Home on the Range with a Ruger No 1

This rifle returns home after nearly 50 years. I am working up a load for it and getting it zeroed for next years deer season.

I like Lyman reloading manuals. Especially thier Cast Bullet manual. I also like the Speer reloading manuals. But you can never have to many reference books.

Love your channel, especially when you're showing 50 year old No 1s. They glow in beauty.

Ohhh Dennis you have put together another good video. I like your whole setup and the patience it takes to work up the right load. Changed my handle again, But its still Carl on this end. Looking for the next one.. Take care.

No 1s can be finicky but when you find the right load recipe it’s so sweet , it’s a journey , love the No 1s

I have found them easy to work up up loads for IF, as in IF the barrel is free floated. Accuracy is very erratic otherwise. At least in all of the No 1’s that I have owned or worked with. And all of mine are earlier ones before Ruger made their own barrels. Perhaps I have just been lucky.

Great video Mr Pritchard. Beautiful gun, and great story. Good information about over powering scope.

One of the biggest mistakes that I see hunters making is way over scoping themselves. The least amount of power that you can use, that will still get the job done, is your best option. The lower the power the more versatile it is and the easier it is to hold on target. Not to mention the most important thing of all when hunting the woods is field of view. Thank you Sir for both watching and commenting. Dennis

This is the rifle I wanted when I started collecting No1’s. I still don’t have one. Several No 1 B’s and No 3’s but no 1A in God’s caliber (30-06). Still looking.

The No 1A, in 30-06, is a match made in heaven for sure. Don’t give up your hunt for one. That model-caliber combo is hard to beat, however I must say that the No 1RSI in 7x57 nudges out the 1A for me. Not by much for sure. A close race indeed. I feature the RSI 7x57 in a few videos but primarily the one titled “My Favorite Deer Rifle”. If you haven’t watched that one you might like it. Anyway, thanks for your comments and for watching. Dennis

@@dennispritchardoutdoors7882 Oh yes. I have watched it several times actually. I passed you along to a brother in law who just bought his first No 1 after seeing your videos and a couple of my rifles. He is hooked. The RSI is the most elegant of them all. One in any caliber would work but the 7x57 would come in first slightly over a 257 Bob and 6.5 Swede. One day the 30-06 in 1A and any caliber in the RSI. All that would be missing for me would be a an H or Tropical in 375 H&H or 458 Winmag. Again, thanks for the videos.

Can you get IMR powders anymore? I understand Hodgen bought out DuPont powders but is the new powder really the same?

Powders can vary lot to lot, but basically everything is still the same as far as I can tell.
