The reason why the french guarantee is so random is because it is not based on an event. The world tension just got high that the ai wants to guarantee Yugoslavia. Because the early game pp gain for France is extremely low, they could have run out of it at times.

In my game in early/mid December, Romania starts getting closer to Germany(possibly because of the looming menace to the north). I think this is also part of why. Wait, France continued to guarantee them in my game though but my Romania was MUCH more(60%) Democratic than Bitt3r's

The Reinforce Old Alliances focus tells the British and French AI to protect Yugoslavia, and the reason France doesn't guarantee you at the same time as Britain is because they are set to ignore Yugoslavia when they do the Buy Time focus, additionally when the Munich event fires and the Czechs are abandoned the French AI gets an additional reminder to ignore Yugoslavia.

You want to improve relations with the French to keep your guarantee while justifying on Romania. That *should* stop them from removing their guarantee on you. :)

I did just read in another comment that the French PP might be running out. That too, would cause the guarantee to drop. I forgot about that.

I just tested it. The guarantee drops regardless of your relations (7 sep 1938), so I expect as mentioned, they've run out of PP or something. -edit. And it came back a day later... Weird.

i love it when you use "heroes will fall" in these videos. Idk why but It just fits perfectly

So posting cause I used this guide to help with this myself with NSB, but had to adjust some things so figured I would share. The most important thing for me was the actions of the Romanian AI, who will put ALOT of units on the border specifically with you and Transylvania when released. I don't understand why they do this, but they completely ignore Bulgaria as a result. So I invited Bulgaria into the war instead of Transylvania, and basically took most of the capital and nearby area without any resistance. Eventually the troops on the border with you and Transylvania should thin out, and you can call in Transylvania and do what you see in the video. Mechanically, just remember supply, might want to invest in trucks but I didn't for reasons I will explain. I did have to do a little railway construction however, as the only Yugo-Romania border rail line is way off in Transylvania. An additional little thing I found, if you have an issue with France removing their guarantee, you can try and justify on Romania ASAP. Therefore when the French do give that guarantee you are almost ready to go to war. This was the reason I didn't have trucks, so it could be a harder fight, but it was that fight or no fight for me. Czechs will likely not do anything, I did not in my run see ANY of their troops in Romania, and I finished the war even before Hitler turned his eye to them.

it's pretty easy. flip to facism, get shock troops 7-2 14-4, justify on both at the same time, slowly take them out, use a navel invasion order or better yet, paradrop. build sufficient forts along soviet border. germans wont even bother you.

I've been scratching my head about their guarantee as well. From what others have told me, it's relates to their PP gain. So if they take a lot of -stab or -pp events, it goes badly

That’s so weird. I thought that the video would be on Romania. I didn’t even look at the flag on the video😂. But this was interesting though, that you used the smallest bit of Transylvania for this😂

Reinforce old alliances causes French and Brits to guarantee you even if you play with collaborator king Paul. That way you can gobble up all of the Balkans before 1940. Last time I played I got core states for Bulgaria and Hungary so it is preferable to wait until latter gets cores on Transylvania.

Please play as Oman and restore the Omani Empire. I would love to see someone do that.

If like me you're having trouble with the French guarantee in NSB i think i might know why now. Played this 5-6 times or so, and the guarantee seems to run out as the munich agreement happens (When germany annexes sudetenland) I justified my wargoal on Romania just as i started the focus "Axis investment" Following this guide, that way the french guarantee was still active when i declared on Romania. Hope that helps, otherwise, great guide!

You make it look so easy. The first time France never guaranteed me. The second time I took too long taking Romania and they joined the Axis mid war...

Thank you for the guide. France guaranted me end of June1939, but hungary didnt take the focus, so all of romania got to my puppet. So maybe you have the same luck as me. I also got my realitions with france on 100+ Pressure.

Experienced something very odd with regards to getting that French guarantee. In my attempt following this guide, the French never guaranteed me. I couldn't figure out why, and was thinking if there was anything at all different to how I was playing to you, and figured I would try withdrawing my Japanese attaché. Didn't think it would make a difference as the connection isn't obvious, but shortly after withdrawing the French finally sent the guarantee!

