This is a classic! But the older I get, the more I realize how dysfunctional Kevin’s family is (he gets overlooked and scapegoated so much!). That scene with old man Marley in the church is unexpectedly deep for a film this cute, and a good lesson for parents trying to do right by their children.

I’m sure people have commented this already but the three keys to Kevin getting left behind are: 1. Sleeping upstairs by himself (since he didn’t want to sleep with Fuller) 2. Spilled drinks on his plane ticket and passport that accidentally got thrown in the garbage in the chaos (meaning they wouldn’t see it at the airport and notice his absence) 3. Miscounting the neighbor’s child as Kevin (Mom lets her guard down believing everyone is accounted for) It still is pretty crazy not one person noticed, but they do lay some decently good groundwork for it!

One of the things I`ve noticed (and really appreciate) in this movie, is the symbolism with Marley`s (the old man) wounded hand. When Kevin meets him in the store, his hand is badly wounded. In church his hand is healing. And when he reunites with his family his hand is healed.

His Uncle Buck character is a crass, lazy doofus, but he’s got a heart of gold. Candy injects the character with such tremendous, infectious warmth, you can’t help but love the guy & root for him. This, in addition to Planes, Trains, & Automobiles, along with Only the Lonely (…anyone who thinks John Candy can’t act, watch that film. Yes, it’s a lighthearted romantic comedy, but there are some very serious dramatic moments in it as well which proves Candy had genuine range & skill) are THE definitive performances he gave. He was taken from us far too soon. Please watch & react to Uncle Buck and Only the Lonely, Oscar. You’ll truly have a wonderful time. 😊

"You guys give up? Or are you thirsty for more?" Merry Christmas! ✝️ 🙏 🎄 🎁 Fun Fact: Theatrical movie debut of Hope Davis, Paula Newsome, Kristin Minter, and Tracy J. Connor. Family Affair Fact: The boy who played Kevin's cousin Fuller is Macaulay Culkin's little brother Kieran Culkin in his feature film debut. All In Fact: Joe Pesci and Daniel Stern felt indifferent about the movie's potential during shooting, so they intentionally gave over-the-top performances, neither one of them believed this movie would become a massive success. Mrs. Doubtfire Award Fact: The picture Kevin (Macaulay Culkin) finds of Buzz's (Devin Ratray) girlfriend was a picture of a boy made up to look like a girl, because director Chris Columbus thought it would be too cruel to make fun of a girl like that. The boy that was used in the photo was art director Dan Webster's son. What Script Fact: The line "You guys give up, or are you thirsty for more?" was improvised by Macaulay Culkin. Marv's lines "Why the hell are you dressed like a chicken?" and "Maybe he committed suicide?" were improvised by Daniel Stern. John Candy filmed his part in only one day, albeit a twenty-three-hour day. Almost all of his dialogue was improvised. Thank You Very Much Fact: There is a legend that Elvis Presley (who died in 1977) made a cameo in this movie. Many of those who believe that Elvis is still alive maintained that the heavily bearded man standing in the background of the scene where Mrs. McCallister is shouting at the desk clerk (just before she meets John Candy) as Elvis. They asserted for years that the man is in the correct age range (Elvis would have been around 55 at the time), makes a head movement that Elvis frequently made during concerts, and that no record has ever been found about this particular actor's participation in the movie. The theory was finally debunked in 2018, when investigative journalists identified the extra as a man called Gary Richard Grott, who had passed away from a heart attack in February 2016. Grott's family was able to confirm that it was Grott in the movie, and also revealed that he had been working regularly as an extra on several Chris Columbus' movies, although Home Alone (1990) was the first one that he actually appeared in.

Truly a coming-off-age, growing up story. Kevin acts like a child at first, thinking his family magically disappeared but gradually learns to take care of himself as a grown up. Even becoming friends with the old neighbour is such a grown up scene, it's how two adults become friends, not children.... The end shows he doesn't need his family, he's an adult, but he still wants them..aaaand he would never have survived without his new friend. Also, the family at the beginning is stressed out, specifically the parents and they don't pay attention to Kevin's valid complaints. That is realistically what happens to many kids, but the movie tries to make it clear that it's because of the unusal stressful situation. Kevin is trying to explain what bothers him but his mother simply shuts him out. It makes sense because parents tend to do that when stressed. It also makes sense that Kevin wants his family to disappear because his concerns and struggles are being constantly disregarded.

