Музыка

In this uncertain time, there are so many brave people teaching us each day about real sacrifice. Thank you to those who are sacrificing their strength for others because they don't have enough of their own. This song is for you.

I was an 11 year old boy in 1966 comin home from school. I put the key in the lock , opened the door and there was my big brother Gerry on the bed watchin Superman . He just got done with basic and advanced training as a member of the 173rd Airborne . He was shipped out to Vietnam one week later. He gave me a big hug and I was so happy 2 see him. One year later a big black car / limousine came 2 pick me and my family up 4 a ride. All I remember after that was a flag draped casket, 21 gun salute and a bug L er blowing Taps. Gerry was being laid 2 rest with full military honors. I dedicate this song 2 Gerry and his Co N rades who paid the ultimate sacrifice , Nov.21,1867 DakTo vietnam.Vietnam., Hill 875.Fifty five years later that 11 year old boy is now 66. This video hit me in ways that you just don't know! I hope that my big brother Gerry, " my hero"., is resting peacefully with his buddies from the 173rd on that mountain above! Thank You guys Godbless! Note : The date above 1867 is incorrect of course. The correct date is 1967.

Don't hold them back when he crosses your mind. It's ok to cry. Just don't dwell upon that he is no longer beside you physically. He will always be with you. Every time you look in the mirror, he is right there staring back at you. Every time you use a skill, he taught you, he will be right there watching you and smiling at your mastery of that skill. As long as you remember those you love, they are never truly gone. ❤

I wish to thank this group for their hurt-felt songs. I happen to be a three time Vietnam Veteran that had lost hope and didn't expect to return home. I left for war in ChuLai in 1966,.Then returned in 1967 and stayed over into 1968 to serve in the Hue/PhuBai area during the Tet offensive. Only to return again to Danang in 1969 for several months prior to my discharge. Shortly after my discharge my Bay girl passed away of crib death and I suffered for many years. Now, at 75, I have finally found some piece. With a great deal of help of my mental condition. I have regain feelings and emotions and thoroughly enjoy the heart felt music of this group. Beautiful rendition. I wish, however, just once, that somebody would do this song and apply it to people other than veterans. I have the ultimate respect for people who serve, and I’m grateful for their sacrifice. But this song is about struggling in life through pain, and then finally coming to rest. As an abuse survivor, myself, I have identified with this song ever since I first heard it performed by Vince Gill. And now, that I’m battling a terminal illness, this song is even more poignant for me than before. I would love to see somebody do a video of this song that pays tribute to all of those who suffer other types of pain in life- mental, physical, emotional, etc., and eventually find their moment of rest when they cross through the veil and return home. Regardless, this is another beautiful rendition. God bless our troops! ❤

My son has been fighting a heart defect his entire life. 4 open heart surgeries, and multiple hospital admissions and other minor surgeries. September 2019 he had his final surgery along with a pacemaker placement right before his third birthday. He was given a 75 percent chance of making it to his 5th birthday. Recently he suffered his second minor stroke and right now I am praying that he doesn't contract this virus because it would be deadly for him. I have been planning a life for him and his funeral his whole life. This song is what I had picked out for him because the lyrics resonate so deep with me. This version is the version I would pick. Thank you so much for this song! You did an awesome job and God Bless you All!

i do not wish to take away from those that have served and sacrificed for all of us. this song means something entirely different to me than what most take it to mean. for me, it is a celebration of my mother's journey through this life, and testament to her fight against not only cancer, but the tragedies she faced. a testimony to her never-ending battle to be her best self, to overcome her weaknesses and live her life as the best version of herself....i buried her six years ago and i still cannot keep the tears from flowing when i try to sing this song for her...i do not have the heart to let it ring out.....i want so badly to be able to sing this with all my heart for her, yet i fall to pieces at the first line...she suffered so much long before cancer got it's hooks into her. my mother's life was far from prosperous and she persevered throughout it all. she was used, abused and treated as an object for so many years...she overcame, she grew and she taught my siblings and i how to be decent, kind human beings....and i never got the chance to repay her, to show her that all her effort paid off....i never got to prove to her that all her suffering was not for nothing. i never got to take care of her as she cared for me....i hate that i have to be the person to say "if only she could see me now". i took too long to grow up, i wasted the time i had with her....but she was unique and precious, she was sigularly special. her life serves as an example, i learn from her every single day. i am now 30 years old and i cannot help but miss my mommy....i hate it so much....but i cannot deny the reality of it.

I know I'm a little late to the party here, but I can't listen to this and not say my piece. I am not an emotional person, but I'm not ashamed to admit that I'm crying as I type this. Y'all are so talented and convey so much emotion in y'all's voices that it brings this song home. I've heard so many versions of this great song, but this has now become my favorite by far. Paired with the video, it makes my soul ache in the best possible way. Please never stop making these beautiful, haunting songs. I would also ask that, with July fourth being just over a week away, remember all those who have laid down their lives in service of our country and the people who live in it, and never forget their bravery and courage in the face of insurmountable odds. Thank y'all so much for this, and God bless.

He listened to it several times over the years. When he had a heart attack, he started listening to it several times a day until a second heart attack took him a month later. It was like he was giving himself permission to go in peace. 😢

Just found your group tonight. This is the second song I listened to. I'm a vet with over 20 years service. Have had friends and family who made the ultimate sacrifice in service and several who could not longer fight their demons after coming home. Wondered many times why them and not me. Right now it's so I can remember them and honor them as you have done for so many with your music. Thank you.

