Thank you. We found that after two tplo surgeries and another revision surgery our 95 lbs American bulldog wanted to still chase the ball and play fetch. However he always seemed to be in pain and limping not long after the activity. Finally threw out his toys and just stuck to walks and he’s doing a lot better. Dasuquin is a great supplement that has also helped him if given on a consistent basis.

Thank you. Great overview and appreciate you consider cost and placebo effect. Looking too for review of pain medications: Gabapentin and Tramadol and curious if cod liver oil has too much vitamin D for dogs, especially if it is already present in their food.

Hey there! Thank you for your wealth of helpful information! I am most grateful to you : ) I have one question for you...Our beautiful family member, Brighten is a 110 lb. mix of mostly Bernese Mountain Dog with a little Australian Shepherd. He just turned 9 at the beginning of June. We live in great ol' New York City and with that comes living in a 3rd-floor walkup apartment building. A few years ago, our vet prescribed a weight control food and he lost an excellent amount of weight. The vet also prescribed a month's worth of pain meds to get him through the first month of the new food, and because he literally was refusing to go up the stairs. And as you said, it's one of the signs that he was in pain. The weight-loss food worked very well and he has been energetic ever since and even 4 months ago, he was galloping down the street with a huge amount of energy! We weren't pulling him, rather he was pulling us and seemed quite happy about it! All smiley and such : ) Flash-forward to this past couple of weeks...He seems to have reverted back to not wanting to go up the stairs and it is pretty hard for him to get up off the floor. I'm torn about what to do, as I hear about nightmares with a number of arthritis meds, and myself and my partner live a pretty holistic lifestyle and obviously want the same for our Sentient Being. With all of this said and the fact that we live on the 3rd floor and Brighten needs to do his business outside with the only way to get outside is to go down the stairs and then back up again. I am asking you, because in watching your videos and seeing that your knowledge is very mindful by not just suggesting one way or prescription of one particular medication or wanting to prescribe something because they pay you to promote their particular brand of meds. We are unable to move as of yet, so I would love to know what you would suggest as a solution to the stairs or a suggestion in hopefully getting him back to going up the stairs. I appreciate you and your thoughtful videos : ) Thank you ahead of time for hopefully responding!

Please could you tell ne about the librella injection

Thank you for this video series. It's made today a bit easier and will make all the tomorrows easier too. My cat Kiku (12 & FIV+), was diagnosed today with arthritis in lower his back. It was diagnosed because he is going through a sudden, really tough time. He received an NSAID injection and Gabapentin script. We have two senior cats and I just bought stairs a few months ago for them to get on the bed and couch easier but should I be providing ramps instead with this new diagnosis?

The monthly injection is a new treatment since this video was filmed. It is a game-changing option in my opinion but also does not negate all of the other ways we can address the impact of arthritis

Can you elaborate on the positives and negatives of these drugs please? When I was doing some more in-depth reading i discovered some things that make me concerned. My 14yr dog just had a librella shot last week. Im really regretting it. She has other issues with her spine not just with arthritis. I discovered that librella was approved ONLY for ARTHRITIS in the Extremities and it can make conditions of the spine worse. My vet literally diagnosed a spine condition discospindelous then recommended a librella shot. He didn't ask if my dog had ever had seizures. Thankfully she hasn't to my knowledge but it sounds like it can make seizures worse and more frequent. I feel like librella is being spoon fed as a cure all with no real dangers to be concerned about. Red flags@@OurPetsHealth

For a dog not getting traction getting up off hardwood floor - would "Musher's Secret" dog paw wax fix that problem? I'm wary of trying to glue or stick on those pads i see for sale. Thanks Doc or anyone reading who might know

Not any convincing evidence that it helps. Marine based omega 3 fatty acids are the supplements that have the best evidence of a positive effect

Surely the placebo effect is precisely based on the premise that the patient believes the "medication" has a direct therapeutic effect? An animal cannot possibly have this belief. (Disclaimer: I'm definitely not a vet!) 😁 I really can't imagine my dog telling herself that this tablet will do me a lot of good based on recent surveys. Her grasp of pharmacology has always been rather poor. Great video though, and really helpful, thanks. Sounds like I should be swapping my Youmove tablets for some other Omega 3 tablets.

You're right but caregiver placebo is hugely important. Check out the video link in the other answer all about it. As for yumove, I believe it contains omega 3? If it's not prevention you Pershing other treatment/management options then I'd stick with it as the other ingredients may also help, we just rely on them