Great reaction! 😊 This is one of my favorite, and one of my must-watch Christmas movies that I have to watch every Christmas season. The end when Harry and Marv are going through the house of traps, and the scene before that with Kevin and his neighbor in the church have always been my two favorite scenes. 30:36 And yes. John Williams did do the music for "Star Wars". He also did the music for the Indiana Jones movies, and Jaws just to name a few. I very highly recommend the 1992 sequel "Home Alone 2: Lost in New York". It's just as, if not funnier than this one. Looking forward to your next reaction. 😊

John Williams was asked by the director Chris Columbus to do the soundtracks. The main melody is called Somewhere in my memory. The director and John Williams worked together on the first two Harry Potters. You should google all the movies John Williams scored. Star Wars, Jaws, Indiana Jones, Schindler’s List and the War Horse. To name a few.

    1. John Candy did his part at union rate/FREE for his friend John Hughes RIP both. 😇😇 2. The items in Kevin's bags were not the same as what he had a checkout. 3. Daniel Stern/Marv has arachnophobia. That's why he freaked out. (NOTE: tarantula spiders aren't venomous to humans but look scary). He insisted on only one take. His scream was dubbed in later so not to scare the spider. 4. "Angels with Filthy Souls" is not a real movie. 5. GOOF: Marv has tar all over his foot when he steps on the stairs but when he grabs his foot, and all the other scenes after that no tar. 6. NO WAY could a child get the rope tight enough between the house and treehouse without a winch of some kind. 7. There's ANOTHER NO WAY Kevin could clean up that fast. 8. Home Alone II is good. However, Kevin as good hearted as he is, he gets mean. 9. Macaulay Culkin worked with John Candy (and Hughes) in "Uncle Buck". That's how he got this gig. Great first time/share. HINT HINT

I grew up on this movie. I've seen quite a few reactions to this Home Alone. This is probably my favorite movie reaction to it. I can still remember seeing this in the movie theater with my older cousin when we were kids. LOL, Our grandma dropped us off at the movie theater and then picked us up later. I think my grandma and my aunts were doing after-Christmas shopping? It was definitely a different time because nobody thought anything of dropping a 9 yr old and an 11 yr old off at the movie theater and just bailing. The car ride home we were still laughing over this movie. I watch 1 and 2 every year. LOL even as an adult I think it total crap that Buzz never gets in trouble for stuff he does. Especially since he's way older than Kevin. Buzz irritates me. You definitely should watch the sequel, Lost in New York at some point. You should also check out Uncle Buck, The Good Son, and, My girll. Oh and you should check out the movie Better watch Out.

My sister has 10 kids and does a roll call in the car before they leave. Our parents once drove off and left that sister sitting in her baby carrier on the front porch at my grandparents but they realized it immediately and just drove around the block to find my grandmother waiting patiently beside the baby carrier. A friend and I did see a woman pull out of a parking lot with a baby carrier on her roof. We pulled behind her at a stop light and my friend jumped out and ran up to the car, knocked on the window, and lifted down the carrier. The woman burst into tears while he buckled the baby in the back seat and kept thanking him. People were honking and I was so mad because it just made the woman more flustered. The whole thing took less than three minutes but people were so impatient.

Home Alone is a such a core memory movie for me. I grew up in the 80s-90s, snowy Midwest, and while my house was nothing like the McAllisters, my grandparents did have a huge home where all of the family gathered for Christmas. Everything about the movie reminds me deeply of my childhood. Also, Catherine O'Hara is fantastic and I love everything she is in. As an aside, There's a couple videos of doctors and one a trauma surgeon dis using the injuries in this movie, and, basically, these dudes would not have survived.

I love that John Candy and Macaulay were reunited in this after Uncle Buck. Even though they weren't in a scene together, close enough. Also the funeral scene by Candy was completely improvised, which makes it even more hilarious. And Marv's spider death scream is legit. He had arachnophobia. The greatest crime in this certainly...is that Kevin didn't even get to eat his Macaroni and Cheese.
