live in Kentucky drive through West Virginia alot, I always play it driving through Charleston

By slowing the song down, it adds a melancholy feel to me, a wistfulness for home. I'm not from WV but this does make me miss my hometown and the country roads I grew up on. And yes, I cried a bit. Still get goosebumps from the harmonies.

They kick butt on this new album. There's 10 originals and 2 covers. If you loved this, and it pulled on your heart-strings, check out an original written by Tim called 'Remember This' or their cover of Vince Gill's 'Go Rest High On That Mountain'. Both brought me to tears, for different reasons, and I'm not one to tear up easily. They are just soooo good. Thank you to both of you, for another fantastic reaction. I love watching your reactions, always so spot on and real.

Guys, that was by far the best opening reaction I have ever seen!!! Emotions, raw and pure, love it! That's what music is supposed to do for us! I do that all the time and mostly with these guys than any others! Thanks so much. Incredible isn't it? The slowing down brought out emotion in this beautiful song I never felt before in the faster version. And harmonies!? Who does them any better than our Home Free?! Thanks so much.

I always tear up a little when I hear it even though the song itself makes me happy, cause I can't tell you how many times I sang this with my grandparents. They had their own professional country duet for years before I was born. By the time I could go with them, it was mainly at community and senior centers, but it was so cool singing with them. If we would have had youtube in those days I think they might have done it, and my uncle would have definitely done it. He won runner up on, I think, Nashville star when it first hit in the late 70's (I was born in 78, so I don't think I was here yet, or I was itty bitty, but you can see my mom and grandma in the audience if you find the segment) I've been trying to locate the song cause the guys would sound amazing, as always. Thumbs up.

They're just as good live! They appeared at a charity concert for my university after it got wrecked by a tornado during Spring Break last year. (Thankfully no casualties)

Y'all need to watch a WVU home crowd, football or basketball, sing this song. You can even hear the harmony in some versions, and there's just something about that many actual West Virginians singing this song that makes it extra special.

It took the guys a couple of years to come up with this arrangement because the song is so revered by country fans. But I agree, I think it was long overdue and perfect!

If you haven't seen them live yet, and you get the change, go! The seats shake when Tim hits the low notes and they have a lot of fun with the audience. It made me cry. My dad was born there and I would visit for a month every other year. Now all I can do is watch videos of West Virginia and dream of moving there.

I'm not crazy about their version of it but I recognize their talent for sure. One of my favorite songs of all time though.

I think one emotional manipulation right at the beginning is at the end of the intro, when that "Ooo" chord stops except for the top note, which continues into the verse. It really sets you up for Tim Foust's "Almost heaven." Another, I think, is the beautiful dissonant chord on the "er" syllable of "Shenandoah River." What is that--a major ninth?
