I mostly agree with this, but having done reviews on free games for magazines in the 90's, I will admit that it's impossible to feel the same about something that you've received for free, as opposed to something you've paid for, but that's just how it is. I think people were taken back by the price, $250 IIRC. I'd personally go for something like a Steamdeck at that point. With a superior display, and more power, and more gaming options.

It took every company a while to figure out the cheap Analog sticks were just garbage. They all had to go back to Sega Saturn/Dreamcast controllers to fix the problems. The Sega Console that most people didn't want is now praised for the technology used in it.

I'm very interested in this. Would love to see more games tested, especially ps2, PSP, GameCube, etc.

I hope one day we get a budget handheld that runs like the one on this video. I'm looking forward to that video.

Hey MadLittlePixel, If possible Id like a follow up video to test some of the Saturn games like Rayman and Galatic Attack being Rayman has always had emulator issues with the controller especially with SSF over the years. and maybe some more heavy driven games on the Dreamcast for Shenmue

What is the benefit of the 1:1 ratio? I don't know of any systems that use that. It just seems like most of the screen is being wasted.

For the price a retroid pocket 4 pro is a better choice imo

What's the light bleed situation?.....seen some reviews and even my Powkiddy 30 has some bleed making me very wary of this now. Anyway it's at a price point where I would rather save for a Retroid 4 or higher equiv model of Anbernic.....my 35 H will do fine for now.

Supposedly the second batch is fine. I've heard that GoGameGeek only has those in stock and they stand behind their products, so if a bad one did get through they'll take care of you. As a result it might be worth the premium to buy it from them. Only you and your wallet can make that decision. The RH guys have the ZPG Unicorn in for review and all of theirs have perfect screens. If you're okay with losing analog triggers and a touch of PS2 performance, it's a solid 1:1 option that undercuts the Cube in price by about $30 or so.

The only thing I don't like but that they can eventually fix in software is the fact that the analog stick snaps to cardinal directions and aren't super smooth in games like Mario 64

Is the D-Pad good for fighting games? You know what I mean. How shoryukenable it is? Could this be better than Retroid Pocket 4 Pro?

It's definitely not better than the RP4. Not being a hater, but the RP4 has a more powerful processor that allows it to play higher end games without any frame rate drops. That's why it also costs more.

@@wendellwatson8318 it is better in some ways. I rather play nds, 3ds, anything below gamecube and arcade fighting games on the cube. RP4P for psp, ps2 widescreen games and wii.

I stopped at the RG351V. That's my favorite but, that one looks cool too.

Everything looks great except the 1:1 screen, which is an odd choice since no games are ever going to fit the screen unless they're stretched. I could see 4:3 making more sense, but I'd still prefer a 16:9 display and have black bars on the sides for games in 4:3, rather than have a 16:9 game shrunk down to fit into a perfect square.

The RG556 is the same chipset at 16:9. I think the square is better than 4:3 right now because there aren't good 4:3 screens available. Notice that a lot of them are 480p. This being 720p is good for integer scaling on a lot of systems, and 4:3 looks good with a little bit of black bars. Would like a handheld with a good higher resolution 4:3 screen.

It runs GoW PS2 games. I think Retro Games tested it. I can confirm it runs without issue, just can't confirm what video I saw it on. If I remember correctly though it only runs 1x

I want to buy one, then see the reviews about some having dud screens with quite a lot of light bleed. I still think I'll get one soon, i like the ration on screen. And being Android I'm hoping i can play some ZX favourites and map the controls. I'm still using my Miyoo Mini a fair bit but I like the look of screen size on this

I don't get it. Why is everyone asking "what it pays"? I must have missed something.

Looks like it plays newer stuff pretty well, but what are they doing using a square display?! No consoles use that apesct ratio, so you are either squishing the graphics at a wrong aspect, or you are reducing the size by a lot (that's why the Saturn display only takes up a fraction of the display, at the bottom). They put a V8 engine into a Ford Pinto!

Does it come with a stylus, and does it actually display in 3D the way the 3DS does?

It really “pays” to have a cube

I'm very interested in this unit and the ZPG Unicorn. As Huey Lewis taught us, it's hip to be square. I'd like more coverage of both. One of the things I'd like to see covered is widescreen hacks. I know that sounds silly; but, I've read that some emulators - Dolphin MMJR comes to mind - will output a perfect 1:1 image if you enable widescreen hacks and then set the aspect ratio to full. So far none of the reviewers I frequent have tried that out yet.

I am very interested but the problem with android device is when using duckstation the memory card is inside the data folder and with android 13 you can't copy out as backup. Is there workaround for that?

Worst video ever

All I needed to do is hear "The build is crap" (referring to the image with config/games). I don't care how good the hardware is... I don't want to configure shit... So Ambernic, maybe don't design 1 or 2 handhelds in the near future (3-4 weeks) and get a process of building images down so that people can take this bish out of the box and just start enjoying. That's when you get my money. I can wait until the end of time.
