HOME IS WHERE THE HEART IS: Family Reunion in Tuscany, Italy

This week is a sentimental tribute to my family and a reunion at our home in Tuscany. I also wanted to share with you a dialogue questioning how we can better serve all ages, all members of a family by living together and supporting each other through different phases of life. It's not easy, even for my family, but it does seem to make a lot of sense. What do you think?

Every day I get so many emails and comments asking why you can’t locate the music I use or find it using Shazam. I purchase music licenses for almost all the music you hear in my videos. I buy them them from various royalty-free production music sites and most of the time they don’t list the performer because it’s music made only for film productions with an audio watermark throughout the entire track, unless you purchase the single-use license for $50-100 per track. I use a lot of opera so often I’ll reference the opera but I won’t be able to direct you to a recording of that specific performance that you could stream or buy on iTunes or Spotify. Hope that clears things up and thank you for appreciating quality music.

For the last ten and a bit years we have lived in a multi generational home here in New Zealand. We bought a property together with our son and daughter-in-law as I was taking care of their baby boy while they both worked. The baby, our youngest of seven grandchildren, is now 11 and it still works well. My husband is now retired and takes care of our three acre property while I do whatever is needed. We get on well. It CAN work in this day and age, folks!

This made me cry. I grew up seeing my grandparents and cousins all time, sharing home cooked meals, not just during the holidays but almost every Sunday, and it was lovely. Unfortunately in today's busy world that is becoming more the exception than the rule, but so glad to see some us still supporting these traditions. Thanks so much for sharing!

I’m going to allow myself a moment of the sense of loss…. I have no village around me, everything I do is on my own. I am so lucky because I happened to be in a good marriage with my husband, who loves or six-year-old and me desperately … but our parents are elderly With dementia or passed away, we have no extended family around us and my husband is working seven days a week at the moment, leaving at 5 o’clock in the morning and coming in past eight at night…. I ache to have family like this. You are a beautiful soul Kylie and it was a pleasure to watch. ❤❤❤

This video especially touches me at this time in my life. Three years ago, after my husband cared for his father at the end of his life, our son and daughter in law came to us with a proposal: would we sell the home in which he and his sister were raised, invest with them to build a new home for both of our families? My husband is an architect and we set about designing a home that would give us both our spaces and still enable our grandsons to run down a hall and be in our home as well. Our son and daughter in law wanted their boys to be raised in an extended family, in daily contact with with their grandparents--just as his father had been. We will 'stay young' and age in place. So we've sold the family home, and moved in with them while our new joint home is being built. In the mornings they wake us by jumping in our bed, asking for a story. Next year, they will be able to run down a hallway to our side of our home, sit in my kitchen, cuddle on our sofa, or come and sneak snacks their parents may not know about. We will share a garden, a pool, an outdoor kitchen, share our lives and have privacy when we need it. The planning has brought us joy and we feel as though the circle is being completed. We feel honored to be able to do this, live this, as a family.

I’m in my late 60’s, I grew up in a large family. My parents had a two family home . Our grandparents lived with us. After my grandfather passed , my parents bought a single family home in the countryside near the sea. My grandmother lived with us. The lessons shared , the knowledge shared, the traditions passed on were invaluable. They shaped in many ways who I am. Sundays was the day for sharing meals , fun and laughter. Yes there were sad , difficult times but what still keeps us all going through life is the one constant. Family . This was a beautiful video and so important. Thank you.

This is wonderful. I grew up with my aunts, uncles, cousins, grandmother and great grandmother close by and or across the street and I attribute that to my well being at age 72. Spending Christmas Eve with all of them was the highlight of my year. I had all the things you mention here and it’s really all that matters. As a grandmother now, I live far from my grandchildren now, and I desperately want them to know and remember me as long as they live and have stories to tell about times spent with their grandparents. So important.

But the memory of their undying love for their Grandchildren lingers forever in our hearts . We had a large estate with horses and gardens . Dad was always helping with chores while Mom would prepare a delicious meal for the table . Mealtime was glorious . Always candlelit and full of conversations… laughter …and endless stories !! My … we were blessed. . Your beautiful video today stirred up all of those memories Kylie . Thank you never seems enough when it comes to your cinematic wonders . Such a beautiful homage to families Kylie! Some of us never had a chance with having this type of gorgeous family get-togethers, as children, nor as adults (at least not yet). At 56 years old, I fully intend on continuing to enjoy my grandson and "soon to-be" granddaughter and be there for them as well as my adult children. I believe that I have a bigger mission in my life and the dysfunction stops here. I hope that I can be an example to my children and grandchildren that change is okay and I walk into each day now with gratitude and appreciation, and your creative films give me hope, caress my heart and put a big smile on my face.

