Hogs, ’Huskers to Big 12 makes sense to Nebraska writer ... and he's right

Спорт

Nebraska, Arkansas get little respect in their current conferences but they probably won't be making changes despite the noise these days.

@Diane Newman You probably don't understand, but here I go. When the t.v. contract is up, Texas and Oklahoma if not paid well, they are leaving. You also tend to forget that Oklahoma #1 Arch Rival is Texas, only Nebraska considered OU as it's #1 Arch Rival. The OU game with Nebraska was always important because it was a conference game both in the Big 8 and Big 12. With Texas in the Big 12 the game between UT & OU has become much more important. Texas is the one with the Big t.v. Markets of Dallas & Houston and entire state of Texas. OU t.v market is Tulsa & OKC, which are small t.v. markets like the entire state of Nebraska, including Omaha & Lincoln. Texas, as long as they are in the Big 12, will never allow Nebraska back in, simply they will not share money. Also, I hope you are aware that Nebraska was not competitive with Texas, of the past 10 meetings, Texas won 9 and Nebraska only won one 1 game. Last but not least, who will vote you back in, honestly you will only get votes from K-State, KU, and Iowa State. None of the Texas or Oklahoma schools will vote you back in. Texas A&M is having a difficult time in the SEC, however they will never come back to the Big 12, just like Missouri and Colorado. Instead of bolting like you did, you should have fought Texas & Oklahoma, but you left and now you have did nothing in 9 years in the Big 10, which the face of the Big 10 is still Ohio State & Michigan.

Sure, we're like a fish out of water as our geographic and historic rivalries are all in the ACC, etc., but the Big 12 was the only conference that would have us. THAT SAID, I would love it if Nebraska joined the Big 12. WVU has played Nebraska only once (a 31-0 loss about thirty years ago). Even though Nebraska has historically had much more success than WVU, I see us as similar programs nowadays as we're both in unnatural positions, struggling to get serious traction. Nebraska is dying in the Big Ten. The recruits are not what they were. Also, Nebraska gets a much easier division than Maryland and Rutgers have, yet still do not have what it takes to make one of the 30+ bowl games.

Arkansas was 4-20 in the last 2 years and has the smallest TV market in the SEC. So when the SEC went to a 10 game SEC schedule Arkansas was going to get Florida or Georgia regardless. LSU plays Florida every year. Bama has UGA ontheir schedule and UGA has Auburn every year and played UGA played LSU twice in the last 2 seasons. Arkansas needed a big name team for TV ratings because their rating would be terrible vs. Vandy or USCe. Arkansas can play their games or leave. I guess Arkansas should get a pass and play Vandy & South Carolina? Lol. Truth is that Arkansas joined the SEC and thought they were SEC caliber. They aren't. Arkansas has been in the SEC for 30 years and has never won the SEC Football Title. As a matter of fact, in the 30 years since Arkansas joined the SEC the only SEC teams who have won the Football Title are the long term traditional SEC "Big 6" teams (Bama, LSU, Auburn, UGA, Florida, Tennessee). No expansion team has won it and no other SEC team has won it. Arkansas can't compete with LSU, Bama, or Auburn in the SEC West. A&M is in the same boat. A&M's record vs. LSU & Bama since joining the SEC is a combined 2-15. The SEC is a tough neighborhood and Arkie just can't compete.

I agree. As an Ohio State fan I look back upon taking in Nebraska as a kind of eye opener. Nebraska had lots of success in a conference where they could beat up on 8 out of 10 opponents, so they thought they'd join the Big-10, which everyone loves to call overrated, and beat up on everyone there. Didn't work because the bottom of the Big-10 conference is better than any other bottom of the conference anywhere else. Not even close, in fact, to the point where Nebraska is the bottom of the bottom half the Big-10 right now, and looking for a scapegoat. So, along comes a crippling virus that has gone largely unaddressed by the poor leadership in Washington, leaving us clear into the football season with soaring death tallies, and Nebraska is still out of step, not even acknowledging that. They want to go back to a conference that lets them beat up on the bottom half of the conference. To which I say, yeah. Do that. It's a better fit. Then the Big Ten would be free to pick up a real powerhouse to take the place of the pretend powerhouse, and not have to listen to the pathetic whining of a team unable to come to terms with a very real and deadly virus, like little children who don't want to eat their vegetables. The choice is simple. Up your game and up your maturity, or bail at the first sign of trouble, going back to easy life in the Big 12

In my opinion one of the events that most likely led to Arkansas leaving was when SMU was put on the death penalty meaning they had no football operations for 7 years. The Big 12 as we know it had been on the table for at least 5 years before it became a reality. I thought that when Nebraska left for the Big 10 if was a big mistake. Right after they left Colorado left for the PAC 12. Later joined by Utah. So for me It would be a good thing if Nebraska rejoins the Big 12

