Home Made Gold Trommel Wash Plant. Nuggets!

This video is part of a "Gold Mining and Mineral Prospecting " course. In this video I am explaining and showing my students how a Trommel works as we run a few buckets of material from one of my claims. This small wash plant uses a trammel to classify the material before it runs through a sluice to recover the gold.

I am down in Washington and have multiple sluices/highbankers dredges and so on and wanted to know what you thoughts were on the le trap sluice. I currently am using it as a highbanker cause the gold im getting is all 1/8" minus seems to work well. Just curious though. Thanks for the awesome and informative vids!!

    Can't you get rid of the black sand using a big magnet?

  • @Danhurd

    @Danhurd

    8 жыл бұрын

    Yes, but no. Unless your are ultra careful and do it in stages, a magnet pulls a lot of gold with the black sands. Not that the gold is magnetic. Just that as the black sand is being pulled out it mechanically grabs some of the gold and takes it with it.

    One question, how do you catch nuggets with this? Or are the so rare it would be pointless making a nugget trap?

  • @Danhurd

    @Danhurd

    8 жыл бұрын

    +Axeman02 Usually I use a metal detector over the tailings pile. A 1/2" nugget would set off the detector from a long ways off. Unfortunately this did not work here at school. We found after the fact, that the asphalt I spread the tailing over, was loaded with metal. even with iron discrimination on I could not get a clean signal. After thinking about it, I realized they must have run many electrical conduits under that section.
