Wow I think I like it better than the Nightmare Before Christmas deck that I already have. I agree with you there is no way I could be on board with the suit swap. Candles🕯will still be fire 🔥 and potions 🧪 water 💧. That is just so bazar to me 🤯😵‍💫 that any deck author would switch those two elements.

I'm loving these cards, to-niIight. Wonder why the main character had less cards than the 2 other side characters, like the sister and the love interest. Omri Katz WAS the lead on Eerie IndianNAaa. Wonder whatever happened to him

The potions/fire, candles/water was a typo. Candles are fire and potions water. You can see this when you read the card descriptions.

Yes, they keep the traditional card meanings, but they state the change of the suit to elements correspondence in more than one place. That's not a typo. A typo is "there" instead of "their" or something like that. It could still have been a mistake, perhaps the person hired to write the copy isn't familiar with Tarot and got things seriously confused, but that's a pretty serious mistake that should have been caught by an editor, or someone, before the deck went to print. And if it was a mistake, they should correct it in future printings and I haven't heard anything saying they intend to make changes. If they don't announce that it was an error and change it in future printings, then we have to take it at face value as the suit/element switch was intentional.

I forgot I preordered this. Still deciding if I want to open it or send it back. I’m leaning towards opening, so thanks for the review. I love all things witchy and Halloween and I use the Halloween Tarot year round. Sounds like the book is useless, but that’s fine. I like the devil card. A agree that potions are cups are water and candles are wands are fire. This seems better balanced than some of the the other pipish decks that they’ve been churning out. I look forward to seeing the deck in action.

Thank you for sharing. I have to be honest I was highly disappointed. As a life long hocus pocus fan I had to get it but I was let down. It’s seems like they copy pasted some from the nmbc deck. I also didn’t like how they made the teacher who was in the movie for less than 5 mins they made her the queen of potions. I love the star, the transformation card and how they did most of the major arcana. But I am not going to change the meaning. I don’t like how candles are water and how they changed the elements and I totally agree of the devil card. I will still use the meaning of the original. But I will say this I talked to Minerva one of the creators she had a stroke during the making of it and had to pull out so they had to get another writer to finish the book. Thanks for you review. A pip deck means that the minors are NOT fully illustrated. They are more like what you'd see in a deck of playing cards. So, the seven of cups, say, will just have seven cups on it. The four of pentacles will just have four pentacles on it. Etc. There's no scene on the card like you'll see with decks done in the RWS system. Many readers won't read with pip decks at all. I prefer fully illustrated decks but I can and do read with pip decks occasionally. I don't recommend pip decks for beginners unless you're trying to learn the Marseilles system, as it is a pip deck by nature. Having a fully illustrated deck that accurately represents your meanings for the cards can be really helpful for those beginning their Tarot journey.

You are not alone in that opinion. Insight Editions keeps churning out these decks and I don't feel like they are putting the effort into them that they could and should.

The Empress is Jenny Dennison. Lightning is the suit of swords.