They've had a great history and won as many NC's as the Big 10 COMBINED in the last 50 years. Every top program has a down time. What if the SEC had kicked Alabama out for something like this in 2006 when they went 6-7 and were consistently mediocre? Imagine how much they'd regret that. I know Nebraska might not come back to being great or even good, but no one thought Alabama was coming back either. It would be stupid for the Big 10 to kick Nebraska out now. The B1G is most physical league across the board.right now Nebraska looks to finish no higher than fourth in B1G west. I don’t see them finishing ahead of wisc, MN or IowA in that division. That division suddenly is catching up to the fabled East, Reason Nebraska about to kicked is they’re only school in B1G not pulling their academic Weight. In B1G that’s very important they regard themselves an academic conference formost and to join you need be a research institution. If Rutgers can pull its weight so can you Nebraska. Or do they need bring university Chicago back into conference. One thing to get kicked out of a conference where would you go? Big 12 is full pac12 is full sec is full. Whatever team we find from whatever conference would be your future destination. Probably be ACC since Notre dame and B1G appears to be talks for future. The Irish are already in B1G in hockey. Only a matter of time before Notre dame and Texas are B1G what was that about Recruiting Texas Iowa Minnesota Ohio State Michigan have no trouble recruiting Texas your problem is fcs powerhouse North Dakota State our recruiting you in your back yard and surrounding borders. Their pitch is straightforward too want to join a program built on a tradition of success. Where last few fbs teams to fall include @Kansas State, @IowA all fell in their home stadiums. That year Iowa beat Ohio State 45-10 and k state won the big12 they tried scheduling Nebraska they wouldn’t put them on schedule. Probably for a good reason. Most people don't even have cable anymore. The world has moved on, even if bitter NU fans have not. All that said, the real issue here is NU is completely unable to generate the portion of the revenue that isn't shared. You guys quibble over 7 million here or there for the shared 55.6 million. OU brought in 95.9 million, from football alone. So whatever the 7 million. What matters is winning, and selling your team nationally. People in SEC, ACC and Big Ten country have all been through West Virginia before. There is GOOD REASON they are not in the ACC, SEC or the Big Ten. There will be NO TRADES. NOT EVER.

here's the thing: West Va wants to be here. NU did not. So they voted with their feet and chased the $$. let's face it: NU fans don't want to rejoin the big XII. they're just tired of being irrelevant and think they can reclaim past glory. looks a lot like the 'cheating ex' who left, sought the divorce, but now wants 'back'?

You don't just "trade" a team to another conference...it's a two-way street. Nobody else wanted West Virginia, certainly not the blue-blood, prim-and-proper ACC. Hell, even the SEC didn't want West Virginia!

How about just bringing back the original big 8. I miss the Nebraska Oklahoma game the day after thanksgiving. Sick of these oversized conferences and I know it’s all about the $$$$$ then just schedule 4 non conference games and go back to a 11 game schedule. Conference champion should be crowned during the regular season.

Nebraska , Arkansas, BYU, U of South Florida and Central Florida would good fit for the Big 12 ... they just need one more team to make it even amount of teams ( Utah maybe) (Cincinnati) I would like to see more teams from east coast but just can't see who that could be?

I don't see Texas leaving the Big 12 , but you do have Texas blood in you and you are in love with your all male Cheerleaders .... so, I will take your word on what is or isn't happening in the Good ole Boys State of Texas... being an Aggie you must have loved watching the Mountaineers beat the Longer horns at home two years ago with Texas Officials making WVU score twice and complete two 2-pt conversions with hardly any time on the clock . He beating a blue blood is nice , beating a cheating blue blood at home, is at another level of fun... you know it might be good for Texas to join the SEC west to never be heard of again....

Only if they play OU and Texas every year! I lived in Dallas during the Big 12 era. Go into sporting goods stores they only had the south division items on display and in stock! Don"t forget Big 12 was formed to defang NU. Stuck in north division and by not playing Texas, Texas A& M and OU every year hurt recruiting! If anything form a new Big 8! I thought if anything Big 12 should have added LSU and Arkansas. Kansas and Iowa not big enough for 2 major division 1 programs and only OSU if they move to Tulsa. Actually wish NU would just move their mens basketball to UNO. Kstate mens basketball to WSU and become the shockers purple and gold. ISU same with Drake in Des Moine. Arkansas move mens basketball to UALR. Smaller colleges need to increase athletic budgets to match Texas, Oregon, Ohio states.

I don't think it would be good for Nebraska to leave because they are a better geographical fit in the big ten. Nebraska is in the Midwest where most of the big ten schools are. In the big 12 there are teams from the south and southwest which would make for painful travel for them.

I would love to see Arkansas join the Big 12 with Nebraska. The SEC took away our first game ever with Notre Dame. Then they slammed us by adding GEORGIA and FLORIDA to our already toughest schedule in the country. So now we have Alabama, LSU, Florida, Auburn, Georgia, and our easy games are Tennessee, Mississippi, MSU, and Missouri. They gave Ole Miss Vandy and Kentucky. Give me a break! The SEC could care less about us.

Auburn played that exact schedule plus Oregon last year. Quit whining or get out . You're right that the 2 teams added was biased towards uga and bama...but that's been going on since Saban joined the league. If you cant recruit in the sec with texas as your neighbor and those incredible facilities ( seriously they are 1st class) what's the problem?

This will never happen but it would be best for College football if Arkansas, Nebraska, Texas A&M, and even Mizzou were in the Big 12 nd WVU went to the ACC or something like that. There is no way this would happen but it would make the most sense. A&M and Nebraska really should be in conferences with Texas and OU. WE miss out on some great rivalries without them in the same conference. But also Texas and Arky had a big rivalry also. And you do have a KU vs. Mizzou rivalry if that matters. Again this will never happen. There would have to be a new conference with lot's of $$ or a restructuring by the NCAA itself for it to happen. CFB is too much about $$$. I like it less and less as the years go by.
