprika powder. My favorite is Hungarian Szegedi. I got the seeds from Adaptive Seeds.
I have one single Thunderbolt sweet pepper plant on my apartment balcony. We got 5 big, sweet, red to peppers off it earlier but the weather is becoming cold and I have an aphid problem. So, timing dictated that I just pull the 5 new green peppers. Got them washed, sliced, de-seeded, and in the dehydrator now. Tossed them in a bit of liquid smoke. Hoping they make a tiny batch of "smoked" paprika for topping some eggs. :) Thx for the walkthrough! Subbed.
Paprika is just made from sweet red peppers and you can smoke them if you like. I just love your garden.
Great video!
Awesome video

Great looking peppers! Lol...small full jars are more satisfying than a bigger jar half empty. Our dehydrator just quit heating on Monday. A lot of peppers left. Problem solving...it's the homestead way lol. Really looking forward to the spice recipes video 😊

You can try boiling the vinegar solution with the jalapenos in it before putting the eggs in. That might make the pickling solution spicier. Cool it though before putting the jar in the fridge.
