I know this is an older video, but I just wanted to thank you for doing it and posting. I agree with your conclusions that the Edelbrock pump sure looks like a better product. Thanks!

I am going to disagree on ports for the exact points you noted. The Holley being full bore inlet/reduced outlet [as most liquid pumps tend to be] is a good thing. This will help check valve snap shut faster, delivering fuel a touch earlier for the same stroke. The extra ejection pressure dropping after the port is fine - a carb only needs 6 or 7 psi anyway, but can pull lower IF they get required volume. For a pump that has no effective precharge on suction [tanks are pretty much at atmosphere], having the larger suction port helps the pump work more efficiently. If a 350 engine needs more than 500hp worth of fuel delivered... its kind of time to give up on the mechanical pump anyways - especially these non-return styles. Going to a higher volume per stroke mechanical can work, but is going to force a return style system be installed to manage cruising feed: change out sending unit or add a fitting to the tank and run lines. My preference? The Edelbrock wins because of the pin alone: I like being able to repair something. [Wth was Holley thinking?] Its worth pointing out a diaphragm pump is a positive displacement design: it moves full volume/stroke without shearing problems a centrifugal pump experiences - no efficiency curve voodoo there. Pivot arm ratio determines stroke; and in combination with diaphragm diameter, volume is set. If there is a test to note with any fuel pump, always begin with volume: gph must meet hp design or redline gets de-rated because bowl level can't be maintained.

My Holley 12-327-11 that I got many of many years ago. It's just like the Edelbrock with the same casting around the pin.

I just had a new Edelbrock fail (split the casting around a screw at the diaphragm gasket) I wasted half a day trying to find the problem. Sending it back for a refund, now I have a holly on there that works fine. PS this I had holly before on a different vehicle and have now learned my lesson.

How about a video on the reclocking procedure. I know Edelbrock states that the 1721 SBC Fuel Pump the lower housing is able to so that the in & out positions can be better located for the vehicle it's being put in.

I agree with you, I was running a Holley pump on my 602 crate race car and the pin ripped out of the sweating and failed, I'll be ordering and Edelbrock

How does the Edelbrock compared to the Carter high volume pump? The Cater is 120GPH.

Holes are different sizes because the Holley is a 80gph and edlebrock 110gph?

At a loss why I’m not getting fuel pressure on Chevelle. New filter, checked fuel lines, even put hose in gas can to see if I got fuel. Took pump off and took it apart and cleaned it up. Not getting any pressure. It’s a Holley pump.

The smaller bore I would think increases the pressure.

Anthony Wayne doesmt work like ac lines and auch where the small lines are high pressure and the big lines are low. With fuel you want more room for flow

Hi thank for this video . maybe you can help I have a problem with my Edelbrock fuel pump 1721. I have an air leakage.. I pump air instead fuel ! I have unscrew the bottom part to rotate the in/out inlet part. This pump have screw to do this BUT the probleme is that when we screw this part at the maximum at 20-25 in/lbs and 1,6 lb.ft ( for me France) ... I stil have leak... It's in aluminum so we have to be careful.. I don't understand why screw as said in manual I still have leak... thank you

How hard is the reclocking procedure? How much of the pump did you have to take apart? Just the lower housing screws? Or did you have to disassemble the entire pump?

Would change my mechanic fuel pump from the original pump I have on my old 1979 gmc truck 305 if i put a eldbrock pump would my truck be better on gas? And preform better ?

  • @KingJT80

no cause your 305 is stock and in a truck. 20 yrs ago when i did my 305 in an 80 impala 2 door i should have went with a stock pump. it had stock heads an an RV style cam. thats just more fuel than its gonna need and these edelbrocks are over 100.00 save your money and keep the stock one until it fails.having more fule pressure than what the carburetor can take will push the needles of the seats and flood the carb. then you need a regulator and more unnecessary plumbing. save yourself the trouble

@@KingJT80 Except the edelbrock pumps are designed to be operated without a regulator as they have a max psi of 6. At least the one showcased here does. So no they aren't going to flood the carb or do anything to the needle and seats. Having said that as long as the stock pump is functioning correctly changing it out isn't going to help anything as a fuel pump by itself doesn't improve performance if nothing else is done. In most cases adding power never results in better mileage anyways. Unless you are also drastically improving efficiency at the same time.

Edelbrock is the way to go. Keep in mind the Chinese, Koreans, etc. can build a pump anyway that Holley demands. It's just a matter of US companies increasing profits by importing these poorly designed pieces

It's unfortunate that Holley has gotten lazy and quite lame. Everyone stole holleys design and improved on it. Holley was king and these designs,I'm sure took a ton of work to get right where everyone else didn't have to do any work to come up with something that would work but mearly improve on someone else's hard work and greatness. It is unfortunate that Holley never tried to improve on an already great product line instead of sit back and watch someone like Barry Grant make a name for himself using holleys platform. Grant never design a thing all he is is a guy who knows how to race prep a carburetor. That's it. He'll never design his own new invention product to be a huge corporation like holley, although they did acheave greatness again with the sniper. Thx