Loved this video... mostly because it reminded me of my situation... My husband and I bought a 5 acre piece of property in the middle of our city many years ago and built houses on it... EG: The main house & the Coach Houses. Together with our sons and their wives and children live together in perfect harmony! FAMILY IS A BEAUTIFUL THING... We "help" raise our grandees along side the parents. We have five sons, 5 daughters-in-law and 15 grandchildren. We all love and enjoy each other. Although we are a rare thing it certainly can be achieved when desired. Bless You!!

Oh Kylie I loved this one! You showed something that I long for...oh to live a life rich like that! Surrounded by family, those you love! Lately I have just been longing for those days, as a child...with all my 11 siblings...working together, cleaning the yard on the farm where we grew up. Everyone pitching in, working hard and enjoying how beautiful it looked when we were done. Not too long ago a bunch of us surprised our oldest sister, surprised her and showed up to her place early in the morning and built her 2 large decks on her home. It was fun to have nieces and nephews taking part. We recently had a chance to do that once again...only this time we gathered together at a sisters place to help her out...did a big yard clean and weeded her LARGE garden...she wasn’t feeling well and died a few months later from cancer. But it was such a beautiful time together...everyone working together and extending our deep love for our sister and our family. Thank you for such a beautiful tribute, here, to all of that...its truly the best part of our world! 💞

We have enjoyed helping the parents by watching kids, sharing meals, going to kid’s activities and sports events, helping to carpool …..really, anything they need. It has been so wonderful to share in the grandkids lives from birth to at this point my beautiful 17 year old granddaughter. I know how lucky I am. Many of my contemporaries either live far away from their kids/grandkids or do not have a good relationship with them. Your son is getting so big….he will be running across your yard any day now!😂

Oh my goodness Kylie, this is the most beautiful video I've ever seen. Everything about it had my heart filled to overflowing. I'm writing this with tears in my eyes. You are living my dream. My husband and I always dreamed of winning the lottery and building a compound for the family. I love to see you savor this time in your life. We often (myself included) constantly look ahead to the next stage of life. We don't realize how quickly these moments will be distant memories. Just as it said in the beautiful song you played "like sand drifting through our hands ". Thank you for the reminder to enjoy every stage of life. I wish you had been around when my children were babies. What a wonderful gift for your son to watch one day and see how life was truly meant to be lived. ❤

This is lovely. In my case I returned to my home after thirty years abroad and was priced out of the property market. I would love to live near my daughter and grandson but have to be content with a two plus hour train ride there and back to visit them. It’s heartbreaking. I’m glad for you that you have the space to host all of your family members together. ❤❤❤

Beautiful said. I have 7 kids, two grown and married with children of their own on the way, my oldest at home is 16, while the youngest is only 8. We live together with my parents, and it is such a blessing. One answer to making multigenerational living possible is sharing religious culture. Faith in God demands that we love one another selflessly, demands reconciliation, and kindness, etc... I'm very thankful I was raised that way, and even though I strayed in my younger years, I came back home to a faith that is such a sound foundation, and it feels safe.

So beautiful & moving Kylie. Despite the distance of your family it is precious to see you reunite and have such joy & love. I live in Australia with 4 adult kids & grandies in 3 different states which can be so hard. But we remain close thankful for FaceTime and when we gather a few times a year it’s wonderful. This video encourages me that despite the miles there can still be deep love ❤️

I just love watching your video,s . I used too live in Melbourne and one of my best friends was your Auntie Sally we would go listen out once a week shop and coffee and lunch . She ended up living over in the next street from as we,d spend afternoons doing craft together. We moved away too South Australia where my eldest daughter lives . Sally and I lost contact for a while we are back communicating again and we speak every couple of weeks .Just loving her back in my life again . She had a photo of herself when young on the Mantle piece I saw this year's ago . You look a lot like that photo.

So beautiful Kylie seeing your family together & so true all that you said. Giofranco is indeed a happy baby. I am blessed as I live 5 minutes from my daughter, her husband & my 2 grandchildren 8 & 5. His parents live 15mins away & sister & her family same. I'm very involved with them see them 2- 3 x week & talk on the phone often. The other grandparents do the same & we all get together for all family celebrations including little holidays. My siblings all live in New Zealand & we communicate on & off. So I'm grateful we have this love in our lives. God is love & He says He we never leave us or forsake us so people should call upon Him, He has all the answers the world needs

So beautiful! You are so blessed to have that strong family bond and Gianfranco will indeed benefit from these family moments! His glorious laugh says so! 😊 I am reminded of these same moments with my parents when my son was growing up. My son is 21 now and both my parents passed away a few years ago, but I have sweet memories of sitting around the table having mealtime conversations and beautiful outings. Enjoy all of these wonderful family moments! ❤
