It really isn’t, especially when you’ve been living with the person for a decade+. Think about how people can tell which family member is walking simply by the sound of their footsteps. I know which of my cats jumped on the bed in the middle of the night, without even opening my eyes or petting them, based off the pressure of their feet when they’re walking on the bed.

Especially if someone does something consistently in a very specific and distinct way. My grandma used to wash and unfold milk cartons for recycling. And I fold hamburger wrappers instead of crumpling them into a ball.

not gonna lie, whenever i see the scene of jake saying y'all hella specific i laughed too hard.

A friend finally explained the Month Hall math to me. In the set of 3 doors your first pick has a 2/3 chance of being wrong. Thats the part you bet on: that you were wrong the first time. Sonce the host cant get rid of the winning door, and your first answer has a 2/3 chance of being wrong, that means theres a 2/3 chance the other remaining door has the prize.

If you chose from 100 doors, and then the host opened 98 doors leaving just the door you picked and another door closed, and the winning door had yet to be visible... it becomes very obvious why mathematically it's better to switch than stick. The host knowing the answer is the key factor in this paradox, not the number of closed doors.

So a good way to picture the Monty Hall problem is, imagine that instead of opening one of the doors the host just offers you both of the doors you didn't pick. Then it's obvious that your odds go up if you switch. And that's what's actually happening - one of the two doors will always be a non-winner, but calling attention to that fact doesn't change the odds. Switching still wins you the car if it's behind either of the doors you didn't pick, while standing only wins you the car if it's behind the one door you did pick.

We have doors A, B and C; and let's imagine the car is behind door C. Scenario 1: You choose Door A that doesn't have the car, the host will open Door B that also doesn't have the car and ask you if you want to switch. In this scenario you win if you switch. Scenario 2: You choose Door B (no car), the host now has to open door A (also no car) and asks if you want to switch. In this scenario you also win if you switch. Scenario 3 You choose Door C (which has the car), the host opens either of the remaining doors and asks if you want to switch. In this scenario you lose if you switch. So, overall for the three possible choices you can make (Door A, B or C) in two of those scenarios you win by switching and in one you lose by switching. Therefore the probability of winning if you switch is 2/3.

@@hollowwoods7130 I've seen a lot, Heartstopper, Elite, Euphoria etc and and although I applaud the increase in lgbt rep I still feel writers and producers often make sexuality and orientation the WHOLE identity and personality of characters. Human beings are much more complex than that. I'd say the Holt-Kevin couple got it consistently right which is why they are such a treat to watch, but never shied away from exploring the troubles Holt faced as a black gay Captain. The only recent movie that kind of got it right within a short timeframe is Red, White and Royal Blue, where the heroes were standalone strong, complicated and loveable characters on their own and not just lgbt signboards.

@@trishasurangana2278 It’s interesting that you call out Euphoria bc there are multiple queer characters on that show whose sexualities have zero to do with their personalities (at least in the first season). Like if Jules never showed up in town, would the audience even know Rue was queer? I’ve also encountered multiple people who were hella confused about the Jules’ flashbacks and why she was even on that dating app bc they didn’t even pick up on the fact that she’s trans. I haven’t watched the second season tho, so maybe I’m missing stuff there.

I don't think the issue is that it's hard, I think the problem is the lens in which people look at it. Many people naturally think of the odds as "What are the odds that the prize is behind any one of these doors?" when what they should be considering is "What are the odds that my initial choice was wrong?" When looked at it through a different statistical lens, the answer makes sense, but it isn't the most intuitive way of viewing the problem for the majority of people.

2:53 What's funny is they're both right on this one. It really just comes down to how sure of the answer you originally chose is. So if you don't choose the door after the first door is revealed, than you have a 1 in 3 chance of winning the car. However, if you do choose another door, your chance goes to 50/50 as the first door was removed. It really just highlights Holt's prior gambling addiction.
