    The fun thing about the "Traffic duty" thing is that, because of the setup so far, the audience is trained to see it as Judy being singled out for being a rabbit. But remember, this is literally her first day on the force. The precinct has no reason to believe she can handle larger cases yet, and she's not proved herself in actual police work, so of course she gets the lowest stake job

    I think I would disagree is because the chief does say it in a way like the job is looked down on. Also they had the whole force on missing mammal cases in groups and that would also provide her with a training opportunity without needing to rely 100% on her. And when they tried to fire her over taking on a missing mammal case- that's illegal, she's supposed to get some internal discipline at worst.

    I think the thing that gets me about Nick scaring Judy into starting to go for her fox repellant is that you can *not* tell me that Gideon only menaced her that one time we saw. That's not how bullies do. Which means she probably has some trauma response to "aggressive fox in my face", even if she intellectually knows better. It wasn't even that she doesn't trust Nick, which is how he takes it, it's that he triggered her.

  • @thecocoacouch

    @thecocoacouch

    Could be true hey. I remember Judy saying at the start though that she was “Nine, and Gideon grey was a jerk who happened to be a fox” maybe it was a reflex that stemmed from prejudice she carried for so long afterwards? Idk what you said makes total sense but narratively speaking it would undermine her entire arc as a character if it was just an accident.

  • @ruffboiALT

    @ruffboiALT

    @@thecocoacouch I don't think so, because I think regardless of WHY she did it, it was instinctual. She did not consciously think "I am being attacked, I will get the fox mace", she just saw "aggressive fox in her face" and her instinct was "go for defensive weapons bc you're being attacked". And regardless of if it's influenced by trauma, that's part of the point: how ingrained that sort of prejudice is, that even if it was partially or even largely a trauma response, it's still also feeding into prejudice. So it's a little dash of this but also a little dash of that, and that's how real life prejudice often WORKS.

    Seconding this. Judy's definitely the fight back type who doesn't look/act like a typical 'traumatised bullying victim', but Gideon assaulted her then had her pinned to the ground insulting her. That isn't a mild thing, and isn't something he'd just jump to without previous escalation either. Biased or not, she's bound to have an ingrained response to a similar threat directly in her face

  • @aisleelovegreenwood6448

    I love that we see Judy think that Emmitt Otterton can't possibly be savage because he's "a sweet little otter," even though she's dealt with people saying the same thing about her her whole life, and had to fight to prove to them that she can still be tough. When we get told over and over that _most_ people like us are a certain way, we begin to believe it's true, and that we ourselves are just the exception. Growing up, I was a girl who liked doing "boy" things, and instead of recognizing that that sort of thinking was stupid, I just thought I was "not like other girls."

  • @k.v.7681

    @k.v.7681

    It's also a play on the perception of otters being "cute" and "gentle". They are predators. Otters living in the Amazon river hunt caimans in groups and body Jaguars that encroach on their territory. Wild otters in Japan take hold of public green spaces in cities and actively hunt people on riverbanks to claim territory. To say nothing of sea otters who... starts with R baby seals when they didn't land a female during rut season. They're terrifying animals, just like cats. They just have the advantage of what is called "baby schema" (basically their features remind us of baby proportions, which subconsciously compels us to care for them. Cats have that, babies, baby monkeys, puppies...)

    44:09 - What I love most about this movie is the internal consistency in its details. I knew even before the reveal that Nick hadn’t really been darted because his eyes hadn’t changed. Everyone else in the movie, when they got darted, their eyes changed to look more feral. It’s most noticeable on the panther driver, because his one eye he was keeping shut due to injury, and when he goes feral, he opens it and it draws your attention to that fact. And since Nick’s eyes hadn’t changed, I knew this was a ruse and so wasn’t completely freaked when he went for the neck!

    If you like stories where two characters on opposite sides of the law team up to solve crimes, then you should see White Collar. It's one of my favorite series ever and it's about Neal, a young forger and gentleman thief, who starts working (with a GPS anklet) for Peter, the only agent who has ever managed to capture him. Neal is a free spirit, he doesn't believe in rules, he is extremely charming and cultured; Peter, on the other hand, believes in the rules and the system, is a hard worker and a devoted husband. However, Neal and Peter have two things in common: they are extremely intelligent and love challenges. The dynamic they manage to establish on the show is incredible in my opinion.

    This movie honestly feels like it should be mandatory viewing. The matters it touches on are quite serious and things we, as humans, ought to learn about. And I don't see these lessons becoming any less relevant for quite some time.

    Loved this reaction! And I completely agree with you. The progression from Nick begrudgingly going along because he has to, to him actually being invested in the case and wanting to help Judy just feels so natural. It never feels rushed or out of character.

    Someone may have mentioned it, I know I'm a little late on this one, but at 14:26, the pig florist that comes to Judy yelling for help, he's played by her real-life husband. The two of them met filming 'Once Upon a Time' (playing Snow White and Prince Charming)

    41:15 I think that's my favorite part when it comes to attention to detail. The look on the otter's face is so telling. You can tell he knows what hit him. He's not annoyed because he just felt hit with something, he is terrified because he knows what will happen.

I had no idea that's why he knew it was the flowers😂🤣😂🤣 What's wrong with me

    Yes, it was a lovely movie, so creative. Thanks for breaking it down with the logic of why the characters would do what they did. 😅 Can't believe l didnt catch the 'jude the dude' and it was in there twice. 😂 I thank God for such blessings. It was clever to find the one that knows around and is street smart. Real nice, even better after catching the amen, hallelujah, and the mention of the speaking in tongues spiritual gift! 💯 awesome!

    I just love this movie so much! "Destroying the stereotypes" fits perfectly for this. The comedy, the character development and the whole design is just on another level. I'm so glad there will be a 2nd movie in the Future. And i love the fact that judys voice actor is the same as snow white in the tv series once upon a time . Snow white is also so pure and optimistic! I wish more people could be like Judy

    First of: I'm so excited for the video. I have a series suggestion for you though: Malcolm in the Middle. It's a sitcom centered around an absolute crazy, but lovable family, has great characters, comedy and drama, with a few problematic jokes sprinkled throughout, as to be expected from an old sitcom. I have written this comment in various formulations and I will continue so, till I see my favourite reactor, react to this beautiful mess of a series.

    I love this movie and it was so much fun seeing you react to it. Friendship stories are my jam, especially when they're opposites like this. It was so fun seeing Judy and Nick learn to trust each other, and I really liked how their banter increased as their friendship did. It felt completely natural. And you're definitely right about the worldbuilding - some of the best I've seen, and it really enhanced the story.

    I love this movie for so many reasons, I really think it handles the concepts of prejudice so well, because we see it happen through the eyes of our hero; how anyone can fall foul of it. There are so many characters that fulfil their stereotypes but also battle them - the cheetah being the stereotypical cop but also, the total opposite of what a cheetah is, is a great one. Poor fella gets demoted out of fear even thought its so evident he's not anything like his stereotype. Judy is the best female heroine in a movie from Disney, period, imo. The movie focuses on her career, personality and race, not the fact she's a woman. It's not the source of her weakness or her strength and frankly that's how you write a good heroine; as a PERSON.
