Home Maintenance: Unclog a Dual Vanity Sink.

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

An average single sink is fairly easy to unclog even if you have to resort to an auger. However, a dual vanity sink is a whole different situation. If you have a clogged dual vanity and haven't been able to unclog it, here's a solution.
Ridgid 58895 Drop Head Auger: $130.77.

Im thankful for this.. i asked a plumber to check :unclogging my dual vanity sink. Told us he needs to make an access on our dry wall and the cost estimate was $750. I was desperate i started to google any solution for my problem. I found this video and took a risk of buying the drop down rigid snake on Amazon. Twas hard at first the tip just kept going to the other side of the pipe. Finally i placed i wood thats big enough to block the snake and it went down... Saved a lot of money for it cost around $140 vs $750 and with out the hassle of breaking my dry wall. Again thanks for the video

After purchasing the Ridgid drain cleaner snake with drop head cable, model#58895, for approximately $160 it worked. It was not easy to get the head tip to drop into the PVC connecting the two sinks. I also used a 1 inch mirror with an extension that I bought from the auto parts store. I placed the mirror in the opposite sink's PVC and then shined a very strong flash light to help me see the hole that I wanted the cable to go in. The job was completed in less then three hours. Thanks for you help.

You could have just bought the $30.00 or even 20.00 hand snake and bent the end of snake down a couple inches. And boom bang drop head.

Exactly. $12 Husky 15 foot drain snake, bent the head to about 80 degrees, and just wait for it to drop into the vertical drain, and twist away. Unclogged in 10 minutes. Don't spend $100 or $150 or more until you try bending the end of a traditional snake.

This worked for me….the key is to bend as well as use a drill to rotate at moderate speed to give it the best chance to hit the drain instead of coming out to the other sink….great comment….was about to give up before I read this….coprish

i recently unclogged by dual vanity with drop-head auger. I read in a blog to rotate snake counter clockwise and it worked. Once you feel the head hit the shared drain pipe, bring it back a little and then turn it counterclockwise while you advance the snake

Make sure to not let the snake chew up the plastic pipe or you may no longer be able to get a water tight seal. Maybe put a rag under the snake.

I have a Gehan Home in Fort Worth, Texas. They cut has many corner possible corners as possible in building their homes. I have dual vanity sink the drain pipes and P-traps are clear. So the drain pipe drain is where the clog is and of course being cheap thy did not put a clean out trap. What this means they are going to have to tear out the dry wall to get access to it; no I am not a plumber. So i expect this is going to cost a bunch on money.

Drop heads are a pain! I'd much rather cut the vent and install a cleanout if possible.

Does anyone know where I can get a self feeding hand held auger with a drop head where a drill can be attached to for sinks and bathtubs.

Is it normal for some water to leak in the adjacent room? My dual sink bathrooms pipes are all ckear but they are still clogged. I used a plunger still nothing .. i opened up all the pipes and they were all clean. I noticed some damp carpet in the room next to the bathroom . Any thoughts?

Hey. I had the same problem, the auger came out the other sink. BUT I DID UNCLOG IT!!!! So, I didn't have plunger, but I used a pump I use to inflate kitesurfing kite. I plugged one sink, and then connected the house from pump on the other sink while the sink and drain was filled with water. After a minute or so, it just let out and drains were cleaned!!! Now I'm running bunch of water through to push whatever I unclogged down further to sewer.

How do you know if hit the clog? I got one of these but at best buy for under $30 and alot of hair was on the end of the augier. Plus alot of black stuff came up. Do I put the augier back down and keep turning it? Feels like I hit a pipe or something? Thanks and thanks for the video.

You can either put the pipes back together and run some water or somehow plug the side you're working on under the sink and run water in the other sink.

@@BBStudioProductions When I took the pipe off the metal piece from the drain(at the top) came with it so I have to replace them. The way the people put my drain and sinks in is terrible. So yes blocking the one is the best idea thanks.

its not gonna cost $400 to fix the problem, a reputable drain cleaning company would charge you NO more than $150 to cable something like this! It's not hard, you put a bend on the end of your cable/snake and feel for the drop, once you get to the drop stop the machine and push against it, then run the machine while you keep pressure on your snake, not difficult as long as you know what's going on.

The charge depends a lot on your location. $150 in your area, $400 in some, $500+ in other area.
