My wife and I were fortunate enough to be at one of their live shows the year that they released this... In a convention hall built for around 1000 people, the audience gave the call back and they entered the stage, stood around a single mic stand and waited for the audience noise to die down. Total silence as they began, first with no power to the mic, their voices carried softly through the room. The audio crew slowly increased the volume as the song went on... It was magical. For a full minute after the song ended, the silence continued and then the applause - no whistles, hoots, calls - just applause and wet eyes. I'm tearing up now just remembering it.

Chance just has the warmest airy feeling to his voice - it just always feels warm and familiar - Brothers in Arms is amazing with Tims richness and Chances airyness

Home Free has the best 5 part harmonies of any a cappella group. They know each other so well that they can blend their voices perfectly. Each of them has a unique sounding voice but when they come together it is awesome.

You have to listen to Home Free's version of the song, "Cover Me Up". Adam Chance sings lead for the whole song. And, make sure to watch to the very end for a surprise.

I could nerd out for hours with you about this particular Home Free song. Chance at the end..omgosh. There is a grittiness in his voice and smoothness that makes your heart just clench up. (That crunchy bass he does is so cool..almost like natural static when he holds those lower notes.) It's an announcement, a tribute and a farewell. Home Free are masters of telling a whole story even in simple songs like Auld Lang Syne. . There's so much there. Adam Rupp doing those falsetto hooo notes throughout puts him once again in the holding the seams together role. That man swallowed a xylophone and maybe a harp to go with his drum kit in there. Also, I am betting every chord in that song is a perfect Arpeggio. I've noticed when Adam Rupp sings that they complete the entire scale of Arpeggios. I kind of want to hear them do the entire piano lesson book☺🙂 Happy New Year!

Home Free ... what a perfect way to start the new year ... these guys are just too good !!!

Goosebumps. And I've heard this song millions of times.

The unison quick pause between "We'll take a cup" and "of kindness yet" is SO good and underappreciated.

It may sound strange but Rob. Austin and Adam Chance have such kindness in their voices, that they really warm the heart. It made me feel quite tearful that these men should use their high level of vocal artistry to give us something that we all need at New Year, a sort of spiritual hug. Bless them and their loved ones, wishing them every success in the year ahead. And all good wishes to you too, dear Jen, in every project you undertake in 2023, but hoping that you'll still be reacting in your inimitable way to Home Free. I also hope of course that we'll be able to see you and them collaborate while they're over here.

This is one of my favorites with Chance singing. It is heartbreaking.

Far too short, but a lovely performance. I love it when they let their hands loose to perform with them. Far too often they have their thumbs in their pockets to keep the hands 'quiet'. Home Free harmonies are the best in the business. Thank you for giving us a NYE present.

This is one of my top 5 HF songs, just their 5 voices in beautiful harmonies and what I also appreciate about it is the person we often forget about who is really the 6th member of Home Free is present in the video, their master producer Darren Rust in the control room. Happy New Year!

Whenever Chamce has a solo it's like climbing into bed with freshly washed sheets. So smooth and comforting. (Laundry analogy because he's been messing areas with laundry in a few videos)

Adam Chance's voice is so... buttery smooth. It's relaxing, heart-warming as you said, and just... it almost feels like it tugs a bit at your heart strings, even when the song is not overly emotional. My friend and I refer to him as "A.C. Smooth".

I have to say, I love this cover. Normally, I’m a bit of a stickler/patriot(🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿) when it comes to this song - I usually insist it has to be sung by Scottish singers, since it’s written in and (usually) sounds best in Scots. However, Home Free’s rendition is so beautiful, I’ll let it slide just this once! Fantastic analysis as always Jen, and a happy New Year to you!

Happy New Year to you! Home Free just does it right! They don't try to reinvent the wheel or add a ton of heavy bass drops for effect when they're not needed. Their version goes beyond goosebumps into full shivers and even tears for me. The guys always put the music and message before themselves and that's why Home Fries are so loyal. They care about what messages need covered even if it's a sensitive social issue. That makes us feel they are loyal to us in return. May we be blessed for many more years by their beautiful arrangements. And may 2023 be a blessed year for everyone!

This might be a weird analogy. But whenever Chance comes into a song like he did there, it seems to me to be the musical equivalent of pouring the gravy on your food. It adds just the right amount of richness.

Concur. Love Chance's voice as he has a very similar timbre to myself (granted he can go deeper than me). It's weird because I look like a giant dork, but people are shocked when I start singing and hear that.

I came here specifically hoping you would analyse this cover. Lucky me! *Home Free "Try Everything"* is one I would suggest to you because there are a _lot_ of layers to it. With each verse set, they add a new instrumental layer, then loop it through the rest of the song. After the bridge, you have three layers where you can _barely_ still hear the original layer in the background, meaning you are hearing about ten tones at the same time. Adam also shows off his drum kit beat-boxing skills in a little more depth. Happy New Year to you and everyone else! 🎉

Regardless of my inability to keep the date straight, this is a beautiful version of the song by Home Free. And this is one of the times that Home Free uses full 5-part harmony, without any beatboxing to distract Adam Rupp from singing.

Jennifer! Thank you for this one! Besides the song being timely it features Home Free's voices in some different ways than many of their other covers. This one is very ... barbershop quartet-ish? for lack of a better term. Their chords are just so rich and warm and as you point out they are SO tight with their matched vocals and stops. Not much chance for you to practice deep notes though. 😁 But I wish for you Jennifer a wonderful 2023.
