I cannot express just how much I love this drama.
It's been a long time since I enjoyed a drama so much. I love everything about it (those who say this drama isn't gay/bl enough don't interact). The themes, the characters, the relationships, the camera work, the fighting scenes (after nif and cql shitty choreo.... god bless jackie chan for my rights). The drama is about the most important things in life. I'm rewatching it already.
I was thinking about making found family, food, and home as central themes of the video, but it didn't come together. So I decided to focus on Dong'er and in my opinion, the video came out pretty well, though it's a bit rustic since I'm only figuring out how to work around the colouring and camerawork of this show which is just absolutely incredible, one of the most beautiful shows I've seen.
Dong'er is a child, but I'm so glad she's such a well-rounded character in the show, bringing so much into it. On her own and as a reflection of other character arcs. This show is incredible. Dong'er is incredible. She's the best girl. So this video is about her: the brilliant girl, her unwavering loyalty, her loving family she found along the way.

This video and your other video titled Fortune are what prompted me to finally give this series a watch and let me tell you, I finished watching it the other day and I immediately started missing the characters. I really loved the found family trope and the friendship between the characters so I'd like to thank you for introducing me to what is now my favorite show of all time ❤❤❤❤

Okay, I came back for a review after finishing the show. The theme song is playing as I write this. I loved the complexity of the show and the different relationships. The writer respected the viewer's intelligence, yes, I enjoyed it as much as I did Jun Jiu Ling. I loved the action sequences, I loved when they talked to build complexity in the story. I even loved how things were not stated. When pint sized terror was freaking out on the street because Tang Fan was touching him with affection, we knew it was bevause he got none since he was a kid. Even if the Queen wanted to mother him, she couldn't. About this little girl, I have to say, I was naive in not seeing that she would be neglected when the Oirat woman died. That woman and our two boys kinda got themselves into a sworn brother type relationship where they are willing to die for each other. And man, it was a disaster when she died. I had hoped Tang Fan's sister and Old Pei would pick up the slack when she got neglected but they didn't. That was disappointing. The funny part is, the dangerous guy, Wang Zhi kinda stepped in a little bit. I am so gkad someone told me about this show. I really enjoyed it. It's got a happy ending, I thought BLs never have such. If I was to recommend a C-Drama that is serious rather than just the usual fluff to help people relax, this would be it. The show was a perfect balance of serious and funny, whimsical and intense, sad and happy. I am glad I lived long enough to experience it, my heart is singing.

Oh my god thank you so much for writing this comment!!! YES this is it, this is the whole show. It's phenomenal. I am SO happy you liked this show, it's literally my favourite c-drama in the entire world. The message this show sends is so poignant and deep in it's simplicity, and it's done so wonderfully elegant. I love this show and I'm so glad you loved it too. The, what we call, "divorce arc" is really hard on Dong'er, but everyone was so broken by Duo'erla's death you sort of understand why. But I'm still judging them.

@@BeCumSH thank you for your response, I agree with you. I have one question though about Duoe'erla. I took the three of them as platonic friends/sworn brothers type thing so when she died they were broken. But I am seeing other people's comments about her and I am questioning if my interpretation was wrong. The straight couple we know are together, Old Pei finds her attractive and likes her, but did I misinterpret Tang Fan's finding Duoe'erla attractive? I know later on the three of them became attached because they literally saved each other's lives, and Sui had to overcome his disdain for Oirats. The entire time I thought it was plantonic, eventually went to even family without the 'I want to get into your pants' vibes. It felt very sibling to me. Was I wrong?

@@Sikhindu I think a lot of people were put off this show because they thought there's romance between Duo'erla and Tang Fan. But I too view it as friendship, maybe Tang Fan had a crush on her, but it was quickly stopped (and who wouldn't have a crush on Duo'erla). Plus, Duo'erla has her own love interest later on, so. Idk, I don't think they were even marketing as a thing, because Sui Zhou/Tang Fan is canon in book Yeah, another romance is Pei Huai and Tang Yu, Tang Fan's sister. They are adorable. And the royal couple, obvs.

@@BeCumSH glad someone else saw it as I do. Besides, I didn't see Sui getting jealous over Dou'erla hanging out with them all the time. I haven't watched BLs a lot but when I am in groups, I usually get a lot of anti- straight vibes from some of the fans or complaints about stories trying to dilute the gay couple by throwing in a woman in there. Which is why I was happy to watch Decreed by Fate. It's very obvious all three of them swing both ways and their physical attraction to each other is off the charts. I did like all the other couples on The Sleuth of Ming Dynasty, as well as the families, whatever that might be interpreted as. The world is so rough it doesn't hurt to be attached to other living people in a positive way. And that's what I look for in stories the most.

Such a beautiful drama... Dong'er was the only one who brought me to near tears in the drama...
I am only on episode 5 and I love their dynamic. Nothing like making your sugar daddy rescue your favourite maid then tearing her contract, freeing her.

@@BeCumSH I'll let you know when I am done. I was told to watch it by someone who listened to me rant about the flaws in C-Dramas, so she recommended this one and a few others. For last year, my favourite C-Dramas were Jun Jiu Ling and Word of Honor. The latter for its emotional complexity and nonverbal communication, the former for its mature main couple. Like they seriously floored me with the way they behaved properly, like adults, to each other. I have watched other shows since, some made me suffer because the female lead was written to be low IQ and quite difficult to deal with, others, the show lacked complexity. I did watch one that was seemingly very shallow and more like fanfiction, I had to watch it twice to fish for the hidden messages. That's what made it complex. In hindsight, they avoided all the nonsense that slows shows down, and I thought it was just a BL with a woman being used as a prop to cover it up but no, both guys actually love her too, and she loves them back. That was Decreed by Fate. Their physical chemistry, the three of them together or as three individual couples was off the charts. I had fun with that show. I wouldn't say it's the best show I have seen this year but I enjoyed it a lot.

@@lungchan1729 surprisingly I haven't watched a lot of stuff by Jackie Chan, I do appreciate the action sequences for that reason though, he makes them look good. ☺️ I watched more JCVD kickboxer movies than I did Jackie Chan movies when I was growing up.
