Home Movies Ending (Brendon's Camera Edit)
Фильм және анимация
This is the final scene in the 1999 Adult Swim cartoon series Home Movies. The original ending has the standard guitar outro but I extended the previously playing song "Brendon's Camera." The original end theme shifts the tone away, making the ending a bit less dramatic and more Saturday night cartoon.

When I watch this show as a teenager while it was originally airing, I liked to imagine that Brandon grew up to be a successful film Director. Re-watching the show as an adult, I realized that would never be the case. That wasn’t what the show was really about. He was using filmmaking as a way to cope with a weird time in his life. Later, when Brendan had a cameo as an adult working at a blockbuster on the show, Clarence, that felt much closer to the reality of Brendan‘s life. At the very least, I hope that later on in his life, maybe in his late 20s or 30s, he found a way to engage with his love of film. Even in a small way, like teaching a community college course on film, appreciation, or having a movie night with his friends. Just because your childhood passion doesn’t become a career doesn’t mean it has to disappear forever.

Everything you just said must be cannon.
In the commentary for this episode they openly say that the credits cutting to the generic theme was an oversight. Thanks for this edit, it's very likely how they would have intended it to be.

This is how it should have ended. The camera breaking, them moving cause of the explosion and the music give the sense of change and growing up, moving on from that part of stage of life and maybe each other too now that they don't have movies to do together. The ending always breaks me from such a simple cartoon ❤️
the death of the childhood dream
Now thats how its done. Perfect ending.
Man, it's been six years since I first saw this show. And to hear the finale edit like this? It hits home.

home movies is def why we have smiling friends and i really hope they do a nod at some point. this was really the pioneer for real adult animation but it was just ahead of its time

The camera was around longer, I saw someone say Brendon got it as a young child.
I cried dawg this series ending broke my heart thanks
Arguably the best animated show ever made.
This was such a specific thing that bothered me lmao thanks for the edit, makes it feel so somber
It always bugged me that it cut to the normal intro music, like it didnt want to acknowledge the fact it was the last episode
Damn. Makes this so much more somber and meaningful
Thank you for making this edit. That final scene always felt weird when it jumped to the main theme.
"Men don't cry or feel anything" The men who cried when the camera cut out to the credits unedited: *are we a joke to you*
I'm a man and I can admit I got a little teary when I saw this ending. Such a great show that ended the right way with memories of so much laughter.

Thanks for the edit. This helps me feel less sad. Like the show could finally speak to us as a true finale to the very end.
Dude I felt the exact same way when it jumped the music at the end just now, this is awesome!
People really dont realize how ahead of its time home movies really was lol, glad we are finally getting more adult cartoons that arent family guy 2
OK now I see why they used the other music for the credits 😭
Looking back at these episode I’m sure some extra comedy was added but I’m quite sure these were mostly just his childhood.
Thank you for fixing the ending
Actually... when I watched this on Adult Swin ON DEMAND back in the mid 2000's, they had the Brendon's Camera ending. I am not making this up. I got to experience the ending like this the first time I saw it. I am not sure why the version that aired on TV had the theme song cut, but adult swim did have this version on their on demand service through comcast.
Thank you for this video
thanks to the maker of this video, really :)
Their movies are good. Those should be watched no matter how weird they are.
Thank you.
They had the sunset theme and they had Brendans camera theme
i just finished binging the credit ending was sooo weird thank you for fixing

Brendon got his camera during his parents divorce so it became a coping mechanism for him. He would make movies as a way to fulfill his emptiness but now he's found friends, has a good relationship with both of his parents apart, and has grown up. He no longer need the camera to escape from his life, so it breaks and he moves on
