This song is and still is in 2024 a rock anthem. Long live rock and roll.

My workplace plays this song from time to time. I wish my workplace would play more classic rock than this nowadays crap.
I’m 68 now and seeing these fantastic videos from the Midnight Special in such clarity is wonderful. I watched this and Don Kirshner’s Rock Concert every time they were on. Looking back, I realize how you don’t appreciate how good you have until it’s gone. This was great music performed by great musicians.

Never hear anything worth a Crap on FM these days...I'm sure its not because of my age! Mostly the demographic ( Upper Midwest) where I reside. Glad this channel came up in my feed!!👍👍🎶🎸🎹 Good Stuff!🙋♀️

@@magneto7930I loved "Rock Concert" on ABC because it showed actual bits of concerts instead of one or (maybe) two songs per group, and it wasn't largely "the hits" such as "Midnight Special." Kirshner also introduced me to Glam, which I instantly loved.

@@OeditpusRex absolutely, it was awesome! I learned about a lot of album oriented Rock songs that I wasn't familiar with until I seen them performed on that show. Great music, great memories!
I was at this performance. It was shot at the Warner Bros lot in Burbank, CA for the pilot episode of MNS. My friend's dad was one of the cameramen. That whole day was so much fun! We saw Argent, War, Harry Chapin, Linda Ronstadt, David Clayton Thomas, Mama Cass, The Everly Bros, etc., and it was hosted by John Denver . What great days they were back then.

I can't get enough of the Midnight Special! It reminds me of when I was a kid laying down on the living room floor watching it while everyone was asleep.
Nailed it. Was inspired by this song. Loved the Hammond, especially the bridge. Always thought it was "woe", not "wo-man"! That's alright. :)

All these decades of listening to this song, and I never realized they were saying “hold your head up woman, hold your head up woman.“ I always thought they were saying “hold your head up, go on and hold your head up, Go on and hold your head up.”
Fantastic song, love that double neck guitar & lead singer’s 🥵. Always thought lyrics were “Whoaa” not “Woman” in the chorus. Nice surprise & changes the meaning of song in a really big way . . . Yea! “Women’s Empowerment” song & I totally dig it!! ✊ Had the 45 record as a little girl.

70’s rock anthem. Heavy rotation on FM radio. Man this crowd was dead… must have been on quaaludes.
I don't think the instruments are being played live but they are using the backing tracks from the record. The vocals are live. This was done quite a bit because some bands had trouble replicating the recording on live performances. We complain about how music is performed today but it wa also done to some extent back in those days as well.
@andyinoregon

I thought the instruments sounded exactly like the studio recording here. This was rare for the first 5 years of "The Midnight Special," when almost everyone played absolutely live.
I’m guessing the man with the double necked guitar is the master behind so many monster hits?
