Home Built Reverse Trike Project Gets it's Tire Change Finished. CBR 600

Ойын-сауық

It's been a long time since you guys have seen the reverse trike build but today I'm working on the rear swing arm of the reverse trike. I wanted to rebuild the reverse trike swing arm to accommodate larger street tires. Next reverse trike video I should be adding a shock to the rear and finalizing most of the swing arm as well as adding the front brake calipers. Also let me know what you guys think about swapping the engine, should I keep the cbr600 or replace it with something else?

    Looking real good! With a “pusher” fuel pump it’s good to have it gravity fed. Dropping that pump to the level of the outlet will ensure full pressure all the time. I try and have them in the rail right below the tank.

    I have done the same. When you are very tired, you start missing many things. Now, since lessons learn. I take a brake and once my mind is settled and muscles relaxed. I recheck everything before starting the engine work. And it never fails, when checking twice, things seem to work just right. Great video and you never lost heart in what you are doing: perseverance goes a long way.

    Really pleased to see this build nearing completion, its one of my favourites. One thing I waould say is that the brackets that hold the swingarm to the frame need to be a lot beefier, even small road bumps will, in time, crack those ones you have now. Have the base that is welded to the frame at least twice the width as the top section

    Just a thought for a future build, if you go to the scrap yard and see a torsion bar type suspension (trailer or camper) check to see if it's not one of those rubber types. For a small project like this, they make a really cool swing arm, because it's all self contained in the arm and pivot.

    Great job of bleeding the fuel system! Can't be too thorough. In CA, three wheelers are still considered motorcycles. As long as you have the paperwork from the bike, you should be able to register that as a custom motorcycle. Usually bike titles have an engine serial# as well, easing this process.

    When you are using random shock/springs here is something to consider. There is more to the stiffness than spring wire diameter. The amount of coils and thier diameter is also a big factor. Imagine the spring unwound as a straight piece of wire. If you have a shorter piece of wire it's harder to bend. So a tighter wound coil(less overall length in the spring wire) will be stiffer than a larger diameter one with the same wire and number of coils. Tge same reason a coil spring becomes stiffer when you cut them.

  • @FarmerFpv

    @FarmerFpv

    2 жыл бұрын

    They don't become stiffer when you cut them, you only get that feeling as a placebo effect. Physics says you're wrong.

  • @jasonbirch1182

    @jasonbirch1182

    2 жыл бұрын

    @@FarmerFpv bullshit. What's easier to bend a 3 ft or a 4 ft piece of wire? You missed physics class. Longer lever easier to bend. A wound spring is still a lever, just a different shape. When you cut a wound spring it is getting shorter in overall wire length. It is in turn harder to bend and stiffer. Two springs of the exact same height and wire diameter, same wound diameter. If one has less coils spaced further apart it is a shorter piece of wire and therefore stiffer. Trust me, I've been studying suspension design/geometry and building/tuning my drift car for 4 years. It's a one of one car no one makes parts for, I built and modified every piece on it myself. The easiest way to stiffen the spring is by installing blocks between coils. When they can't compress it has the exact same effect as cutting a coil off without lowering it. I cut 2 coils in front and got the desired ride height, and it stiffened it considerably then I measured the distance between the coils and made nylon blocks that snap in. 3 blocks on each coil to keep them from collapsing uneven. I have two sets of 3 on each side. The spring was 10 coils and it's now essentially a 6 coil spring 40% stiffer. The dead coils play no part in the spring rate of the rest of the spring.
