    To be fair, history has shown that England is pretty good at this whole "colonialism" business. It took a world war or two to get them to let go of most of the empire. The U.S. had a lot of help from France (who were always up for fucking with the English) and an ocean of distance when we broke free. Even for such a dominant naval power, oceans are big. We just needed to make things too expensive to be worthwhile anyway. By comparison, Ireland was in their backyard.

    I find it darkly humourous How similar your situation was to our situation in India. Lol, even the reasons that they gave for starving you guys when it would have been perfectly possible to keep you guys well fed were the same ones that they gave when they starved different parts of India “We are civilizing them” “ they are lazy and stupid by nature, maybe a little starvation will make them smarter” and other nonsense. Lol

    @@MegaGun2000 There was no intentional starvation. However it is true that some, like Sir Charles Edward Trevelyan, 1st Baronet viewed the Irish in such a manner as you suggest. Rather the British could not be bothered to pay for grain and wedded themselves to a free-market doctrine for God only knows what reason. That and incentivising evictions multiplied by a landlord clause which exempted a vast amount of landed peasantry and thus forcing them off the land. Soup Kitchens in contrast cost less than public works and worked. Nevertheless a lot of the charity was provided by the English themselves.

    It might be a strange thing to say, but countries with generic focus tree are a prime target of civil war factory exploit. Make sure you have two provinces. Finish first industrial focus that doesn't give factories, then pursue causing civil war and cheese it with either leaving AI with only artillery template or no units. Encircle them on their only victory point... and just wait for them to do their focuses. Bam, you have exploited generic focus tree(which already has more factories and building slots then New Zealand) twice.

    Hey Stakuyi. You can actually have even more, all important, stats by creating a front line and gaining the planning bonus. I usually take a general and give him a area defence order in a nuetral country and a field marshall that has a front line and attack order. This gives you both planning bonus and you remain in control of your units. Planning bonus with grand battle plan is 60% stat modifier which is pretty strong.

  • @Nerdnumberone

    @Nerdnumberone

    Yeah. Just because it didn't do a lot historically doesn't mean there aren't some interesting things it could have done that are no less unusual than some of the paths for other nations. I wonder if they are worried that giving the minor nation AIs more options in an ahistoric run would be too wild (actually, I'm not sure how those AI work to begin with). Possible focus tree paths: - Unifying Ireland - Conquering Britain out in revenge for... well, a lot of things. - Reuniting with Britain. You could always do something about going commie of fascist. Maybe reestablish an Irish monarch?

    Ireland is in a good place to make the war interesting for anyone. If they go Axis they can stab the UK in the back and not decimate sure but sap and distract allied... everything. If Ireland goes Allied then it frees up some British reserves and gives allies more places to move troops and dock ships let alone if you ever deploy men. If they go communist no idea what then, but it's amusing enough to be worth it. Obvs they're weak in base game, which is sorta realistic for the manpower and arms (Some Americans, read: Redditors, have a distorted view of how strong, united and populated Ireland was) and f's they gave about dying on frontlines for another country but HOI4 is strong at alt history. There are mods to make their focus tree unique and there's also a pretty cool looking Ireland unit graphic mod.

  • @TheArklyte

    @TheArklyte

    Idk, I'd just be happy with ability to: 1)get northern Ireland back in return for joining Allies and participating(in the video Ireland controls a quarter of Europe, but not northern Ireland); 2)same wish as for other Commonwealth and Allied nations - ability to get US/UK investments, indian volunteers and easier access to Allied research bonuses.

    Field hospital lowers the war support loss for losing men which is super good if you lack good war support. It also at 3/4 often times my troops almost never end up losing trained status and some times can end up getting skull ranks thanks to the -xp loss. 2 vs 3-5 it's clear which ones are flat out better. Due to not seeing this bonus right away people sleep on it. Personally I think it's 100% worth it for anyone you know will take losses like France or Russia, France can't afford the loss in war support and Russia will lose a ton of battles by default, making it hard to bounce back or even just find a line to hold. Even Germany tends to suffer lack of man power after a time, Italy I never had issues with man power.

    ww2 or "the emergency" as it was called here still had an impact on the country despite staying out at one point the north strand an area in the inner city of dublin was bombed by the germans officials they said they made a mistake thinking it was britian but some think it was on purpose either to force Ireland to stay out of the war or even force Ireland into the war as it irelands army is quite small and focused on defence only so an invasion would have allowed the germans to flank britian and there was a plan to invade called operation green or case green also britian at one point offered the north of Ireland back to us in exchanged for joining the war but the government refused believing britian wouldn't be able to honor it given the opposition of the unionists to Irish rule and probably thinking britian was just lying to get us to join on the other side the British at one point threaten to invade despite Ireland being natural they were leaning towards the allies handing over german pilots that landed to the allies and letting allied ones go they also gave weather reports to the allies which helped with d day and letting them use Irish air space despite that Éamon de Valera actually offered his condolence after hilters death was announced and we had to ration our economy for years after the war britian was mad we didn't join and our economy suffered for it also we didn't join the UN till 1955 because part of the deal with it when it was set up in the closing days of the war was you had to declare war on germany and unlike say turkey and others who did in the last year we never did my two great great uncles fought in ww2 one was in the forgotten army in burma and the other was in the RAF over maylasia and was shot down by the japaness and take as a POW and disappeared for 20 years after he came home my grandad only bumping into again in a pub in London during the 1966 world cup