Another challenge might be to go down the Yugoslavia focus tree but not unite all your puppets, and see how far you get

I did this run before they patched coring all your non-yugo puppets, so got all of the balkans plus Germany and Italy as core states. Regarding the guarantees in my games it seemed France and the UK would be more likely to guarantee you if their opinion of you is above a certain amount (30 or 40 I think).

would it be possible to add the time at when the battle music is played? Would be awesome :)

More division in yugoslavia you can have more factories and you would get them after you annex them

This guide needs an update, I feel. After NSB, it feels like that you can't even take Bulgaria without France dropping their guarantee. And you cant force them to give it back to you. And yes, I tried those steps in the vid 20 times, always to start ww2 cause I dont get the french guarantee back

I try it , it was really fun but i didn't got it with my first try maybe next time

So, a year later and I'm trying this out. For those who have not and wanting to, this guide will no longer work with Peter's Pride. The focus says that it will make Peter the leader of the unaligned / Democratic party but when the focus finishes some random generic leader is put in the place. This will happen regardless of whether you flip Democratic before or after the focus. You also can not do this doing the path of signing Tripartite Act.

@Bitt3rSteel You wanted to know why the Bosnian divisions do not form - that focus calls for the template "Bosnian Division" whereas all the other similar focuses - including "Divide Bosnia" all call for the "Yugoslavian Division" template. Just a simple error anyone could fix - just not anyone from Paradox. I made a recent post to the HoI4 forums as well as a bug report so hopefully they'll fix it. I even cheekily sent them a copy of the edited focus tree as well as a screenshot confirming that the edit works! I'll probably end up being put on "Probation!".

Hi, dont you think it would be good idea not to make all divisions 7/2? Imo if you realy want atack with inf + art you can make 4/6 divisions for offense and rest can be infx10. This way you have much lower industry costs and still you can punch a in strategic province. For the strategy for dracula's revenge personaly i would atack Hungary after Bulgaria to streatch romanians forces even more.

Strange, I was only a few days later than you, but I didn't have Bulgarian Army Restrictions on my puppet.

I actually just completed this one on New Year’s Eve! What I did was support the nationalists, and once I won the civil war, I justified and invaded the Netherlands. The trick was to navally invade them through the north rather than the south, because similarly to Bitter’s “Finland winter war video” they will defend the ports closest to your country. Once I rolled through them I annexed them and puppetted the Dutch East indeas. Using the newly gained factories from the Dutch and my puppets manpower I joined the axis and pumped out as many army units as possible until ww2 kicked off. Now I might have just gotten lucky, but if you invade and control, enough of the western side of Belgium before they capitulate, then when they capitulate, you will gain control of the whole country. This means that the entire “German front” into France will actually be controlled by you, Spain, and not Germany winning you the achievement when Paris is taken. Obviously do as much pushing as you can with your own troops, but the German troops at that point will practically do it for you! Good luck!

I tried this without uniting the country and i ended the war by invading the uk. I had the most score but germany took romania and left like the rest of the world for me. I can never understand how the ai always know how to ruin my achievements.

I think it would be nice to join Axis and wait for Bulgaria to get its Greek territories before you reintegrate all the puppets. That way you get those Greek cores as well.

Why do you not use the Field Marshall frontline? Doesn't this require you to constantly change the front lines of your different generals?

Field marshal lines work if you have a lot of identical divisions and you want to distribute them evenly but if you want to concentrate some troops to spesific parts of the front lines, it's better to use general level lines instead.

Fun thing about Yugoslavia is that you can get a 1944 fighter as early as 1940 if you time your focuses right. Those things SHRED German and Soviet air force.

Be sad and cry :( sadly, it depends on France not getting fucked by bad events

so every time it gets over 40 tension you get western betrayal and the french wont gurantee you anymore

What other sort of former nations can you reform?

