Home Theater Front Wall Transformation! (Part 4)

In the fourth installment of my Front Wall Makeover video series I will tackling the 6 DIY acoustic panels for the front wall, and then designing and building a customer stage with LED lights to sit on the floor, to finish off the room... or so I thought...

You come up with the best ideas! Foam board, now I know how I'm going to prototype my columns for my side speakers.

You're telling me! I'm a huge fan of Polk, so it sucks that they didn't deliver the sound I wanted. That being said... They did sound pretty good for the price, so if I wasn't coming from the amazing tower speakers that I had in my room, then I would have probably been totally happy with them. Hopefully the Focal speakers give me everything I'm looking for, once I have all 3 of them installed.

Dude, it's absolutely crazy how you really build everything from scratch. I'm not a movie guy but I was wondering, won't it hinder the sound having the speakers behind the screen?

Not really... you just bump up the db level for those 3 speakers in the A/V Receiver, to compensate for the loss of volume from passing through the screen. Just think of if like the fabric speaker grills that come on speakers, but just a little thicker.

And if you’re not familiar, it’s an acoustically transparent screen, woven material designed for this.

What did you use for fabric on these new panels... You said "Speaker Fabric".

It's from JoAnn Fabrics and I've used it a ton over the years and like it a lot. Here is the link: www.joann.com/utility-fabric-black-speaker-cloth/3514023.html

How tall is your ceiling in your home theater?

I'd say about "Not Shit" tall! Lol. It's only 6' 8" from the carpet to the drop ceiling, so I don't have much head room.
