I trained hap kune and hung gar from age 16 to 25. My sifu was trained in China and it was old school brutal stuff. For the first year as a snot nosed teenager I was made to do five minutes horse stance, then the entire stance set 1 min per stance. Then the punches set with concrete weights. Then bone conditioning and qi going. Finishing with more horse stance. Turned me from a boy to a man 😂.

No just no. Is it hard well it is designed to be, you are holding a half rep but the hardest ever I don't think so. I mean come on... You could make it harder by simply bringing in the feet and taking the weight off the hips thus more weight on the legs and a shorter rep duration. Which by the definition implied would be harder.

Well done! I hit 6mins a few months back, but haven’t trained since. I would like to try to retrain back to that and also use the stick. I find that nervous system regulation is so key for success with the HS.

I only did a 100 seconds horse stance last night. During the last 10 seconds I was literally crying out in pain. When I was done I noticed that my ears were flushed. Well, the way I see it is that I have something I can work on for a few months.

for aging folk, the literature is consistent about keeping muscular strength, in all planes. this looks like a fine addition to mix in with kettle bell work and the use of kettle bells for adding weight- eventually . . .

That's impressive, 8:00 minutes and perfect low horse stance, when i was in my 20s i was practicing Pa Yuan Tsin from a book called The Power Of Chi by Geoff Pike and the most i did was 5 Minutes, it's weird how the pain comes in waves and each wave is more intense. If you got every Olympic athlete in the world to try to do 8 mins %99 wouldn't be able to accomplish it, that;s how hard it is mentally and physically. Have you ever recorded you heart rate when performing the horse stance past the 5 min mark? i bet it's going quite fast.

Well any endurance to failure exercise will feel like that. I imagine holding a half push up for 5 mins would be the same... Actually probably worse because the chest and arms do not get as much load and exercise and time under tension. Still I think it is a fine practice, but yeah it is just a fatigue to failure within a single rep.

I had one of the nostrils congested through at least 10 years (never breathing on both). Indeed, Jala Neto or breathing techniques can help temporarily alleviate symptoms. But if you want cure, you should look to the cause. What I've notice in my case, was that a few months after abandoning dairy in general (but also any animal sourced food), I suddenly realized I had no congestion and was breathing completely free from both nostrils. Also, my sinusitis Crysis (that used to happen 3 or 4x a year) didn't happen since then (it's 3 years now). You can have guidance from Ayurveda as well, in your journey to cure your symptoms.

@J J Seed oils is something I kept in my diet. No problem with that for that specific matter (congestion and sinus). Best is no oil of course. But removing dairy (and eggs) was definitely the game changer for me. And that's is aligned also with the ayurvedic texts.