#GrumpyOldSailor Tell their stories, and tell your own, to friends, family, and anyone who will listen. I buried my father 16 years ago this month, and my one true regret is that I did not record his stories about his service in WW2, while he was alive. He was a AAA gunner and later a combat engineer, and I loved to listen to his stories of the war and his little part in it. People need to hear about those little parts, as that's what makes up the bigger story. I choke up every time I hear this song, no matter who sings it, as it always reminds me of him. Thank you, sir.

when Vince Gill released this song, it hit me very hard. I had, as a soldier, sent way too many good men home under the flag. it also burned with images of my father, who after surviving Viet Nam, fell to cancer after almost 3 years fighting it. I had talked to my son about having that be played at any services when my time comes. after hearing this version, with the inclusion of Amazing grace, and the superb harmonizing, I talked to him again, and said no, THIS is the version I want played at any services held for me. I honestly believe this is your finest song to date.

As one of 12 children, my dad had 5 older brothers that served in the military at one time or another. The younger one never served. The only one I know details about off the top of my head is the youngest of the first five. I know he served in Vietnam and I think he was a paratrooper in the Army. As for this video, I had to play it twice cuz as soon as the harmonies started on the chorus, I was absolutely in tears and couldn't concentrate. They were so beautiful. Even though four of the five older brothers are now gone, I am happy to say none of them died in combat and they made it home. My heart goes out to the families of so many who didn't. When I rewatched this, I cried more when I understood the theme. Personally, the original Vince Gill version of this song is so special to me. I can't remember if I sang with them, but my mom played this on guitar while my sisters and a few cousins sang it at my paternal grandfather's funeral by request of my grandmother. For quite a while after, I couldn't listen to it without crying. I don't remember if it was performed live again or if a recording of the song was played, but it was included in that same grandmother's funeral a little over 9 years later. As if remembering that wasn't sad enough, I was at her place in federal housing with several other relatives when she was close to her time. I was in her living room watching tv and in some form or another, Vince singing this song came on. I'm not sure if the song was over, but if it was, it wasn't very long after that when one of the others came to tell me my grandmother had passed. I came across a video on KZread a while back that was a report on a brand new third verse to the song. I can't remember all of the new words, so if you're a fan of the Vince Gill version like I am, I encourage you to look it up. I do know they are beautiful words.

I've been listening to this song for years. So in this difficult month. My partner passed away unexpectedly three years ago. He was then sixty. Finally he had the peace that he did not have here on earth. This song makes me cry every time. Home Free sings it with so much emotion. Especially Rob's voice. Because even though I love all the voices of Home Free, I don't know why, but with Rob there is always a special feeling through my whole body. Sometimes it gives me goosebumps. And not just with this song. Also many compliments to the other members of Home Free. You guys are just too great. Please, stay together forever. You are so unity. The harmonies, the inhuman beatboxing, the background, the high and low notes, the choral sounds etc etc.

I'm reminded of my great-grandmother when she took me to her older brother's memorial, how she still wept for him even after all those years. He died in the Battle of Bulge while holding off the enemy so his men could escape. "I'm gonna lay down my sword and shield /Down by the riverside/I'm gonna study, study, war no more". I can't wait for the day that good people no longer have to die this way.

My nieces mother passed away just over 2 months ago. She od'd and wasn't a good person, she hurt my girls in unimaginable ways. In 2002 our sweet Madelyne was taken from us at just 5 months old. I've mourned her for 18 years. The mother is one and the same, and upon her death I only felt relief for my girls, they could finally heal and move on. But listening to this song, I shed tears for this horrible woman who inflicted such pain and misery on three beautiful girls. I'll never forgive you for what you did April, but I will wish you peace now that you're resting high on that mountain.

I tried to listen to this song...couldn't make it through the chorus. Started crying. This song was dedicated to my dad (a life long truck driver) when he passed away...and I haven't been able to hear it since. *Edit: 1 year later...purchased tickets to go see and meet you guys this April 2022. So I figured I should try and listen to this song...since it may be on the set list. I made it all the way through....bawling my eyes out the entire time. So fair warning. If this song is on the set list for your show on April 17th in Montréal Canada, and you hear some lunatic whaling in the crowd....that's just me.

My father has always been my greatest hero. I have witnessed this quiet, humble, God fearing man accomplish superhero feats. Big and small. From saving a life when everyone else was frozen in fear. To helping a person on their worst day, find the courage to face another sunrise, when they really didn't want to. He helped raise millions of dollars for inner city youth to live dreams that they didn't even know they had. And become people that they never thought that they could be. He helped mold lives by working 17 years as the director of a Boy's & Girl's Club in the very poverty surrounded neighborhood that he was raised in. Leading by example day in and day out. I wanted to be just like him. He is the reason that after high school I stood on those yellow foot prints at M.C.R.D. San Diego and earned my eagle, globe and anchor. And became the only other member in our entire family, which proudly represents every branch of the military, to join the United States Marine Corps. You see my father isn't just my Dad, he is my brother in arms. I grew up watching him affect lives around him by simply following his heart and remembering and living the lessons taught to him by his father. His father served with distiction as a Sargent Major in the United States Army. Grandpa fought during the Korean War, Dad fought in Vietnam and I did my job during Operation Desert Storm/ Desert Shield. But my Dad's greatest accomplishment was marrying a woman that is his best friend and raising a very unique family. I am the eldest of 8 boys. All of us adopted. We all have different beginnings but we are brothers by the same love and teachings. I am the only one of my father's sons to serve in the military. From the very first time that I heard Vince Gill sing this song I knew that it would play at my father's funeral. Which has yet to be held by the way! But a more appropriate portrait and honor could not be found for such a hero as the man that forged my path in life. Thank you Homefree for your beautifully moving cover of an extremely special song for a very proud son to his real life hero. Semper Fi Dad.
