Great video. Took me forever, but I got it done thanks to you. The instructions that come in the box are very poor so this video was a must. You should put a link to here on those paper instructions.

There are a lot of errors in either: This video or the Lange Originals instructions. 1. The instructions say that the 2nd (strap) pulley needs to be mounted 1/2" left of center. In the video, he says to mount the pulley 1" left of center. In reality the pulley needs to be mounted 1.5"-2" left of center. 2. The so called 'Smart Hook', the instructions say that the RED hook is for TJ 1997-2007 only, the BLACK hook is for the YJ 1987-1995 and JK 2007-Present. The video is incorrect, the instructions are correct, in this case. 3. The instructions say to use the 2nd bolt hole in the top for the 2 door Jeeps and the 1st bolt hole for the 4 doors. You HAVE TO use the 1st hole for the 2 doors too!! Otherwise the center of gravity will be way off, and the top will lift on an extreme and unsafe angle. 4. I found that the 34" measurement, between the pulleys worked well, for me. Others have had to spread the pulleys mounting apart to 37+ inches, for their application. Also: ditch the 'wood screws' that are used to mount the pulleys into the wall and ceiling. They are essentially just drywall screws and not strong enough, in my opinion. Get yourself some 2" small diameter lags for much better strength and security. You should also ditch the small nuts, used for the cable clamps. Get yourself some nylok nuts or at least use some form of loctite on these tiny little bolts. My package came with 6 cable clamps, not 4, I used them all, 3 per cable. Finally, I wish that Lange would include a few more feet of cable. This would make a wider variety of installations possible, and allow for more of the cable to wrap around the pulley. For my application the cable JUST BARELY reached, and I began lifting right on the cable's loops, with no extra wrap/windings. Lange could make this product much better with these upgrades. It would cost approximately $10 more per unit, and those are hardware store, retail prices.

I end up using offset of 3/4 inch between the first and second pulley. Your video says 1" offset. The instruction that came out with the package says 1/2" offset. Reason I used 3/4" is to match the grpves of the double pulley which is 3/4". Another change I did is the mounting the crank assembly upside down versus your instructions. This is just to make the rotation clockwise when lifting the roof. Is there a concern mounting the upside down? Thanks.

This is by far an example of a company that doesn’t give a crap about its customers. I have 3 masters degrees and can’t figure out the installation instructions, which vary from the video to the written instructions. The written instructions are probably the worst I have ever seen. When you say one pulley is onset left what do you mean? Left of what? Which direction should I be facing? This is like a spotter telling a Jeep driver to turn left or right versus “driver or passenger.” Make it clear. I love it when the guy in the video says to pull the cable up to the black tape he placed on the cable when the tape is blue and one foot in front of his eyeballs! The wrench I received has 3 spools plus the gear, not 2 spools like the video and instruction manual, although you can’t tell anything from the manual. I don’t want to have to call you for help. I want you to take pride in you product. I suggest not selling anything until you redo your manual and make a video under 10” long. Spray paint the demo winch white so you can see what is being done and take video angles which are not obscured by gloved hands. I’ve spent 3 weekends on this product and I’ll be ripping it out of my garage and returning it.

Should have mounted your pulleys on top of the rafters, would be much stronger don't you think.

most cases you would have finishing on top or below rafters, so you would need to fix from below anyway

It seems to me that I must disconnect and left my top before the lift to install the elevator bolts, then remove them before securing the top back on the jeep. Its a heavy top for just one person to lift to be able to install or remove these bolts. Any suggestions?

I'm a few years late, I'm installing mine today. I'm thinking that once you put the elevator bolts on, they stay on. I'm pretty sure the top will still be secure with the other 6 bolts that keep it on. What did you come up with?

Why would they design a pulley where you have to remove the wheels/spring clips to screw it down? When I see simple, stupid decisions like this, it steers me away to a different product, say one with 1/2" more flange to screw the pulley down so you dont have to remove the pulley wheels. It really makes you wonder where else they skipped spending the extra 10 minutes to design something correctly.
