This is the real future-notVR. I can imagine going on A run and having A virtual game like temple run overlain on your running path. All kinds of cool things you can do with this.

Check out the Mojo Lens. Not only is it a near perfect method of AR, but closing your eyes doubles as VR. No FOV or IPD issues either since they're contact lenses. Mojo Vision's CTO says it'll be priced at around high-end smartphone prices.

VR and AR really aren't that different. There's a reason this technology is going to start to be referred to as "XR" with the software converging. There are a ton of uses for AR, but AR will never have the immersion that VR does, so I can see both sides of XR having their uses.

Nobody knows about it. After Google Glass flopped, I think people aren't looking at this as the new normal like they did with Google Glass. I think the other aspect is pricing, this technology looks perfect for use in industry, but if you want your own unit, it'll cost $3,000 - $4,000.

Honestly I think Virtual Reality devices are harder to use than phones. I'm gonna commit suicide if technology goes that far. I'm really afraid of the future for about months. Man I want a device that is easier to use and can be physically touched like phones, tablets, desktops and laptops, not a computer screen that its light source is nowhere to be found (aka the one shown in the video). I at first thought that Virtual Reality thing was all a lie and it was a thing that literally the entire humanity was and still thinking of it, even Adam! But now after watching this video I'm really really afraid of the future.

Plus Virtual Reality devices don't improve privacy at all, but rather ruins it. If you want to hear something you don't want others to hear and you only have a headphone that is operable if you connect its cable to a turned-on phone, and even your phone is damaged and you only have that HoloLen, how would you be able to connect the headphone to that HoloLen if there's no phone body that can be connected to? Especially that HoloLens' screens physically don't exist but the input and output are within the air, right?

I wonder how good the hand gesture interaction feels. The stage demo Microsoft did made it look super janky, but that may have just been the video projection they were doing. It doesn't look as bad in this demo. On my Oculus 2, I was surprised the hand gestures didn't feel that bad despite having no tactile feedback. I only tested the gestures out though, I still regularly use the Oculus controller in the same way I'd rather use a mouse on the computer than touch the screen.

  • @bbelilovsky

I believe that you could technically do it with 3rd party tools in here already with the main limitation being performance. The hand tracking is... ok at best at this point. It's just good enough to feel intuitive to push your fingers through the air and affect the virtual world. However if you look closer, you'll notice quite a considerable lag between the user hands and the virtual hands. It might become quite an issue when you move your hands quickly and see a trail of invisibility following them. So I personally think that with a bit more development and better hardware, we'll definitely get to see something like your proposal. I think it sounds great and would indeed be very intuitive - given it performs without noticeable delay.

They need to make an interface that isn’t pointing with fingers, it would make life so much easier. I think it would be great if there was a way to have a phone turn into a mouse which you could rotate into a keyboard.

The tech isn't quite there yet... I mean, its laggy and the interface seems to be not that responsive. I think that if there was some way to use a external CPU or GPU to process the data while indoors, and beyond that some gloves to accelerate the communication process, or even to give the user some tactile response it would be great.