I decided to play a non historical non aligned yugo game and somehow got peters pride, easily one of my best games. Still can't break Belgium as Germany though.

I'm on my 4th try today. You lose the guarentee after Demand Sudetenland. France will Abanden you again. Even if you play very safe and dont go over 10% generatated tension you still lose the guarentee, and because france doesnt have any pp because of Disjointed Gov. They wont guarentee you, till they got enough pp. Wich doesnt happen very often.

Should have satellited czechoslovakia and puppeted greece too because of their navy

Death or Dishonor (Balkan DLC) and La Resistance are the best focus DLCs. But Together to victory and Waking the tiger bring nice features too.

You can still play with vanilla HOI. You don't actually need the DLC. In fact, it makes the game a lot easier to learn without the extra content. I do recommend all the DLC for the fullest experience though.

I would say that TfV is pretty much needed because of how it reworks the puppet system. Other than that I do recomend all the dlcs but they're not as "mandatory" as the TfV is. My personal favourite is Waking the Tiger because I really like to play as PRC or Qing China and also like the new focus trees for Germany and Japan.

Update pls. France's guarantee never came back :( Edit: nevermind, I got it. It's just kinda RNG whether France's guarantee stays. I didn't get Peter's pride cause it bugged out for me. I changed to democracy and did the focus but I didn't get Peter II as country leader, weird.

I think rushing the focus Local militias, allied investments and axis investments is a better way to do this now since I at least had to attack Romania later than Bittersteel. This way you can easily take them out with superior industry. Also spam divisions early to save the manpower. Taking a long time killing Bulgaria isn't a big deal and actually helps you since they get rid of the Army restrictions during the war so your puppet Bulgaria will give you some troops, also your general(s) will get xp too. To break the Romanians easily just rush the supply hubs and you can probably battle plan the rest, I managed to have 24 9/1s in the war against Romania so it was a breeze. Just use your own units to attack on one side and the trash puppet units to hold the line and occasionally support attacks. Hope this helps!

I just can't break the romanian lines, I did everything you did, same equipment and same templates but they will just put 5 infantry divisions in mountains and rivers and I can't break them

There is a better way to by pass the french guarantie you justfie on grece as its guaratied by romania and dont call in arms macedonia and bulgaria so you will end up getting grece and romania without having to wait on french ia to be smart

No, Romania is guaranteeing Yugo independence, so they will not help Greece. Doesn't go away untill Romania does pro axis government, but that also cancels the Greece guarantee

I tried this achievement and failed but i found out if you satelite moldova or ukrain when finishing romania you get cores on all of ukrain

Is there no way around the question of France? Or at least is there a way to tell if France will ever guarantee you? I have already tried twice and in both cases I have reached the capitulation of France without ever being guaranteed.

I suppose you could, Greece can be taken by joining axis and defeating the UK with a cheeky paradrop on a port. Then help kill Russia and puppet them for MP and Mils. And fight the Axis as a final boss. I believe BoB is needed for the new Yugo tree

I puppet Czechoslovakia through the gained Hungarian Land you take and that way you have a Claim/Core with the rest of Former Czechoslovakia

An Ai nation will issue one when a whole host of factors are met, they can retract them but generally it's uncommon Wt, 'perceived threat' (which on historical is regular ordinary dislike of Germany) and -crucially for France- availability of PP As you'll know, France is a touch... not good for political power, further than that the Ai isn't great at handling events such as 'communism on the rise' etc which will lower their stability and thus pp, for anyone being all min'maxy for this, check the french if they are on 'early mob' after 30 days from start of campaign, if so it means they avoided the first nasty communism event which reduces stab also improve relations and try to keep it positive 1 at least when wt hits 25, Ai democratic nations can only revoke guarantee if opinion is less than 0 (in theory), trading exclusively with the french helps a little too

Splitting Dalmatia and Croatia works better cause more free factories and a cool new nation

what about Greece? can we gain cores on them too?

Nope. France would be set to be less likely to guarantee you if Britain surrendered Sudetenland and France follows Britain
