Hoka Cielo Road vs. Adidas Takumi Sen 9 | Between 2 Shoes
Thomas and Robbe compare two of the best 10K shoes out there, the Hoka Cielo Road and Adidas Takumi Sen 9. This was a hard one- both are great shoes, but it just comes down to personal preference and what you're looking for in a speed shoe.

My pick is the elephant in the room-- The Topo Cyclone 2. As a forefoot striker it feels the most natural because of its flexable sole and wide toebox. The late stage toe rocker also gives you that extra spring for someone like myself who only uses the the front part of the sole to propell myself foward. For me it works as a daily trainer as well as a 5 or 10k racer. Topo makes some of the best and most comfortable uppers among the other brands and the Cyclone 2 is no exception. The Ortholite sockliner gives you just enough mild support in the arch where it doesn't seem like a distraction and your ankle feels well supported.

Great shoe! Definitely in the conversation with these two, I think we mentioned it in the Cielo Road review
I agree with robbie..sen 9 all day 5 -10 k perfect fit..great looking...
Loving all the vids crew! I’ve had my Cielo Road for about 6 weeks now and it’s BRILLIANT for my track sessions as I build for the summer season here in Oz. Have compared with NB SC Elite & Trainer and it stacks up easily for pop and pace. Looking forward to getting my Cielo MD spike on soon… oh and it’s definitely an old school marathon racing flat feel with extra pop 🤙🏼🤙🏼
My new marathon shoe is the Rocket X2. I've only done a couple of shake out runs to break it in. I like it a lot. I might look at the Cielo.
From an old Reddit post about the adios pro 1, it seems Lightstrike Pro is some kind of TPEE (thermoplastic polyester elastomer). It’s a more specific material than just TPE, focused on energy return like PEBA but in a denser package and slightly less energy return (although the energy return figures I think can kind of be taken out of context depending on what kind of test is run, saucony’s Pwrrun HG energy return claims as one example). Anecdotally I find LS Pro to indeed feel more dense than PEBA, but the benefit is that it has a longer lifespan of optimal performance as a result.
I picked up my sen 9’s for $99 usd direct from adidas mid summer. After the initial break in I’m totally sold on the shoe for my interval runs. I laced them up this morning and admired the upper construction.

Hard to beat the performance to price ratio at $99
First Like from 🇪🇸. A good comparison. My vote goes to the Adidas takumi sen 9. A nice monday for everyone.
You guys nailed the Takumi Sen 9..a Dagger! Man I bought these in Tokyo, all white, beautiful looking shoe. Even my kids love it 😄. Yes snappy, a little dense, but honestly when you don't run in it, you miss it 💙. I now love the upper better than any other of my shoes, and the midsole is perfect. Maybe 10 miles is the max, but maybe not, because once you get used to it on your feet.... Other shoes are just not running shoes...a Porsche if you will...😊

Right on!
Asics Magic Speed 3 vs Adidas Takumi Sen 9
Which one of these would be the best for track intervals and repeats?
Having tried the Cielo Road on in the store (but not buying them…yet), it seems to me like it compares more closely to the Adios 8 than the Takumi Sen 8/9. I mean, aside from the drop. But purpose, versatility, feel, etc., sure.
The sen 9s are too narrow for my feet and i love hoka shoes so cielo road it would be for me.....I absolutely adore the X2 set a 17:33 5k PB & 36:36 10k PB times in them so can't wait to try out the cielo road
$180 retail for the TS9, but there's zero reason to pay that when adidas runs so many random 30% off deals. I got mine from Premium Outlets online for just over $90. Hokas seldom, if ever, come down so substantially in price.

@@DarkPa1adin Yup! In June-July, that outlet had the Takumi Sen 9 for $90-ish and the Adios Pro 3 for $120-ish. Absolute steals.

Yeah the deals you can get on the Sen are crazy
Lightstrike pro is TPU
Hi Robbie, I have a suggestion for eoy content. I think 2020 E Speed was your shoe of the year. Then you have 2021 2022 2023. What makes 2021 beats 2020 and 2022 beats 2021 and so on :) Cheers
It's almost as of Hoka needed to ditch EVA a long time ago 🤔
Sen 9 is more specialized. Cielo Rd if you're trying to save money have two shoes in one.

Exactly
I thought it was proven that Lightstrike Pro is a form of TPE foam

Came here to say this. It’s a TPEE foam.
